Four Years of Blogging

Share

First, a word about my blog host.  When I first began blogging I used Blog Harbor.  When it was suggested I switch to a WordPress format, I was furious.  Blog Harbor has an excellent uptime.  I was happy with it.  As I reluctantly switched to Press Harbor, I just knew I was going to hate every minute of it.  I don’t mind admitting I was wrong, very wrong.  I cannot brag enough about the personal service, uptime, and assistance.  One of the things I’ve never been able to understand is this constant need for bloggers to ask for “tips” or donations.  Press Harbor is so reasonable, it won’t break anyone.  If you need a great host – try it!

The Pink Flamingo went on line at the old site on October 4, 2005.  There is no way I will even copy the first post it was so pathetic, not that it isn’t still pathetic.  During those four years the world has changed.

When The Pink Flamingo began blogging my main promise was to support the Republican Party and be as honest as I possibly could.  This has not changed.  Conservatives have changed.  There is a tendency online for conservatives to be more irrational and more extreme.  I’ve seen that Libertarian Party infusion I’ve been fearing step in and attempt to hijack the party.  Thanks to those same Losertarians good, decent Republicans are now damning George W. Bush and worshiping a seriously disturbed Libertarian demigod who knows when to turn on the tears.

Today I am far more pessimistic than I was four years ago. This pessimisim is not about Barack Obama, who is on the way to becoming comic relief.  The pessimism I see is the constant attack on good Republicans by Libertarians who have no shame, no honor, and no decency.  Lying about their conservative leanings, these anti-war, conspiracy believing, nuts are marching lock-step with their fearless leaders like Ron Paul and a few others, taking our country over a cliff.

We are looking at what should be a major take-over in the House in 2010 and major inroads in the Senate in 2010.  If these Libertarians (not to be confused with “libertarian” Republicans who are true Republicans) Losertarians have their way, Barack Obama and the Dems will maintain control of the House and Senate in 2010 and basically destroy our country.

Republicans need to realize that there is nothing wrong with calling themselves Republicans first and “conservative” second.  While it is nice to harken back to Reagan, this ongoing worship of a great man who would be the first person to start telling off most of these people, Ronald Reagan is not a religion.  Our world has changed.  Reagan’s basic principles are still right, but conservatives who pick and chose what they use are turning him into a farce.

These past four years have seen the radical right grow more vocal and possibly more powerful – online.  I am convinced they are a fringe minority who do not represent anything but their own demands for attention and 100% conservative purity.  They are idiots.  You cannot win elections on purity, but on principles and vision. Extremes do not win. The US is now a center right nation. Deal with it.

The other thing I’ve seen is this tendency for the fringe right to attempt to either assimilate or excommunicate anyone who does not march to their demands of purity.  They claim to worship Reagan, but are ignoring his 80% of the time and his 11th Commandment. Those two things are the reason Reagan was able to turn this nation around and bring about “Morning in America”.

The Pink Flamingo has experienced this “cold shoulder” from people she thought were friends.  So vocal in their demands and so thuggish in their methods, these fringe conservatives constantly turn normal Republicans into far right zombies.  They’ve decided Sarah Palin is now their perfect Reagan clone.  Many have visions of Libertarian success dancing through their heads.  I’ve watched as the fringe right and Losertarians have stepped in and taken over something that was once terribly exciting.

It is no longer fashionable or acceptable to express one’s self or offer any sort of opposing viewpoint.  Until people realize that none of us are always right and only Democrats are always wrong (just a joke) our world is going to be a very sorry place.

If we were in the same situation today as we were in 1776, the Brits would have no worries.

In many ways it is sad.  People are changing.  We are reaching the point where it is almost as if the cry-babies have taken over the world.  Reason and rational discourse on any level is going the way of the dinosaur.  The things going on in the political world simply reflect reality.  If you do not agree with someone YOU are evil and they are good. The give and take of the daily grown-up world is being supplanted by the actions of children, led by a very immature, egotistical President who is more interested in being the Celeb in Chief than protecting our nation.

10.  I think the most exciting part of blogging these past 4 years is watching my friend Lindsey grow from a very good leader and Senator into a major national political figure.  He has become a true leader (we all knew he would be).  He has become a statesman.
