Our Sick Society: Enough Said About Anthony Weiner

The Pink Flamingo wishes to state that I find Andrew Breitbart to be the libertarian version of the National Enquirer or The Globe without their ethics.  If he were a liberal,  not the darling of the tea party right, we would be disclaiming his work.  He is tawdry.

The other day a friend of mine was bemoaning the loss of standards in this country.  We have become dirty.  Our society is coarse, filthy, and deviant.  She had recently returned from several weeks in England.  She said for the first time in her life she was ashamed to be an American.

The Anthony Weiner story says it all.  Nothing is off limits.  Good taste is something for the Food Channel.  Lady-like behavior is something to be laughed at, unfortunately.  Locker-room humor is now something acceptable for coffee hour after Sunday Eucharist.

This is where I draw the line.

I find the entire episode terribly revealing about our culture.  First, there is no privacy.  Second, nothing is off limits.  Third, no one cares.  Fourth, there is a double standard when it comes to Democrats and Republicans.

Like I told my brother last week, I don’t like this story.  I find it rude, crude, and socially unacceptable.  I am also not one bit shocked.  Anthony Weiner is a Democrat.  I expecting nothing more nor nothing less of them, not in today’s climate.  He will continue to get away with what ever he so desires to get away with because he is a Democrat.  They have no standards.  None are expected.

I’m sorry, but I have standards.  I am not discussing the crude aspects of this tale.  I am only interested in the cultural implications, and they are disgusting.  My friend wanted to know what is wrong with this world.  The story of Anthony Weiner is what is wrong with America, in a microcosm.

It is now perfectly acceptable for young people, beautiful young women to deface themselves with tattoos. I find tattoos repulsive, on both men and women.  They are dark, dank, and dirty.  The trend for body piercings is the same thing.  If you will deface yourself, what else will you do.  Then again, as long as the individual is cute and thin, it doesn’t matter.

Nothing really matters in our culture.  There are no limits.  There are no requirements for good behavior.  Morals are a thing of the past.  Standards are for measurements and not people.  All that matters is one’s own pursuit of personal happiness, not matter what that is and no matter who is hurt in the process.

Anything goes.

Sorry, but there are times when we need to say enough is enough.   There are times when I am physically sickened by what I see. There are times when I am so disgusted I don’t know what to say.  I am repulsed by the lack of physical standards in dress.  We are a nation of slobs and it is getting worse.  Do people simply get out of bed in the morning, slide into filthy jeans, nasty athletic shoes, and a ratty old t-shirt and call themselves dressed?

Our society has become coarse, crude, and accepting of things that just a few years ago would never even be considered acceptable.  Language is deplorable.  Certain words I intensely dislike are used, any time and any place.  People no longer dress well, but look like slobs.  There are no morals nor moral standards.  One cannot criticize the people who attend church looking like they were out to dine at a MacDonalds near you.

Maybe this is the problem.  We no longer care what we say, what we do, or how we look.  Behavior doesn’t matter.  Morality no longer matters – unless you are a Republican trying to get away with the lack of them.

I don’t expect anything out of a Democrat.  Just don’t expect to see anything additionally discussed about Anthony Weiner from The Pink Flamingo.  I find the whole nasty discussion absolutely tasteless.  While the name of this blog may be The Pink Flamingo, I do know the difference between taste, tacky, and trash.  Anthony Weiner is trash.

The discussion about him is trash.

Enough said.

  1. My first reaction to the Weiner story was that if our congressmen don’t have anything more important to do in Washington than to sex text women all over the country, then maybe we should start balancing the budget by taking a good look at their salaries. Perhaps we should consider a reduction in pay if they have too much free time on their hands. It is embarrassing to all of us when a US congressman doesn’t have the savoir faire of a tenth grade student. The more I read about this case, the more I’m convinced that the man is sick. All I can do is remember him in my prayers. I hope he will resign because his judgment cannot be trusted. He is dangerous. If he uses such poor judgment in his personal life, how can he be trusted to make important decisions concerning the welfare of the country? The pathetic thing about Weiner is that he was in a position to inspire. He can no longer do that. It is true that the country has sunk to a new level of immorality. I don’t know what it is going to take to force people out of their ego-trances. The world is not only out there, it is also within us. Jesus prayed saying, “I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the Evil One.” As fallen human beings we all have a tendency toward sin and self centeredness. Jesus does not want to condemn us, he wants to heal us. We must have faith that He will keep us safe. He will never abandon us.

  2. After reading your post, I recall the days when a lady did not go shopping in New Orleans any day of the week unless she was dressed appropriately and that included hat and gloves. Jeans, shorts and pants outfits were not considered the proper attire for church or for shopping. We went to church wearing our Sunday best, never without hats and gloves. Sometimes, when I see what people are wearing to church today, I’m glad my grandmother is not here to see it.

  3. In my part of the country a mantilla could be substituted for a hat for Sunday masses and masses during the week. Most women wore black lace, young girls, white lace. They were beautiful! How I miss the old days!……….BREAKING NEWS! It has been announced that Rep. Weiner is taking a leave of absence in order to seek treatment. Thanks be to God! I pray that the One who guides the steps of those who go astray will get him the help he needs and grant him peace.
