Cold War Chickens Coming Home to Roost, Lindsey, and Leadership

“...I’m glad we are finally doing something, I don’t know how many people have died as we wait to do something,” said Graham, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. “Thank God for strong women in the Obama administration.

“I don’t know what finally got the president to act, but I am very worried that we are taking the backseat rather than a leadership role,” Graham said. “The British and the French have been great … President [Barack] Obama is talking about limited action of days. Gadhafi is not the legitimate leader of Libya – he’s an international criminal – he should be investigated by Attorney General [Eric] Holder for his actions in Pan Am, we should isolate this regime.

“We used to relish leading the Free World – now it’s almost like leading the Free World is an inconvenience,” he said. “I want to be a good partner; I want the Arab world – young Arabs and young Iranians – to see us as a strong effective partner for their hopes and dreams of being free.

“And I think the president has caveated this way too much – it’s almost like it’s a nuisance – this is a great opportunity to replace a tyrannical dictator,” Graham continued. “We should seize the moment and talk about replacing him – not talking about how limited we will be.”…”

It is all about leadership, libertarians, the Cold War, Reagan, and just a little bit of real leadership.  The other evening, while watching the rhetoric finally reach a boil about Libya, The Pink Flamingo had a fleeting thought that, as in Lebanon, we may be dealing with another mess Reagan did not clean up on his watch.

I know, I am committing heresy to admit this, but, then I realized the world was much different in those days.  The Pan Am Bombing may be a cheap shot since it happened at the end of his tenure. Then I remembered it was not about Islamic terror, but the final battles of the Cold War.  We propped up dictators and the Soviets propped up dictators.  In many ways we are now paying those good old days.

There are several things at work here.  First, is the fact that Barack Obama has the leadership skills of my toy poodle.  The only one in his Administration who has any courage is Hillary Clinton!

“…thank God for strong women in the Obama administration…” Lindsey Graham

We have a POTUS who doesn’t even have the courage to use an air-craft carrier!

Second, we are in a battle with libertarian isolationists like the egomania of the demigod Ron Paul, who want to take over the country and destroy our security and standard of living.  Third, we are constantly forced to put up with conservative revisionists who have no grasp of history. Fourth, we are dealing with Republicans who are pandering for the upcoming nomination process. Fifth, we are dealing with Republicans who are completely brow-beaten by the tea parties to the point where they are destroying themselves.

Let’s deal with the second and third problem first.  The libertarian tea party types worship the “Founders” to the point where they are almost creating a new religion for them.  They are parroting material to them that has been revised to prove a point.  They have no grasp of history of actual provable facts of history.

  1. They worship Jefferson
  2. They are isolationists
  3. They have this absurd theory the at the Founders were isolationists
  4. They don’t know much about history
  5. They either do not know or care that the irony of the situation is about Tripoli and Jefferson
  6. Thomas Jefferson launched the first War on Terror in 1801
  7. There’s a little military ditty that highlights that affair

    From the Halls of Montezuma
    To the shores of Tripoli
    We fight our country’s battles
    In the air, on land, and sea;
    First to fight for right and freedom
    And to keep our honor clean;
    We are proud to claim the title
    Of United States Marine.

    Our flag’s unfurled to every breeze
    From dawn to setting sun;
    We have fought in every clime and place
    Where we could take a gun.
    In the snow of far-off Northern lands
    And in sunny tropic scenes;
    You will find us always on the job —
    The United States Marines.

    Here’s health to you and to our Corps
    Which we are proud to serve;
    In many a strife we’ve fought for life
    And never lost our nerve.
    If the Army and the Navy
    Ever look on Heaven’s scenes,
    They will find the streets are guarded
    By United States Marines.

Unlike our libertarian leaning, hand wringing, our best days are behind us, the end is hear, isolationists, The Pink Flamingo has a good deal of confidence in our Armed Forces.  I have no confidence in The Golfer in Chief, who is abjectly incompetentAJ Strata feels that this may rally terrorists against us.  The Pink Flamingo sees no reason to use this as an excuse to not to take a stand against Qaddafi.  Heck, they use everything as an excuse to rally against us.  I can’t see fear of their actions turning us into a bunch of cowards.  It doesn’t matter with them, we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

It is about leadership.

“…“I don’t know what finally got the president to act, but I am very worried that we are taking a backseat rather than a leadership role,” Graham said on Fox News Sunday…”

“…Graham, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said that this is an opportunity to get rid of Libyan leader Moammar Qadhafi and finally try him for his role in atrocities like Pan Am Flight 103, the Lockerbie bombing.

He should be branded for what he is,” Graham said. “Replace this international outlaw sooner rather than later.”…”

This nation has currently has very little real leadership.  There are few me like John McCain and Lindsey Graham.  Instead we are subjected to petty little cowards who are more interested in hearing themselves talk and counting their own polling points than it is about attempting to govern.  It is about 2012.  It is about the mess left over from the Cold War.

On Chris Wallace on Sunday, Lindsey committed a Ronald Reagan when dared to suggest that the leadership of Russia and China was not much better than Libya, and despotic.  Well darn the man, daring to act like a leader when we now have a nation of petty little wimps.

How dare he open his mouth and commit verbal accuracy, and factual truth!  Mercy, we simply cannot allow someone like Lindsey to be a leader.  That doesn’t make Ron Paul look very good does it?  If Lindsey is one of the few real leaders in this country, what does that make those who pander to the tea parties?

I guess that makes him a …. (gasp) statesman!

  1. It must be frustrating to try to work with Obama. He has had no experience and in my opinion he just wasn’t ready to be president. In a major crisis he goes off to Brazil with his wife, two kids, his mother in law etc. He made it a real latin American vacation at taxpayers expense. He thinks it’s fine just to let Hilary Clinton make all the major decisions. With all due respect for Senator Lindsey Graham, I have some mixed feelings about getting involved in this crisis. Are we spreading ourselves too thin? All we need is another war. I don’t like to see us get involved. I wish we could have stayed out of it. We are supposed to be broke, but I guess they can always find 100 million dollars a week for another war. They will just have to cut more benefits for the poor and the elderly. Sometimes I wonder if we would be so willing to protect oppressed citizens if there were no oil in that country. Also, I wonder how long the British and the French will be there. Lindsey thinks they have been wonderful, but when we get bogged down, will they just pull out and leave us? I guess I have a bad case of war weariness.
