John Ferling has a fascinating article in the Smithsonian Magazine about some of the myths of the American Revolution. The Pink Flamingo likes the article, which points out why George Washington was so great – he knew his personal failings.
Ferling also touches on how the militia in the South probably won the war, or at least gave us a fighting chance. Funny thing, no one really paid attention to the war in the south until Mel Gibson’s The Patriot. The Battle at Cowpens was the changing point of the Revolutionary War. It is popular to make a big deal about how the war was something that came out of the north, with all this Tea Party “patriot” talk, but people like the Swamp Fox are the ones who gave us a real fighting chance for freedom!
