We the People Need to Demand Our Country Be Given Back to Us

This is the original version of a piece I wrote for Blogcritics.  Unfortunately, it met with a bit of liberal criticism and some editorial cuts.  I like the original version better.

This repulsive collective nightmare of self-pity and fear needs to end.  As a nation we have allowed ourselves to be divided by diverse political  entities that are only interested in one thing, power.  As a nation, we, the people have run around like pathetic losers as we allow alleged leaders who are far inferior to us grasp power, preach, and turn themselves into medieval over-lords.

Our Founding Fathers wrote, “We the people…”

We the people of the United States of America…

It isn’t they the elected leaders… or those who tax us…it is We the People of the United States of America…

We the People…

Not the Cabinet
Not the House of Representatives
Not the Senate
Not the Vice President
Not the President..

It is not the media…

It is We the People of the United States in order to form a more perfect union….

We the people need to start taking responsibility for the mess we helped make.  We need to take responsibility for the mess we have made of our personal finances.  We need to take responsibility for the fact that we have sold our souls to doing the things the easy way and have allowed ourselves to be lead like sheep to the slaughter.

We the people need to stop crying out for leaders.
We the people need to step up and lead.

We need to demand a change of business as usual.
We need to demand the yoke of unfair taxation with shoddy representation be lifted from our shoulders.
We need to get back to the words of the Constitution.
We need to remember the Bill of Rights.
We need to require our elected officials be responsible to us, and not the other way around

We the people need to remember the old cliché that Freedom isn’t Free is as true today as it ever was.  We need to remember the brave men and women who have suffered for freedom, who have given a limb, have been hideously burned, scarred, battered, or worse.  We need to honor those who have fought for our freedom, and not be so self-involved in our petty little differences and political agendas that we are blind to their needs.

We the people…

Those three words are so trivial and yet so very powerful.  Through the history of mankind the only other words that packed as much in the way of power, strength, and implied demands of a representative republic were the four words:  The Senate and People of Rome – SPQR.  During the history of the civilized world, which keeps being pushed back, probably toward 10,000 BC (that’s Before Christ for those of you who are either culturally illiterate or politically correct) only two such entities exist:  The United States of America and the Roman Republic.  Both were synonymous with power, order, and the promotion of civilization.
The Senate and the People of Rome

Rome was defeated, not by disease, not by lead pipes or conquest, but by political corruption.

SPQR became Bread & Circuses.

The People of Rome became addicted to the favors and bribes of wheat and spectacular entertainments.  They were fetid by a corrupt, dependent aristocracy  They were not interested in the good of the nation, they were interested in power.

The acquisition of absolute power, corrupted absolutely.  Anyone, no matter their station life, who protested against this corruption was put to death, their estates confiscated and their families either executed, exiled, or enslaved.

Is this the direction We the People are traveling?

It doesn’t matter if the corruption comes from the left or from the right.  What matters is that We the People steer the Ship of State back to the center of the straight and narrow.

We the People need to remember the lessons of history.  The redistribution of wealth only benefits the distributors.  Taxes are punitive.  The silencing of opposition voices through harassment leads to dictatorship.

We the People need to remember that this nation has a few warts and is not perfect, BUT, it is the finest nation ever created and We the People are the best examples of humanity the world has ever known.  The next time you feel like trashing this country and the brave men and women who have fought and died so you can do just that, maybe you should remember a few things

The only reason you can even trash this nation and not pay the ultimate price is because of We the People!

Funny thing about We the People who only want to trash, complain, and destroy the time-honored traditions of this nation, they can only complain and degrade.  When you press the average complainer, all they want to do is complain.  I have a feeling that is just their personality.  If they weren’t complaining about this country, they would be complaining about the weather.

How many people actually know the importance of those few simple words:  We the People of the United States …

How many of our elected officials actually know the meaning of them?

Do you?

The words are so simple, but are almost magical in their scope.  They are plain, but immensely powerful.  The demand the We the People of the United States stand up and take responsibility for our actions and our destiny.

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

There were 10 Amendments placed into the Constitution of the United States of America in order to see that it remained We the People of the United States. It is called the Bill of Rights.

We the People are not We the Mob.

We the People has nothing to do with the haunting, hunting, harassment, and intimidation of decent men and women just because the happen to work for a company that is not quite popular at the current time.

We the People should be absolutely terrified of the newly appropriated, and completely unconstitutional powers grasped by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, demanding the power to tax at a 90% rate.

We the People need to grab our pitch-forks, cattle-prods, rotten tomatoes, and spoiled Limburger cheese, and hunt, not the employees of those companies, but those repulsive, vampire-like usurpers of the Constitution. We need to approach them with wreaths of garlic, crosses, and holy water.  If not, they will soon come for We the People.

We the People need to remember what We the People is all about. It is about us – about our freedom – not about those who are in power.
