Today’s Opera at Noon has been rescheduled. Maurice Jarre was one of the great film composers. He died yesterday at the age of 84. His soundtracks included Dr. Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, and the beautiful score for Witness. He won three Oscars for Best Film Score.
My favorite score, though is from the grossly underestimated 1966 classic, starring James Garner and Yves Montand, Grand Prix. If have never seen this film, make sure you watch the wide-screen version. Better yet, find an old Cinerama screen, and see it the way it was designed to be seen.
