THINGS TO COME?

On Friday, James Fryer had a post about the SOCTUS ruling, or lack there-of where they let stand the CA State Appellate Court ruling of November, 2007, that says the following about the state medical marijuana laws:

“…The state appellate court decision from November 28, 2007, ruled that “it is not the job of the local police to enforce the federal drug laws.”…”

My question:  Will smart defense attorneys be able to take that one little statement and run with it?  I’m betting they will be able to do so. I’ve very quietly been on the side of the “legalize it” crowd since they started clamoring for legalization.

In an era of “recession” and the need to expand taxes, I’m beginning to wonder if we aren’t reaching the beginning of the end of draconian substance laws.

Why?

How do you pay for all these “bail-outs” and not raise taxes? Simple.  You legalize a few previously “illegal” substances and tax the heck out of it.

Provide a “grace” period for drug dealers of all persuasions to report their “earnings” over a period of so many years.

They are taxed, fined, and then given a pat on the head for being good little citizens.

Stop hyperventilating.

How do you think Joe Kennedy made his fortune?

He ran illegal beverages into New England during Prohibition.

THE MORALITY OF THE SITUATION

I am not going to discuss the morality of the situation and drug usage. The past couple of years I’ve learned no matter  how much you teach kids, no matter what kind of a home a kid comes from, they’re going to do what they want to do.

I just don’t think “Just Say No” does one bit of good.  Neither do lectures on morality.  Neither does a parent’s lecture on smoking.

Unfortunately kids are going to do what the other kids do.

The only thing that is going to save them is for the parent to teach character and individuality. If a child learns this, they are less likely to give in to peer pressure.

Making something illegal creates an aura of the mysterious.

In 1919 a reporter once asked Wyatt Earp what he thought about the advent of Prohibition.

Earp’s response was that he feared a level of criminal activity the likes of which the nation had never before seen. Wyatt Earp’s theory:  If you cause certain things to become illegal, such as alcohol, you run the risk of increasing the public’s desire for that item.

So strongly did he believe this, the only time in his life that he did not vote Republican was in 1928 when he voted for Al Smith because of his anti-Prohibition platform.

Wyatt Earp was right.

THERE IS ANOTHER…LIBERAL

But wait – there is another liberal in the woodpile:  George Soros. We are so on our way to legalizing “drugs”.
