The Val Kilmer “run” for Governor of NM is getting interesting – fascinating, actually.
Yes, this is another shameless ploy for me to use a clip from Tombstone. I discovered that some enterprising soul has put the entire movie up on YouTube. I think you can guess where I’m going with this. So, while you read the latest gossip, enjoy Part 1 of Tombstone! (FYI, I still think Heather Wilson can beat him).
The gossip about a Kilmer run for governor has hit the wire services, AP, and Yahoo. As of this writing, it hasn’t hit Drudge but it has hit the NY Post. It won’t be long before Drudge hit is. MSNBC, The Denver Post. They are now covering the story in the UK. All I know is either Kilmer is testing the water and waiting to see what sort of response he is going to have, or it is a slow news day. If he is “testing the water” then he has someone quite smart pulling the strings. If he is doing this himself, you’d better keep an eye on the man. If this is his own doing, the man has excellent political instincts and could be a force to reckon with. Poor Diane Denish doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in you know what.
This is going to be fun. I’m not sure if Val Kilmer is planning the whole media blitz, or if the press is simply tired of Obama-Rama. Could be a little of both. I do know Diane Denish must have her you know whaties in a wad over the whole affair. Poor Thing, so near, yet so far from her coveted prize. The best part about the same wire-story going viral is the fact that it must be driving her absolutely crazy. Especially the paragraph:
A Kilmer candidacy could throw a monkey wrench into the well-oiled Democratic machine of Lt. Gov. Diane Denish, who’s already running for the job.
In a way I would like to see her plans thwarted. There are all sorts of stories about some kind of a power grab building in Hobbs. If Harry Teague (D-2nd District) was not from the same Hobbs machine I wouldn’t think much about it. But they are. There is a heck of a lot of oil money in Hobbs. There is gossip that the powers that be who have quite a bit of money down there would like to be more powerful within the state. When Denish was going to be “governor” before the “Big Bill” take down, she was appointing any number of her friends from Hobbs.
There’s something else going on here. Kilmer is alleged to be a big Ralph Nader buff, to the point where he may have supported Nader over Obama. Doing a quick Open Secrets search, I can’t find much of anything. In California, under Newsmeat, we find that the only campaign donations Kilmer has made is to Ralph Nader. This could be very interesting.
