One of the very real problems with our politically correct culture and historical revisionism is the fact that if a person is from the South, grew up in the South, or even attempts to comment upon historical revisionism about the South, they are accused of being a racist. Who or what that person actually is doesn’t matter. All that really matters is the fact that anything “Southern” is considered the root of everything that has ever been evil in this nation. If any attempt is made to correct that lie, the person doing the correcting is labeled “racist”. I’m getting a bit tired of this cultural ignorance and historical revisionism.
Anyone who considers a white person a racist simply because they were born, have roots in, or grew up in the South is nothing but a closed minded bigot.
Enough of my rant.
Note to The One (elect): The Civil War ended over 150 years ago. Is it possible that The One (elect) has a problem with the states south of the old Mason-Dixon? Unlike other leaders in his position, he has not chosen one Cabinet level individual from the South. Abraham Lincoln detested the South.
There is a tradition at Clemson University, that Lincoln’s birth father was John C. Calhoun. In fact, the papers attesting to this relationship are there at the university and have been on display a time or two. EVERYONE around there knows it. Or they did before this plague of historical ignorance that has blanketed our nation engulfed even South Carolina.
According to Calhoun family lore and Clemson legend, Lincoln detested the South because he was deprived of his birthright and inheritance. I truly hope The One (elect) is not going to follow in Lincoln’s shoes.
The One (elect)’s choice of Bible to be sworn in on is extremely revealing for two reasons.
When a person is sworn into office – any office – they usually (almost always) choose a Bible that has special sentimental meaning for them. When our previous Presidents have been sworn in, they used Bibles that were special to them.
(FYI – If I were to be sworn into an office, I would use the Bible given to me by Dr. Ryan Wood at Memorial Presbyterian Church, I think it was in 1968. My grandfather Froehlich was the head of the session or what ever it was called, and had also signed it. It is one of my most cherished possessions, one of the reasons being the fact that it settled for once and for all if my name was Sarah Jo or Sarah Josephine. Fortunately, it is the latter. My mother was so ill after I was born she wasn’t sure if she’d used the “Josephine”.)
The One (elect) is going to be using the Bible Abraham Lincoln used when he was sworn in as POTUS. The humor of the situation is the fact that Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. Does Obama realize this? Considering how shaky his grasp on American history, culture, and the Constitution is, I do wonder.
“…Instead, another Bible was bought by William Thomas Carroll, the Supreme Court Clerk, who later wrote at the back of the book certifying that it was indeed the Bible on which the 16th president had been sworn in. It has not been used since.
The 1,280-page Bible, published in 1853 by the Oxford University Press, is bound in burgundy velvet with a gold-washed metal rim, its edges heavily gilded.
“President-elect Obama is deeply honored that the Library of Congress has made the Lincoln Bible available for use during his swearing-in,” Emmett Beliveau, who heads Mr Obama’s inaugural commmittee, told Time magazine.
“The President-elect is committed to holding an inauguration that celebrates America’s unity, and the use of this historic Bible will provide a powerful connection to our common past and common heritage.”…”
This is a sham on several levels. The Civil War is over, the nation does not need to be reunited the way it did when Lincoln was sworn in for the second time. Obama is attempting to emulate Lincoln, including his historic train trip to DC.
Does anyone grasp the fact that the reason Lincoln went by train was because it was the fastest way to travel?
If Lincoln had not traveled by train, he would have been forced to take the stage or private coach.
Oh, the stupids who do not know history….!
Lincoln could be very petty and vindictive. His scorched earth policy, while highly effective, is hailed as a “humane” way to have brought the South into submission. Funny, if George W. Bush had used the same policy against Islamic terrorists, he would be denounced as a monster. I guess it’s just the way you look at people, isn’t it?
The One (elect)’s desire to emulate Lincoln worries me. Is he going to emulate Lincoln’s hatred of all things Southern?
Does he grasp that the Civil War ended nearly 153 years ago?
Does he grasp that Reconstruction was a failed moment in American History.
Does he comprehend that the South, contrary to historical revisionism, had fewer problems achieving Integration than the bigoted northern states? (Look I grew up during that time frame – I saw it with my own eyes).
Oh well, we’re dealing with historical and cultural ignorance, so why even bother?
THE REAL PROBLEM
The very real and tragic aspect of all of this is the fact that Barack Obama is using a Bible that had very little sentimental value to Abraham Lincoln. I have always been fascinated by the alleged faith or alleged lack of faith of Lincoln.
We Christian Republicans have a tendency to want to look at the political world as either Christian or not Christian. We want all of our leaders to be either Christian or Jewish, and nothing in between. Non religious liberals have a tendency to turn our “Founding Fathers” into philosophical non-Christians, which is not quite the truth – either.
Our greatest leaders, contrary to current revisionist culture, were men of rather strong faith. From what I have been able to ascertain, Lincoln was not one of those men. There were any number of rumors that Lincoln dabbled in “Spiritualism”. Victorian spiritualism was quite popular at the time. It is part of the historical record that Mary Todd Lincoln was quite active in the movement. Rumors mentioned Lincoln’s involvement, but nothing can be proved.
We know that Lincoln was probably suffering from depression following the death of a beloved son. What is rather fascinating, and never mentioned, and quite Obamaesque is the narcissistic way Lincoln handled the death of Willie. Instead of using his child’s death as a way of bonding with and emphasizing with the grieving parents of a country torn apart, Lincoln withdrew into himself, and basically made an ass of himself over his son’s death. Today, if a celebrity behaved the way Lincoln did, we would hear no end of the tabloid tales.
But – that was Lincoln and Lincoln is sacred.
(Granted, during that time frame, very public and excess grief was all the fashion for heads of state).
THE ONE (ELECT)’S LACK OF FAITH
Lincoln is long dead. The One (elect) is alive and well, and obviously a man who has no spiritual center. He has no base. There is nothing to him.
He has no faith.
There are those who claim Obama is a “Christian”, but I’m not seeing it. If so, the poor man would have a beloved family Bible, or a Bible that was important to him. He would reach inside and not grasp the superficial.
Instead, he goes for the superficial and in doing so, literally exposes his tragic soul.
This is a man we must assume does not know Christ. He is a man who needs every prayer we can offer.
Barack Obama has a tendency to identify with two former Presidents: Kennedy and Lincoln. Both men suffered the same fate. Does he have the historical mentality to realize what he is doing? Somehow I doubt that he does.
It is almost like he is tempting fate and thumbing his nose at it.
I am afraid for him.
I fear for his soul.
I do not think we can assume Barack Obama has experienced the Salvation of Jesus Christ.
Having a leader who doesn’t know how to pray and beseech God for assistance is one thing. Having one who is almost tempting fate – and thumbing his nose at it – and does not know Christ is tragic.
Pray for the soul and salvation of this man.
We must not assume he has turned his life over to Christ.

I agree with you. As a matter of fact, I was worrying about this as well. I do not know what is wrong with people, but anyone who thinks that a child is created only after they make it out of the womb is an absolute moron. They do not know the LORD. Yes, we must pray ever the more. Thank you for such a wonderful post.
