This is one of those posts The Pink Flamingo has waited years to make. I am enjoying every minute of it.
There is a God and He is Republican.
Right Wing bigot and anti-Hispanic extremist Russell Pearce is now history! He’s a FOX news tea party darling. And, now he has a new title L – O – S – E – R!
This is what happens when people give the GOP a bad name. They eventually lose, in a most humiliating manner. This is a blow to the tea parties, anti-immigration freaks, and Jan Brewer. One can only wonder how FOX is going to play this one.
“….The Senate President of Arizona and author of the state’s hard-line laws against illegal immigration lost a recall election seen as a bellwether on “extreme” politics Republican Russell Pearce, lost by 53 percent to 45 percent with all precincts reported, according to the Maricopa County Elections office. Pearce, 64, was defeated by Jerry Lewis, a Republican school administrator who has said he opposes Pearce’s enforcement-only approach to immigration policy. “There is a deep dissatisfaction in Arizona for what is viewed as politics in the extreme,” said Earl de Berge of the Phoenix-based Behavior Research Center, a nonpartisan polling company. Pearce “symbolizes a very hard-nosed view on conservative policies.”
The loss will show moderates that they can win in the state, de Berge said. “It is going to be a sea change in Arizona,” he said. Lewis will serve the remainder of Pearce’s term through 2012. He will be required to run again in November of next year if chooses to seek re-election. Pearce, the first state officeholder in Arizona to face a recall election, became prominent nationally after lawmakers passed an immigration law in 2010 that sparked national boycotts and was emulated by Georgia, Alabama and other states….”
How’s that anti-immigration bigotry, neo-Nazi J. T. Ready huggin’ scum working out for you now?
Oh happy day!
“…As the self-proclaimed “Tea Party President,” Pearce’s national role as the figurehead for punitive immigration measures also turned the recall election into a referendum on the state’s notorious SB 1070 “papers, please” immigration law, which Pearce had made the hallmark of his legislative career.
According to the Maricopa County Recorder Elections Department, Republican moderate and SB 1070 opponent Jerry Lewis overcame the Pearce campaign’s series of dirty tricks and election war chest to win 53.4% to 45.3%. in a contest that divided the city’s influential Mormon Church.
“This is a huge shift,” said Randy Parraz, co-founder of the Citizens for a Better Arizona, which organized the recall drive in one of the most conservative districts in the state. “Russell Pearce is not only too extreme, but had remained untouched. This election shows that such extremist behavior will not be rewarded, and will be held accountable.”
Considered the de facto governor of Arizona, the seemingly invincible and right-wing extremist Pearce became the first state Senate president in American history to be thrown out of office in a recall election. Led by an inspiring citizens movement, Pearce’s downfall marks an extraordinary sea change in Arizona politics, especially in the areas of the changing electoral demographics and immigration reform policies. According to Parraz, the Citizens group registered more than 1,150 new voters in the district….”
The vote is even bigger. The Joe Arpaio machine lost big time there in Maricopa County. Greg Stanton, a Democrat, was just elected mayor of Phoenix. This is a massive repudiation of the anti-immigration hate machine. Is it possible now that Sheriff Joe could be next.
