It’s official, he’s now bigger than Jesus Christ! Of course I could try a really cheap shot and say so was Hitler. Then again they are asking all their little “progressive” friends to help make America safe for something less than “freedom”. He Loves His Social Life! Does the Partying President have time to do any work? Or are The Ones taking a page from the Reagan Playbook?
“…A White House aide who spoke on the condition of anonymity dismissed the notion that a publicly populist Obama White House is privately courting socialites, contending that the meeting was held to explore how the Obamas can “engage in the community.” The aide also pointed out that similar meetings were held with representatives of sports, entertainment and philanthropic organizations in Washington.
The outreach to the luxury lifestyle glossies, which cater to the region’s highest socioeconomic strata with knowing coverage of everything from the choicest real estate and most exclusive parties to the plushest resorts and spas, is not the only recent evidence that the Obama administration is eager to forge ties with the nation’s social and style arbiters.
Last month, White House social secretary Desiree Rogers, who has said she intends to make the White House the “people’s” mansion, was rubbing shoulders with the kinds of people who land in the pages of People at New York Fashion Week.
A chic and soignee Ms. Rogers was photographed seated next to fashion high priestess Anna Wintour at the Carolina Herrera fashion show, where a design bears a price tag in the thousands….Chuck Conconi, a former social columnist, said the Obamas are taking a leaf from the Reagan playbook by blending social Washington, political figures and Hollywood. “The Bushes weren’t doing much,” he said. “They spent most of their time at Camp David or at their ranch, so there was not so much competition to get in to certain parties. But the Obamas are very smart. They remind me a lot of the Reagans. No one used the social structure of Washington quite like Ronald Reagan.”
The Reagans were known for using glamorous, connected intermediaries like Motion Picture Association of America President Jack Valenti to lure jaded journalists and political enemies to social functions like White House movie screenings to achieve political ends.
It was the Reagans, after all, who skillfully brought together Princess Diana and actor John Travolta in 1985 for one of the most famous dances and subsequent photo ops in presidential history, and shamelessly charmed House Speaker Tip O’Neill with their dazzling parties.
If the Reagan formula for mixing politics and glamorous play has made a comeback in the Obama White House, the severity of the spreading economic crisis — as well as the administration’s economic populism — has cast the “play” part of the equation in a harsher light….”
Barack Obama does not appear to comprehend that the United States of America is based on a Constitution with certain rights. Or, he doesn’t give a damn. Or, he’s so self-involved that he can’t be bothered. I happen to think it is the latter.
Barack Obama wants people to live within their means, this while he jets off to stay in a $4000 a night suite, spends at least a half a mil so Michelle can have a Valentine’s Day, and the Mrs. is spending $100,000 to redecorate the White House (private living area).
Of course, HRO is quickly getting the reputation of being abjectly incompetent.
“…Team Obama was also winging it on enhanced interrogation of terrorists. First it nullified all the Bush administration’s legal authorities before considering what rules it should have in place. When the CIA briefed White House officials on the results obtained from these techniques, the administration backtracked and organized a four-month study of what rules were appropriate.
Something similar happened with the promise to close Guantanamo Bay within a year: The administration has no idea what it will do with the violent terrorists detained there. And on ethics, Mr. Obama proclaimed an end to lobbyist influence in government — even as he was nominating lobbyists for major posts and filling White House ranks with former lobbyists.
Team Obama has been living off its campaign reputation for planning and execution. That reputation is now frayed, and all the bumbling and unforced errors will have an impact. Such things don’t go unnoticed on Capitol Hill or in foreign capitals.
The president, a bright and skilled politician, has plenty of time to recover. The danger is that what we have seen is not an aberration, but the early indications of his governing style. Barack Obama won the job he craved, now he must demonstrate that he and his team are up to its requirements. The signs are worrisome. The world is a dangerous place. The days of winging it need to end….”
Tony Blankley examines The One (anointed)’s ruling style:
“…I can think of four possible explanations for this almost unprecedented presidential detachment from the decision making of policies the president publicly declared to be vital to the country and his presidency:
1) He is a very, very big-picture man, and he delegates decisions even on the central points of vital issues.
2) For tactical reasons, he decided these matters were not worth using up political chits.
3) He is either hesitant or unskilled at management, and he let matters drift until it seemed too late to intervene personally.
4) Or his personality type leaves him surprisingly uninterested in things that aren’t personally about him….”
He will to just about anything to go after his “enemies”:
“…A team of Obama campaign operatives, joined by major news outlets, descended on Wasilla, Alaska immediately after Governor Sarah Palin was introduced as Senator John McCain’s running mate. This was immediately followed by patently false reports claiming Palin imposed book bans, joined a fringe political party, charged rape victims for emergency room treatment and cut funding for special needs children.
In late August, the Obama campaign emailed an “Obama Action Wire” to thousands of supporters and liberal activists exhorting them to harass the offices of Chicago’s WGN radio by flooding the station with angry phone calls and emails. Activists screamed insults to call-in screeners. The radio station’s offense was that a long-time, respected radio host had the temerity to interview Ethics and Public Policy Center watchdog Stanley Kurtz. Kurtz had uncovered university records that documented a much closer relationship between Obama and Ayers than the presidential candidate had previously disclosed.
A few weeks later, state prosecutors and top sheriffs in Missouri who were prominent Obama supporters responded to a chilling Obama campaign request. They styled themselves as a “truth squad” and threatened to prosecute anyone including media outlets that printed or broadcasted material they deemed to be inaccurate about the Illinois Senator….”
