The Big Girl Conservative Club v.The Glam Girls of the GOP

Not all conservative women are treated badly by the world in general.  There are those who are in power, or have been in power who abjectly shame the likes of Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Nikki Haley, Jan Brewer, Susana Martinez, Sharon Angle, and Christine O’Donnell.

There are conservative women who have been recognized by the world stage as great leaders.  The problem is they aren’t Tea Party Conservatives.  They aren’t cute, play with their hair, or are ethically challenged.  They are serious leaders who know how to play hard-ball with the big boys, and how to win.

It’s not about being a woman in politics, it’s about being a leader.  If you are a true leader, you need not stress your gender. You simply get out there and play ball, not with your hair.

Have you ever wondered why women like Margaret Thatcher and Angela Merkel get such well deserved respect and women like Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann get none?  It’s quite simple.  Just watch a tape of Thatcher or catch a video wrap up of the presser Merkel had at the White House.

The Guardian

They’re not cute.
They don’t giggle.
They don’t simple.
They don’t use pathetic terms like “lame stream media”.
They don’t mangle simple historical facts.
There is no glamor.
There is no silly.
They don’t cry when insulted.
They are adult enough to admit when they are wrong.
They don’t do political stunts to get attention.
They’re not fashionable.
They don’t demand attention because they are the opposite gender.
They act like they have an IQ in triple digits and know how to use it.
They face their scandals head on like and adult.

Instead they project abject competence.

Nikki Haley is already in trouble in SC for attempting to take far too much power.

Susana Martinez is proving to be a petty, thin-skinned, incompetent twit.

Michele Bachmann can’t get her history straight.

Jan Brewer has made a disaster of Arizona.

There are a few idiot conservatives who are furious with Margaret Thatcher because she has stated she shall not meet with Sarah Palin. What the idiots are not comprehending is the fact that Baroness Thatcher is dealing with some very serious memory loss.  She is suffering from either dementia or Alzheimer’s.

“…Margaret Thatcher, the former British prime minister, is well respected by Sarah Palin, but it doesn’t appear that the feeling is mutual. Recently the former Alaska governor revealed plans to take her “One Nation” road show across the pond next month, with a stop in London as she makes her way to Sudan.

“I am going to Sudan in July and hope to stop in England on the way. I am just hoping Mrs. Thatcher is well enough to see me as I so admire her,” Palin told Britain’s Sunday Times in an article titled “Reloaded and on a Mrs. T mission: the Palins are coming to Britain!”

But the woman affectionately dubbed the Iron Lady isn’t interested in meeting with Sarah Barracuda during the hockey mom’s trip.

“Lady Thatcher will not be seeing Sarah Palin. That would be belittling for Margaret. Sarah Palin is nuts,” an unnamed “ally” told the Guardian….”

If you have been following The Pink Flamingo, you should know that my father was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease.  My grandfather Froehlich suffered from dementia after a series of small strokes, which is what is described as having happened to Baroness Thatcher.

This is why Sarah Palin will NEVER be the leader Baroness Thatcher is.

It is also the reason why the Glam Girls of the GOP will never be able to achieve the greatness of a Merkel of a Thatcher.  They don’t have the class.  They don’t have the maturity.  They don’t have the intellectual capacity.

It is one thing to be cute and giggle, to pose for a camera, to pop up in front of a historic site and mangle history, then pander your way out of it, and another thing to make history.  You can’t to the former if you don’t have the courage to admit that you are not perfect.

None of the Glam Girls of the GOP even have the remotest idea of what true leadership is.  They all fail, miserably. They also do not have the capacity for greatness that Baroness Thatcher has and the historic decision making abilities of Angela Merkel.

None of them have the capacity to achieve greatness, even if it is thrust upon them.  To achieve greatness one must transcend party ideology.  One must be able to see both sides of the story.  One must show leadership.

As a woman who has spent most of my life involved in GOP politics, I am sickened by the Glam Girls of the GOP.  They are hurting the process.  They are hurting the role of women in politics.  They are going to end up ruining things for all of us.

Maybe that’s what they want.

Then again, when you compare the Glam Girls of the GOP to Baroness Margaret Thatcher and Angela Mirkel, you realize that the press isn’t the enemy.  The Glam Girls of the GOP are their own worst enemy.  Unfortunately there is little hope for them.

  1. Preach it, sister. They might be wrong about this or that, but they’re impressive human beings and leaders.

I do wish the GOP could dispense with the label “conservative”. The word is meaningless without talking about what is to be conserved, just as progress is meaningless without talking about a goal.

In his book _Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance_ Robert Pirsig said:
“‘What’s new?’ is an interesting and broadening eternal question, but one which, if pursued exclusively, results only in an endless parade of trivia and fashion, the silt of tomorrow.

I would like, instead, to be concerned with the question ‘what is best?’, a question which cuts deeply rather than broadly, a question whose answers tend to move the silt downstream.”

And with Pirsig I would like to ask “what is best?” rather than (sarcastically) “what is old?”

“The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of Conservatives is to prevent mistakes from being corrected. Even when the revolutionist might himself repent of his revolution, the traditionalist is already defending it as part of his tradition. Thus we have two great types — the advanced person who rushes us into ruin, and the retrospective person who admires the ruins. He admires them especially by moonlight, not to say moonshine. Each new blunder of the progressive or prig becomes instantly a legend of immemorial antiquity for the snob. This is called the balance, or mutual check, in our Constitution.”
    – GK Chesterton, Illustrated London News, 1924

It seems to me the Popes, beginning explicitly with Leo XIII, have got it right and Chesterton, Belloc, Penty, Dorothy Day, Kelso, Adler and Schumacher have described at varying levels of detail how a better societal organization might look. What is not conserved however, is philosophical Liberalism and Individualism — both cornerstones of the GOP (and the tea party) mentality.
