LET’S ANNOY ‘EM & PRAY FOR ‘EM!
I do not dislike people who claim to be atheists. Frankly, I think they are more dogmatic and have more “faith” in their lack of “faith” than most of us who claim to believe in a higher power. They don’t have the intellectual honesty to admit their very worship of their atheism is a religion in itself.
I don’t know about you, but I find the whole thing rather delicious. The practitioners of the Atheist Religion are not content just to not believe anything – be a normal agnostic. No, they must destroy anything that even slightly reeks of Christianity. They have no sense of humor, have massive chips on their scrawny little shoulders, and are always trying to make trouble. No wonder they feel persecuted, themselves.
Instead of acting like normal adults, they must have their little temper tantrums and set up their altars to nothingness, and force their lack of a religion, religion on everyone else, no matter how much we do not want it.
They have a bad attitude.
Even worse, it really doesn’t matter what goes on, what holiday it is, they are out to ruin the party. My grandfather Reidhead had a saying, “Just go have your own way and make everyone hate you.”
I think that describes our pathetic little atheists to a “T”.
Just pick up one of Austin Cline’s columns about atheism. I am ashamed to say I don’t spend as much time pontificating on my Christian faith as Cline does his atheistic religion. Cline wrote the following dribble:
“…Atheists are hated more than any other group in America. Surprised? Atheists know this very well, but a recent survey conducted by the University of Minnesota has provided new evidence of it. According to most of those surveyed, atheists fall below Muslims, gays, and every other minority group when it comes to “sharing their vision of American society.”…”
If nothing else proves an atheist practicing the religion of atheism had absolutely no grasp of what Christianity is, the above paragraph does it. Cline obviously does not comprehend that by our very nature, Christians are not ALLOWED to hate. The very practice of giving one’s life to Christ, surrendering to His love, precludes any form of hatred – not from someone who is truly a Christian.
In the Lord’s prayer we pray: “Forgive us our debts (trespasses, sins) as WE HAVE FORGIVEN those of others. God the Father forgives us as we forgive others. Therefore, we cannot hate.
Yea, I hate to burst that little atheist bubble, but we don’t hate you. We love you. We are praying for you. We want you to be happy and learn how to play well with others and love them the way you love yourself. You can’t do this by constantly looking to be offended.
Get over it. You’re not that important.
Forward Day by Day for December 10 has the perfect ending to this post:
“…Lord, teach me to give as you have given, ungrudgingly and without fear. Teach me to eagerly share with the needy the abundance you have given me. To those in need of love, let me show your love; to those in need of joy, your joy; to those who seek peace, your peace.
Teach me to give patience when patience is far from my mind. Teach me to be kind and merciful when those around me are not. Teach me your goodness, shining in the darkness. Teach me your humility, putting others before myself. Teach me discipline in all things, and teach me not to count the cost. Let me be faithful always to you.
Then shall love and joy and peace return to me, blessed by you and ready to be shared with all your children. As I share your gifts, Lord, you will fill me anew with your blessing that I may continue to share and share again….”
I think that’s what is so sad about someone who is a die-hard practitioner of the atheist religion. They don’t understand that Christ requires that we love one another, not hate.

I’m a bit confused. Do you really think this particular post is loving toward Cline and other atheists?
Hello – I’ve stumbled upon your blog and just have to say this:
Your grandfather’s saying has made me literally LOL. And you should know, I don’t LOL.
Yeah, pray for us! That will really help. This post is so absurd that I am not sure if it is meant to be a joke or if you are serious. If a joke, you got me. If serious, I’d suggest that you try to learn at least something about atheism before spouting off. There is no “atheist religion,” only people who are not persuaded by the theist’s claim.
Hi!!
I just wanted to say that I loved this column and that you did a fantastic job of exposing the Christian ignorance of Atheism and the hypocrisy of Christians who claim to spread the love of Jesus.
Your comment;
“They don’t have the intellectual honesty to admit their very worship of their atheism is a religion in itself.”
Illustrates so perfectly the fact that Christians have no idea of the meaning of Atheism or religion. That is a perfect example of why Christians cannot comprehend the old saying; If Atheism is a religion, then “bald” is a hair color.
You had me rolling on the floor laughing when you exposed the hypocrisy of some Christians with these gems;
“Yea, I hate to burst that little atheist bubble, but we don’t hate you. We love you.”
Or this;
“They have no sense of humor, have massive chips on their scrawny little shoulders, and are always trying to make trouble.”
Here’s another example of the Christian love and forgiveness;
“Instead of acting like normal adults, they must have their little temper tantrums and set up their altars to nothingness, and force their lack of a religion, religion on everyone else, no matter how much we do not want it.”
“They have a bad attitude.”
I’m surprised that you didn’t write; And they smell funny too.
Thank you for putting it so clearly how Christians claim love and forgiveness in one breath and then attack in the very same breath. And thank you again for showing how ignorant the Christians are of what Atheism is and what it stands for.
Again I must congratulate you on a great column, and rest assured this will be spread around the web forthwith as an example of the hypocrisy and ignorance of the Christian faith towards those who do not march in lockstep with them. Your column has done more for the cause of Atheism then any column written by an Atheist. Keep up the hilarious work, it was brilliant.
Merry Solstice and a Happy New Year to you!!!
“Frankly, I think they are more dogmatic and have more “faith” in their lack of “faith” than most of us who claim to believe in a higher power. They don’t have the intellectual honesty to admit their very worship of their atheism is a religion in itself.”
On a scale of 1-10, how dogmatic are you with regard to your non-worship of Zeus?
Do you consider your non-worshipping of Zeus a religion?
“Yea, I hate to burst that little atheist bubble, but we don’t hate you. We love you.”
That’s all fine and good. Personally, I completely understand the “hate the sin, love the sinner” mentality. It’s almost directly parallel to my own thoughts on Christianity.
Hate the evil institution of Christianity, yet love the Christians themselves.
- Conversational Atheist
“I do not dislike people who claim to be atheists.”
What about people who ARE atheists, rather than merely claiming to be?
“Frankly, I think they are more dogmatic and have more “faith” in their lack of “faith” than most of us who claim to believe in a higher power.”
Atheism has nothing to be dogmatic about. It has no dogma. Does it take faith on your part to not believe there is a 200 pound gorilla in your car? Does it take faith for you to reject that the sun is Ra riding his chariot across the sky? Methinks you are confused about what the word faith means.
“They don’t have the intellectual honesty to admit their very worship of their atheism is a religion in itself.”
What are the atheist holidays? What or who do they worship? Where? I think you don’t understand what the word worship means. What are the atheist texts? Who is the atheist prophet? For those questions we have answers for *actual* religions, but not for atheism. Maybe you should look up the word religion.
“The practitioners of the Atheist Religion are not content just to not believe anything – be a normal agnostic.”
You also don’t seem to know what agnostic means. Agnostic means one who does not claim KNOWLEDGE of gods. Atheist means one who does not hold a belief in gods. Knowledge… belief. Very different animals. It is possible to be one without being the other, but virtually all atheists are agnostic and vice versa. It’s a pop culture myth that agnostic is atheist lite.
“No, they must destroy anything that even slightly reeks of Christianity. They have no sense of humor, have massive chips on their scrawny little shoulders, and are always trying to make trouble. No wonder they feel persecuted, themselves.”
You’re building a straw man argument. You’ve invented a character in your mind of a noisy atheist and pretending that all of us are like that. Go to Wikipedia and look up logically fallacies. Imagine if I said “All Christians are homophobic racists who want to keep women as barefoot and pregnant house servants.” While it may be true that a few Christians meet those criteria, most do not. Note the use of the qualifier “few”. I say few because I’m not enough of a prick to confuse the bad few with the mostly harmless many. Instead of attacking an imaginary atheist, and putting words in their mouths for you to attack without fear… try something like “Christopher Hitchens said ‘blah blah blah’, and he’s wrong because of X, Y and Z.” THAT would be a cogent argument. THAT would be how ADULTS discuss and debate.
The bit about chips and “scrawny little” is childish. As for making trouble, I think the Xians have us beat with the Crusades and Inquisition. Should I hold you responsible for their actions?
“Instead of acting like normal adults, they must have their little temper tantrums and set up their altars to nothingness, and force their lack of a religion, religion on everyone else, no matter how much we do not want it.”
So you feel threatened by a group that is less than a tenth of the population? What power do we have? How many atheist senators have their been/are there? How many atheist mayors or governors? Supreme Court judges? Add them all up and you’d be talking about all of ten people. No, there is no forcing happening. If anyone is shoving their beliefs it is the Christians. Until our money says “in science we trust” and the “under God” part of the pledge is removed (restoring the pledge to it’s original wording), I don’t want to hear Xians whining about persecution. We don’t want to force our lack of beliefs, we want equal rights and equal treatment. We want our government to make decisions base on FACTS and reality rather than bronze age texts.
“Even worse, it really doesn’t matter what goes on, what holiday it is, they are out to ruin the party.”
Again with the strawman.
“I think that describes our pathetic little atheists to a “T”.”
Childish name calling and dismissiveness. Is that what Xianity has to offer? I’ll pass.
“If nothing else proves an atheist practicing the religion of atheism had absolutely no grasp of what Christianity is, the above paragraph does it. Cline obviously does not comprehend that by our very nature, Christians are not ALLOWED to hate. The very practice of giving one’s life to Christ, surrendering to His love, precludes any form of hatred – not from someone who is truly a Christian.”
Did you read this before you posted it? This is full of hate and ignorance. You don’t even use the terminology correctly. Xians not allowed to hate? Have you ever watched the show on TV called The News?
“In the Lord’s prayer we pray: “Forgive us our debts (trespasses, sins) as WE HAVE FORGIVEN those of others. God the Father forgives us as we forgive others. Therefore, we cannot hate.”
For a group that cannot hate, they seem to do it quite a bit. And not just Xians, but all the religions seem bent on tormenting anyone who isn’t in their club. No, you personally don’t hate atheists, you just call them names, misrepresent them and want to curtail their civil rights.
“Yea, I hate to burst that little atheist bubble, but we don’t hate you. We love you. We are praying for you. We want you to be happy and learn how to play well with others and love them the way you love yourself. You can’t do this by constantly looking to be offended.”
You have a fracked up way of showing love, but I suppose it is consistent with the love of your imaginary friend. The bible is replete with examples of god being petty, jealous and genocidal. But it’s far more likely that the people who created the character were petty, jealous and genocidal. I don’t look to be offended. I look to get along, but it’s hard to get along when ever I turn around W is trying to put the bible into legislation. You don’t personally know any atheists. You’re attacking the few that are outspoken. Maybe you should try finding out what atheists are REALLY like. You’d find that their just like everyone else, they don’t want others to force their beliefs on them and for the most part just want to get along and live their lives in peace.
“I think that’s what is so sad about someone who is a die-hard practitioner of the atheist religion. They don’t understand that Christ requires that we love one another, not hate.”
Practice what you preach, thou jerk. Instead of posting half truths, bigotry, outright lies and one logical fallacy after another, be a bit more like this Christ character. Maybe try learning what words mean before you use them. Maybe try finding out that people who share a label aren’t all the same. Maybe discover that your assumptions based on a loud few don’t apply to the whole. Try rereading your post but replace Christian with White, and atheist with Black. That might help you realize how bigoted you are. Maybe then you might open your mind.
Not only did you use every cliche stereotype about atheists but your post is drenched in hatred and intolerance. Don’t bother trying to feed us that “it’s not hate, I love you” garbage. Your faux love convinces nobody but you and your friends.
Feel free to pray for us 24-7 for perhaps the next 10 years. The more time you waste talking to your hands the less you’ll have to spew banal nonsense and work to harm others.
There are theists who understand the definition of the term atheism. Your blogpost entitled “The Atheistic Assault on Christians LET’S ANNOY ‘EM & PRAY FOR ‘EM!” clearly indicates that you do not fall into this category. You even fail to understand that atheism is not a religion.
Since you are familiar with Austin Cline’s Website, perhaps it is a good idea to visit his site and read some of the articles that explain what atheisms is and what the common misconceptions are regarding atheism if ever you decide to write another article about atheism.
I used to have a blog and I would educate myself on a subject before I’d start writing about it. I would make sure I understood the meaning of
the words I used in my posts. Unfamiliarity with the subjects they write about tends to make authors seem very unprofessional in the eyes of the people who read their work, you see. Those who consider an author to be unprofessional are extremely unlikely to purchase any books written by the author in question. I saw on this page that you have written 2 novels. If I were a writer and I’d want my books to sell, I’d make sure I’d come across as professional. But hey, the choice is yours….
One more thing, generally speaking love is not displayed by attacking people verbally, calling them names, and accusing them of wrongdoing. Perhaps love is yet another term you need to learn the meaning of.
Your title says “LET’S ANNOY ‘EM”. You don’t annoy people you love. And that’s the whole problem; you don’t love atheists, you don’t tolerate them; you dislike and hate them.
Why do you accuse them of being “dogmatic” and using “faith”, when atheism requires no dogma or faith? Setting aside the fact that there is neither dogma nor faith in atheism, if you are trying to lower atheism to the low level of dogma and faith, isn’t that an admission that the reason and rationality of atheism are higher than the dogma and faith of religion? What dogma is required to dismiss faith in Thor, or Zeus? None. You dismiss these gods too. Atheists just dismiss your god for the same reasons you dismiss all others. See? No dogma or faith required. Now that you know this, stop perpetuating lies.
“They don’t have the intellectual honesty to admit their very worship of their atheism is a religion in itself.”
What nonsense. Again, you are acknowledging something as superior by blatantly trying to drag it down to your level.
“The practitioners of the Atheist Religion are not content just to not believe anything – be a normal agnostic.”
What annoys you is that some atheists won’t just stay quiet, and not criticise. Well, if you don’t want to be criticised for having illogical superstitions, don’t express them. Agnosticism is not a position on belief, it’s a statement about knowledge. An agnostic is an atheist who says they don’t know if any gods exist, and lives his life as if none do. If agnosticism is so “normal”, then why don’t you take your own advice, and try it? Stop telling everyone that you “know” your god, you “know” how to get immortality, you “know” what your god wants.
“They have no sense of humor, have massive chips on their scrawny little shoulders, and are always trying to make trouble. No wonder they feel persecuted, themselves.”
Rather than address real issues, you stereotype and demonise, because you are a religious bigot. Yes, no wonder they feel persecuted. They are. By people like you.
“Instead of acting like normal adults, they must have their little temper tantrums and set up their altars to nothingness, and force their religion on everyone else, no matter how much we do not want it.”
I couldn’t agree more. Your altars are to nothingness, because your god is fictional.
“They have a bad attitude.”
More than a bad attitude, religionists like you are intolerant bigots.
“Cline obviously does not comprehend that by our very nature, Christians are not ALLOWED to hate.”
Then why do you? Your entire article is an exercise in hate. This is why atheists not only consider Christians to be hateful, but to also be liars. Your piece is condescending hypocracy which is blindingly apparent to anyone reading it.
The writer of this column got owned. You should really consider stop writing about religion in general, because you obviously don’t have a clue of whats going on.
Hector C, Educated Atheist
You are obviously an only child, or you would know just how much fun it is to annoy someone you love. If you don’t comprehend that…? Well, what’s the use.
Sorry, but I don’t hate anyone. That’s where you are completely wrong.
Pink Flamingo, you make the mistake of characterising “Athiesm” as a religion, which is absurd. Just think about what you are saying for a little. You seem to be assuming that religion is bad, so athiesm must also be bad. So what are you saying about Christianity which is a religion? I think calling “athiesm” a religion is demonstrably wrong, and I disagree with your assumption that all religions must be bad.
You claim to love athiests but you consistently attack and denigrate them with the intent of “annoying” them. This contradiction is so blatant that there is no way you are going to convince an athiest that you love them. I also would think that an athiest would have a hard time to believe that you would actually pray for them (this is not to say that you haven’t but that your words of intolerance and hate makes it hard for athiests believe that you are doing it out of the goodness of your heart).
If God really wanted to save all the athiests, all he would need to do is make an appearance and demonstrate that he exists.
You need to understand that an athiest position actually makes sense: there is no credible evidence for the existence of God. That does not mean that proves that God does not exist. It just means that thus far there is no good reason to believe in him. You may not agree with athiests, but that does not mean you cannot tolerant them. If you really love them, then pray for them without the intent of annoying them.
Your attitude towards atheists in this post and your claim to “love” us reminds me of the children’s book, “The Little Engine That Could”. Instead of trying to convince yourself that you can climb a steep hill, you’re trying to convince yourself that you can love atheists. “I think I can… I think I can…”
The brand of “love” you’re displaying here in this post I can do well enough without.
Your ignorance is astounding. I particularly like how you posted that quote from your grandfather about hatred no less and say that describes us to a “T” that we are “making everyone hate us”… but then you say you love us…
I’m confused, which is it?
Wow, you succeeded spectacularly! Lot of annoyed posts here. I have heard the idea that it takes more faith to believe in nothing before, but I don’t understand what is meant by it and the people who have said it have never provided an explanation. Could you post the explanation here? Seriously, I’m not trying to be funny or anything. I would like to know.
