NOTE: If The Pink Flamingo were still living in SC and involved in SC GOP politics, I would be advocating immediate and swift retaliatory action against the Charleston County GOP. The reprehensible actions against Lindsey are one reason. Most importantly is their endorsement of the Tea Party Patriot?s who are in the process of calling the shots in Charleston County.
“…A local group of conservatives from the Tea Party Organization, 9.12 and members of the Charleston GOP met and interviewed candidates for local races. They have made the following recommendations for local offices which we support. These candidates have been identified as conservative candidates for these local non-partisan elections. We are asking your support of these individuals through volunteer efforts or cash donations. Please pick one and help them get elected…”
The Tea Party people have submitted a list of acceptable local Tea Party people who are “pure” enough to be endorsed by the county Executive Committee for local offices. In other words, the Charleston County GOP is being run by Glenn Beck’s 912 group of “patriots” and not by actual Republican values. This is reprehensible. The SCGOP should demand the resignation of all local officers involved in this fiasco. The problem is, right now, Republicans are quaking in their boots because Glenn Beck is now the most powerful man in the GOP.
How dare these people censure Lindsey. It is not about “patriotism” but the revenge of Ron Paul Bots and Glenn Beck’s little minions.
“…”When I began entering into the give and take …, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn’t like it. “Compromise” was a dirty word to them and they wouldn’t face the fact that we couldn’t get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don’t get it all, some said, don’t take anything. “I’d learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: ‘I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.’ “If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that’s what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it….”
No, this is not something Lindsey Graham said. It comes directly from the mouth of Ronald Reagan. The great irony here is the fact that Lindsey Graham has been censured and damned by the Far Right, and the Tea Party People for actually doing what Ronald Reagan said a good Republican should do. The Tea Party People now appear to be calling the shots for the GOP, or rather blackmailing the GOP into doing what their stupidity requires. They are in danger of becoming the GOP version of ACORN.
“…Graham has also angered conservative activists for his criticism of “tea party” protesters and others who have sought to impose a strict ideological litmus test on Republican lawmakers…. The county GOP is closely connected to the tea party movement: According to its Web Site, the party apparatus worked with a local group of protesters to identify and support conservatives running in local, nonpartisan elections….
“A local group of conservatives from the Tea Party Organization, 9.12 and members of the Charleston GOP met and interviewed candidates for local races. They have made the following recommendations for local offices which we support. These candidates have been identified as conservative candidates for these local non-partisan elections. We are asking your support of these individuals through volunteer efforts or cash donations. Please pick one and help them get elected,” the Web Site says. According to the paper, in addition to censuring Graham “for many of the positions he has taken that do not represent the wishes of the people of South Carolina,” it also calls on the state party to withdraw a resolution commending Graham….”
SC’s leading blog, the Palmetto Scoop put it this way:
“…Graham has come under fire by some Republicans for working with Democrats to include in a climate change bill measures that would expand offshore drilling as well as nuclear energy, clean coal and natural gas — something the GOP has ironically wanted for years….”
It’s all about energy independence and national security.
“…”We need to begin pumping every barrel of domestic oil we can get our hands on, begin using our vast coal reserves with both intelligence and innovation, and begin shifting our sights to the one sure source that will carry us through the next decades—nuclear energy.”
The Pink Flamingo was the third person to support Sarah Palin, a year before she was John McCain’s VP pick. The Pink Flamingo is still upset over the way the left and Obama’s minions lied about her. Fortunately she was defended by every decent Republican and the far right. Now, though, the Far Right has created a hate machine, prompted by the likes of Glenn Beck and those lovely nutty little Tea Party People.
If you are one of the elect (use the Calvinist definition) then you are “Pure” and you will be defended by the far right. If you are not one of the chose, then you are to be destroyed.
Evidently only the “elect” are worthy of being defended. The Far Right and some “regular” conservatives are doing to Lindsey what was done to Sarah Palin. Only they are reveling in the lies and the mischief.
What is the difference between the two sides? Is there any difference between the far right and the far left other than their ideology? Their hate is obviously the same.
The other day Lindsey was censored by the Charleston County GOP Executive Committee. On the surface it looks lethal. Below the surface, well if you think there’s a snotty little Ron Paul Bot thingie going on, well, there is. Naturally SC’s libertarian, trouble-making, Republican-hating Ron Paul living FTS is just plain crowing about this.
They are censuring Lindsey because he is doing something 72% of voters in South Carolina want. Funny, who knew the Charleston County GOP was against energy independence?
There has been a pitched battle within South Carolina, as in many other states, where Ron Paul’s idiotic followers have been trying to take over the state GOP apparatus. They basically control Greenville County, and have been making inroads in Charleston. What you see going on in South Carolina is being repeated throughout the nation, as those who worship Ron Paul attempt to marginalize NORMAL Republicans. They are now planning to censure Lindsey state wide – for behaving like Reagan. Who know – being a Reagan Republican would be the kiss of death in this strange new world of purity.
SC former GOP Chair Kanton Dawson has been quick to defend Lindsey.
“…The former party chair also noted that Graham’s work brokering a compromise to maintain the filibuster in the Senate (which was much bemoaned by conservatives when it happened in 2005) now seemed downright prescient. “I give Lindsey his due,” Dawson said. “He said, ‘Guys, let me tell you, we aren’t always going to be in charge and we will be real sorry if we change these rules.’ And he was right.” Memories in conservative circles are short, however. And Graham currently is a target of choice for much of the tea-party crowd. Graham’s best friend in the Senate is John McCain, another Republican pol who took a bit of pride in rankling his own party’s leadership.
“We have two U.S Senators in South Carolina who will balance each other out. We have Jim DeMint who will always be a conservative,” said Dawson. “And we have Lindsey. Lindsey marches to the beat of a different drum. He is of the McCain camp variety for sure.
“If you look under the dictionary, ‘South Carolina Maverick’ there is Lindsey’s picture,” Dawson added. “Lindsey is from a state where center right is not a comfortable place to be but I understand what he is saying.”…”
Joe Wilson appears to be one of the few conservative Republicans who is stepping up to defend Lindsey from this pathetic onslaught of Ron Paul Bot stupidity. You might take notice that Jim DeMint is silent.
“…Lindsey Graham has been a great leader for our state and party. I appreciate everything he has done for me and his tireless work in helping Republicans at all levels of government. He’s a team player. Ronald Reagan always said that people who agree with you 80 percent of the time should be considered a good friend. Reagan was a wise man and if we want to build a strong, vibrant Republican Party we should follow his advice….”
The Atlantic sees it this way:
“…Graham is a political pragmatist. He’s not a moderate in the mold of Sens. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME)–he’s more conservative than they are–but he seems to enjoy bucking the pressure to conform to conservative norms, sort of in the vein of his close friend, John McCain. He freely takes jabs at anti-Obama protesters and some of the purity-driven facets of the conservative movement….”
Something is very wrong with this picture. The right is being duped into a bunch of lies told by people who are out to destroy Lindsey. I gather Glenn Beck, a professed Libertarian, is now calling the shots for the GOP? Then there are the nasty little white supremacists and Conservative Party people who demand purity over at VDare – they also hate Lindsey. Are you starting to see a pattern here?
Let’s be honest – we’re dealing with a bunch of people who are out to destroy the GOP and are out to destroy our country. There’s no other logical explanation.
Lindsey is a patriot and one of our staunchest supporters of the US military. Maybe that’s one reason the Ron Paul Bots and Losertarians don’t like him. They don’t give a rip about protecting this country or supporting our military.
The far right is ignoring the leadership role Lindsey is taking against ObamaCare. Funny thing, but I thought the Tea Party “patriots?” were against ObamaCare. I guess they hate Lindsey more than they do ObamaCare.
Funny how irrational the Ron Paul Bot Tea Party “partiots” are. They are demanding purity or a purge. The same kind of people took over the country of France once upon a time. Then they simply murdered people they disliked. I’m sure they only want to murder the political careers of anyone who disagrees with them. If they were liberals, every radio talking head would be denouncing them as despots and tyrants. Funny how it is when they’re on the “other side”. Now they are patriots?
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson detested one another – but they worked together to achieve a common goal. Then again, like Lindsey, they were reasonable, educated men who understood the value of compromise. The only way the Declaration of Independence was ever signed was because good, reasonable, educated men knew how to compromise.
It’s too bad the Tea Party patriots? can’t claim the same thing. There is nothing reasonable, logical, or educated about them. They, and the Ron Paul Bots, and their Losertarian dupes are nothing but populist satraps, determined to destroy everything that is great about this nation.
Not in a million years!
