As Christians, we should be ashamed of ourselves. The Pink Flamingo has been complaining that the very people who should be praying for our country and our leaders are the ones who have literally thumbed their nose at Christ and embraced a philosophy that became the basis for the Book of Satan.
This is the problem. The men and women who were the praying, Bible toting base of the GOP have deserted Christ. They are now followers of the tea parties, Rand, and her apostles Paul. When something like this happens, it is terribly destructive to the very soul of our nation. The tea party “patriots” like to parrot that we were founded as a “God” fearing nation, but their very action says otherwise. There is nothing remotely “Godly” about the embrace of Rand.
“…Rand Paul is an unlikely fundamentalist hero. He was a rebel in his days at deeply religious Baylor University, apparently forming some sort of half-sarcastic, anti-religious student group. He’s a libertarian who quotes Ayn Rand and hasn’t denied his past drug use. On culture war issues he prefers to dodge rather than charge. In many respects Paul looks like the sort of Republican that the religious right has tried to purge from the party.
Yet Paul’s 2010 primary campaign against a well-established Republican drew endorsements from Sarah Palin, Jim DeMint, and even the Concerned Women for America. The lock was in late in the primary campaign when James Dobson at Focus on the Family very publicly switched his endorsement to Paul.
So how have the high priests of Christian fundamentalism found such enthusiastic common cause with a prophet of Aqua Buddha? Why are evangelicals overwhelmingly the largest block of Tea Party supporters?
This poorly understood and carefully limited alliance of libertarians and the religious right can be partly traced to a strategic shift by Paul Weyrich during the Clinton years. It helps explain why competence has diminished as a priority and some Republicans are comfortable promoting policies that seem dangerous to the point of recklessness.
Weyrich, the architect of modern American fundamentalism, generated some surprise when he declared in 1999 that the movement had failed. Many fundamentalists at the time were feeling euphoric. The electoral wave of ’94 had given evangelicals effective control of the GOP infrastructure across large swaths of the country. Though they had failed to defeat Bill Clinton, their power in Congress and state legislatures was steadily growing….”
If Pat Robinson thinks the GOP candidates have gone too far to pander to the extreme right and the tea parties, we’re in very deep you know what!
Reese Howell was a minister, teacher, and the founder of the Bible College of Wales. He literally wrote the book on intercessory prayer. He is one of the ministers who helped organize prayer for England during World War II.
“…Right now we could be in a moment like the battle for Dunkirk in World War II where “…Everything looked like certain disaster for England and the allied troops.”
In his journal entry on May 22, Reese Howells said, “ The world is in a panic today and certainly we would be too unless we were sure the Lord has spoken to us. The destiny of England will be at stake today and tomorrow. In a battle such as we are in today, you cannot trust in a meeting or in feelings. We must go back to what God has told us. There is an enemy that we must keep in check until God does the big thing.”
Then on May 30, Reese Howells wrote,“From a worldly standpoint there in no hope of victory but God has said it…Instead of bad news about our soldiers, if He is on the field of battle, He can change that and make it verygood news.” Again on May 17th Reese Howells said to his intercessors, “God will not do a bit more through you than you have faith for…You are more responsible for this victory today than themen on that battle field. You must be dead to everything else but this fight. Because you havecommitted yourself, you are responsible.”Then on May 18, he declares,“I want to fight with this enemy again this weekend as if it were the end of civilization. You don’t leave anything to chance. Don’t allow these men at the front to do more than you do here.”Norman Grubb, author of Reese Howells Intercessor then writes, “How thankful we are that God had this company of hidden intercessors whose lives were on the altar day after day as they stood in the gap for the deliverance of Brittan.”…”
If the US faced a horrible event today, we would be lost. We would be lost because people have become so self-involved and so blinded by literal hatred of anyone who does not agree with them politically that they would rather see the nation destroyed. It doesn’t matter what is going on, what a Christian believes, they just don’t love this nation enough to pray for people they do not like.
It is now quite acceptable to hate, defame, denigrate, and treat the opposition – within your own party like dirt. Somehow I just don’t think this is quite “Christian”. It is all about hatred and getting one’s way, no matter who you destroy.
Christian is as Christian does. The heart of the GOP no longer bothers with Christ. When the GOP no longer follows Christ, but a darker philosophy, the I truly fear for our nation. We will be brought down, not by the liberal Democrats, but by Christians who have turned their back on Christ.
God help us all!
