Enough Is Enough Already Yet – We Have Lost Our National Dignity

The Pink Flamingo has a big mouth.  I suffer from foot in mouth disease.  Well, here goes nothing….

Pardon my language but why the H – E – Double Toothpick were t-shirts given out at the Memorial Pep Rally To Salvage Obama’s Poll Numbers?

While I am chewing on my foot for supper, why do people who have never met a person leave memorials of flowers and candles?   Why are signs left?  I know it is tacky to mention, but the only person it really helps is the one who leaves them,  hoping they will be seen.  It is touching, moving, and what good is it?

Just asking….

My heart goes out to the people who have had their lives disrupted and ruined by the actions of a madman.  When I think of the life that should have been with such a precious child, my eyes fill with tears.  I am crushed for the good neighbor who just wanted to help a little kid (the way so many of us do).  I think maybe my heart goes out to her more than anyone else.  I’ve worked with kids for so long, if something happened to one while under my supervision, I don’t think I could survive the incident.

I am disgusted by the fact that the shooter’s parents appear to have never sought help for their seriously disturbed son.  As mentioned yesterday, The Pink Flamingo has an acquaintance who has an offspring who suffers from paranoid-schizophrenia.   I did some further checking into the story.  According to my mother, our friend went above and beyond, to get her child involuntarily committed after she made threats against individuals.  The task was done even though this person has a spouse who is ill, etc.  There were no excuses, only action.  It is more and more apparent that there was a very troubled home-lifeThat is NOT an excuse.  If nothing more, Loughner had enough brushes with the law over marijuana to warrant parental concern!

That’s it.

No more on the above subject.

It is obvious we are dealing with a mad-man, to put it succinctly.

What has followed is just as insane.

MEMORIAL PEP RALLY TO SALVAGE OBAMA’S POLL NUMBERS

The “memorial” pep rally was the most disgusting thing I’ve had the misfortune to see in a very long time.  A Pink Flamingo friend and reader emailed, asking why the Dems always turned these memorials into something rather strange.

TPM

The Pink Flamingo has a theory about these Dem memorials.  They are attended by a heck of a lot of students and the party loyal.  We all know (snark alert) that more Republicans attend church than Dems.  Perhaps they just don’t know how to act.

A memorial should be a somber affair, not a t-shirt distribution point complete with soda, popcorn, beer, hotdogs, and giant foam fingers.

Why were the AG there?  I can understand a former governor, but not the AG.  I’m surprised Sheriff Joe wasn’t trying to hog the stage.

There was no dignity.

FYI – If The Pink Flamingo ever meets my end in a national crises thingie, please DO NOT allow me to be memorialized with a bunch of Democrats.

Take this  headline from the Daily Caller:

The Daily Caller

From Palmetto Morning:

“…NEEDS A NARRARATOR — Gun rights advocates and right-wing radio talkers have accused their critics of exploiting the massacre in Tucson, Ariz., for political gain. Firearms control activists have responded to the Saturday shooting by decrying the right’s increasingly mainstream theme of “Second Amendment” solutions to “government tyranny” and Sarah Palin’s online 2010 campaign map, which featured gun-sight cross hairs over targeted districts. Mental health experts, cautioning against stigmatizing those with treatable disorders, have used the tragedy to highlight failings in the nation’s mental health system. And everyone, it seems, has been wringing his hands over that pesky First Amendment and its protections for even the ugliest, most incendiary barkers among us. Control of what Douglas Kellner calls the post-tragedy “spectacle” has definitely been up for grabs…”

The Daily Caller

Where does it all stop?  The Pink Flamingo has  heard from several of her associates over the course of Wednesday evening.  We are all disgusted by what Sarah Palin is doing.

Has she become a media whore?

Has Sarah Palin become the female version of Barack Obama and Bill Clinton demanding it all be about her all the time?  When a person does that, well, they have become the consummate politician.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had just about enough of all of this.

  1. I ran screaming away from the TV when Napolitano lumbered up to the microphone accompanied by wild (and wildly inappropriate) cheering. Utterly grotesque, the whole thing. Who was the Indian with the feather – I muted the sound during that rather long seance or whatever it was.

My husband lasted up till the point where O-Jesus humbly described his first post-presidential miracle — in which Ms. Giffords opened her eyes right after “we” laid hands upon her…

Yes, Palin has joined the union of Celebrity Media Hos. Heck, that was her obvious choice when she quit as Alaska Guv’ship. She has the money to make all the vilification worthwhile, I suppose. But I had hoped she might have slightly higher ambitions… I guess when you figure out how easy it is in America to make big $$ by being a freak or a jackass or a flamethrower, it is very tempting to just stay low to the ground and rake in the dough.

  2. I guess I’ll chew on my foot awhile too. I thought the so called Memorial Service was a three ring circus complete with Buffalo Bill.( I once taught high school for awhile and people would be surprised at the length parents will go to defend their children’s bad behavior. I wish Sarah Palin would stay out of the spotlight. She and Jim DeMint are not among my favorites.)

  3. The University gave out the tee-shirts to promote a spirit of togetherness, to lessen the political divide and violent rhetoric that created this toxic climate.

You may have noticed that many right-wing pundits – even Glen Beck – praised Obama’s speech.

  4. I disagree.

They could have handed them out afterward. It had absolutely no class. I thought the behavior of the crowd was deplorable and ignorant. Their behavior was so pathetic it detracted from Obama’s speech. It sounded like a pep rally.

Somewhere, somehow, people need to learn some manners and learn how to be have (right and left). It doesn’t matter who people are, having manners, some dignity, and knowing how to behave, which fork to use, and how to properly interact with people is important to one’s eventual success in life.

The message was ruined by the behavior of the crowd and those t-shirts. One can celebrate life and have dignity and not pass out a t-shirt. Then again I detest t-shirts and think they should be banned unless someone is painting the house or washing the car.

There’s a line from My Fair Lady. “The French don’t care what you do as long as you pronounce it properly.” I am beginning to feel the same way about manners, proper dress, and behavior.

Sorry, it’s one of my soap boxes.

Oh, and I detest jeans, and baseball caps worn anywhere but on the athletic field. I think men who wear hats at the table (unless they are cowboy hats and there are rules to wearing cowboy hats) ought to be taken out and blasted with a fire-hose. We have become a nation of pigs, slobs, and poorly behaved jerks.

My complaints have nothing to do with politics and everything to do with behavior.
