Certain segments of the blogsphere are quite upset over the FTC’s new blogging disclosure ruling.
This is one of those times where The Pink Flamingo doesn’t mind a little disclosure. It could be very good for the soul, especially if political bloggers are REQUIRED to make a few disclosures. After all, confession is allegedly good for the soul.
“…New guidelines released by the Federal Trade Commission say bloggers must disclose any money or freebies they receive in exchange for writing product reviews, a fast-growing and loosely regulated way for companies to market everything from diapers to movies. The move is an effort to apply the same rules that already cover broadcast stations, newspapers and magazines to the Wild West marketplace of the World Wide Web….”
What is even more fascinating is just who is complaining, and blogging about the new ruling. Check Memeroandum. With the exception of Hot Air and the WSJ, those making the biggest deal about the ruling are from the left. Interesting isn’t it?
As a political blogger, I happen to think all renumeration, gifts, and assistance should be disclosed, no matter what the party, Democratic, Republican, or Losertarian. The implications for the paid blogging hacks on the left is enormous, thus I wonder if they aren’t going to start protesting.
For the record, The Pink Flamingo has NEVER received anything, no perk, no book to review, no “tip” for a cup of coffee, no Amazon gift book – no NOTHING. I think it is wrong. As a blogger, save for a “hot tip of information” I get nothing but a heck of a lot of lip, out of blogging.
I don’t believe in it.
Would I like to be paid to do this? You’re darn right I would. But – I value my independence. I am beholden to no one but my own conscience.
Then again – do liberal bloggers who are hacks for Obama have a conscience?
Can you imagine what might have happened in Alaska if certain bloggers who were against a certain former governor were forced to disclose their conflict of interest?
There is still some information I would like to know about certain divas who made it their life’s work to destroy a decent woman. How much were these people paid? What was their relationship to the DNC, to the Obama machine?
I think disclosure could be a very good thing.
I would like to know who certain “conservatives” actually support. I would like to know their actual political affiliation. Wouldn’t you?
This could be fun.
Full disclosure: I write a lot about Lindsey Graham. He is a friend. I was his GOP county chair when he ran for Congress the first time. I was there from day one to support him, and continue to do so.
I wonder how much Celtic Diva WAS “paid” to trash Sarah Palin and file all those ethics charges….. don’t you?
P. S. There are have been rumors of paid DNC bloggers, paid ObamaBots. This could be fun.
