Would someone please explain to me why South Carolina’s incompetent Republican governor is so beloved by conservatives?  If nothing else, it does display a woeful lack of wisdom, discretion, and outright good taste.  South Carolina Republicans consider Sandford abjectly incompetent, and a tremendous disappointment to them. It makes you wonder about conservatives.  Evidently they are truly clueless.

The Palmetto Scoop highlights the problem with the headline:  Sanford is big time:  Governor Makes the Drudge Report for Doing Absolutely Nothing!

“…Drudge called it “bold,” which is one way of looking at it. After all, you do have to be pretty “bold” to throw 77,000 of your state’s residents under the bus in order to turn a $146 million loan into a political football. So what if they starve? Sanford gets to look like an ideological hero and make it on Drudge for once again not doing a damn thing. If he’s not remembered as South Carolina’s do-nothing governor, he should certainly go down in history as our ironic governor….”

SC Blogger Earl Capps puts it so well:

“…Where Carroll Campbell’s second half of his second term was a victory lap, Sanford’s second half of his second term will likely accomplish little to nothing. Whatever showboating he does will be noticed by few, except by those who welcome his departure, including many Republicans.

We’re not faulting the Governor for his many good ideas, but rather his total ineptitude at getting any of these ideas enacted. For this, Mark Sanford, who we once enthusiastically supported but now regret, has earned our recognition as the 2008 Joker of the Year….”

Over the past few months, The Pink Flamingo has been reporting on Mark Sanford, the irrational conservative love affair with him, and his abject incompetent stupidity. I don’t mind admitting one of the reasons I dislike Sanford is his history of trashing Sarah Palin and the fact that he did not have the intellectual courage to endorse a GOP candidate until well after the primaries were over!

This time Sanford has really stepped in it. Naturally our dear non-SC conservatives are hailing him for his idiotic stand on unemployment funds for SC.  In South Carolina they are hurting with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.  Sanford is trying to look like this big macho conservative, and gain brownie points nationally, while risking the possibility of doing real damage to the Republican Party within his own state.

FTS News reported on the problem:

“…By threatening to effectively withhold nearly $150 million worth of unemployment benefit payments to an estimated 77,000 unemployed South Carolinians, the governor is hoping to draw a line in the sand and force long-overdue reforms at this inept, irresponsible agency. That’s a great desired outcome, and one that would no doubt result in more consistent employment data, a better understanding of why our rates are so consistently high and, most importantly, better service to our state’s swelling ranks of unemployed workers.
But he’s already lost the argument …
Seriously, we’re all for holding guns to people’s heads (figuratively speaking), but you probably shouldn’t announce a week before Christmas that you’re going to cut off relief to people who need it because you’re involved in an inter-governmental pissing contest. Obviously, not all 77,000 of those people we mentioned earlier represent legitimate unemployment claims. In fact, one of the biggest problems at the Employment Security Commission (like our state’s multiple health care agencies) is a rash of fraudulent claims that the agency leadership has proven utterly incompetent at weeding out.
And frankly, it’s ridiculous that we pay individuals $1300 a month to be unemployed.
But guess what – a lot of those people represent legitimate claims, which is why the governor’s game of chicken is well-intentioned, but inappropriate….”

Mark Sanford is an inept, incompetent self serving politician. He has put a presidentail run before the well being of his very own (financially deficient) state. Politics before the well being of the very people that elected you into office.
    Sad for South Carolinians.
Sanford, trying to turn everyone in his state into Fred Sanford.
