Another fire department in Tennessee stood by and watch a family’s home burn to the ground to teach them a lesson. They had not paid their $75 fee. Should the fire department have stood by and allowed a family’s home to go up in flames?
I don’t give a rip what libertarians think. This is about right and wrong. If someone did not pay their $75 for police protection, should the cops stand by and let someone be murdered? If you did not pay the $75 to EMS, do they allow a person to drop dead with a heart attack?
Have you ever read the Firefighter’s Prayer? There is nothing in it about asking if the people they save have paid their protection money. Then read the comments about what people think of this. This country has lost something. This is the most pathetic, depressing story I’ve seen in a long time. All people can think about is money and a bottom line. We have crossed into some vile darkness in this country. People are responsible for paying taxes, etc. but you don’t allow someone’s life go up in flames to teach them a lesson. This is the second time they have done this.
This country was built, allegedly on helping one’s neighbors. You won’t see this sort of thing in Mayberry, or in a Norman Rockwell painting, or a Frank Capra movie. Instead, you would have seen a brave fire-fighter standing up to the mayor and trying to save the home. Reality is a mobile home is a firetrap and they probably could not have saved it, but that is not the point.
The point is how disgusted I am with the far libertarian right. I suspect one of the reasons the far libertarian right are defending these people is because the embody Your Tea Party At Work.
“...Obion County instead adopted a Tea Party-friendly policy which required individuals to pay a subscription fee on their own for fire protection. What resulted was the absurd scenario above, in which firefighters trained to do a job merely sat on the sidelines while a house burned down in front of them. Cranick says he does not blame the firefighters, but instead the county leaders who implemented the policy in question…”
Reality is the fact that libertarian ideals coupled with Ayn Rand corrupt and turn anything they touch into a festering puss-filled pimple waiting to be popped. They are cruel, cold-hearted, and those who once knew Christ, have had to turn their backs on His teachings in order to bow to Rand.
John Hawkins wrote:
“…Therein lies one of the biggest core differences between what liberals and conservatives believe. Conservatives believe society functions best when it rewards responsible people for doing the right thing. On the other hand, liberals believe society functions best when it rewards (or use helps if it makes you feel better) irresponsible people who’ve done the wrong thing….”
I seem to remember that John Hawkins claims to be a Christian. He might want to try reading Matthew 25:33-46. Oh, wait, the right no longer worships Christ. He has been exchanged for Ayn Rand, the person who inspired the Book of Satan.
34Then the king will say to those at his right hand, “Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
35for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
36I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”
37Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?
38And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing?
39And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?”
40And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
41Then he will say to those at his left hand, “You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;
42for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.”
44Then they also will answer, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?”
45Then he will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.”
46And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.’
Why do you let a family go homeless? What if they don’t have insurance? I would assume if the owner of the residence were related to someone “important” they would have received help.
There are some who say it is about principle. If you don’t pay the shake-down fee, you don’t get help. I can’t stomach this. I have lived in rural areas all my life, and NEVER have I known of something so barbarian. Then again, when the local RFD would come around doing their shake-down fund-raiser, we always made large donations.
The Pink Flamingo lives in a major fire area. You don’t let homes burn. If one burns, with our wind, another could burn. Here, as in Oconee County where I lived in South Carolina, our volunteer firefighters would go the extra mile to save a structure. Here in New Mexico you help your neighbor. In some isolated communities, EVERYONE is expected to be part of the fire-fighting effort. Last spring, an entire community, including my home, nearly went up in flames in just a few hours. The firefighters were brought in from all over the state. They did not ask questions. This summer during the fire that raged behind my parents’ no questions were asked. It is not about money, it is about saving homes.
“…But that’s hard to stomach when you’ve just lost your home and everything you’ve worked for. “In an emergency, the first thing you think of, ‘Call 9-1-1,” homeowner Vicky Bell said. Firefighters came out. Bell said, “9-1-1 said they were in fact dispatched and they showed that they were on the scene.” But once on the scene, they only watched. “You could look out my mom’s trailer and see the trucks sitting at a distance,” Bell said. For Bell, that sight was almost as disturbing as the fire itself. “We just wished we could’ve gotten more out,” Bell said. It’s a controversial policy that we’ve dealt with before. If you live in the city, you get fire protection but if not, you have to pay the $75 fire protection fee each year. With this policy, the city makes no exceptions. “There’s no way to go to every fire and keep up the manpower, the equipment, and just the funding for the fire department,” Mayor David Crocker said. And Crocker said by now, everyone should know about the city’s fire policy. “After the last situation, I would hope that everybody would be well aware of the rural fire fees, this time,” Crocker said. Bell and her boyfriend admitted they were aware but thought this would never happen to them….”
When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage;
Give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child before it is too late
Or save an older person from the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout,
And quickly and efficiently to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me,
To guard my every neighbor and protect his property.
And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life;
Please bless with your protecting hand
my children and my wife.
This is why our country is falling apart. It isn’t because of Barack Obama and liberals, it is because the formerly “Christian” conservatives have sold their very souls to the inspiration for the Book of Satan. They have reached the point where they are abjectly corrupt. They are almost evil. They have caused people, who were once good and decent, to harden their hearts to the human condition and human frailty. Rand was a pathetic excuse of a human being, incapable of loving. She hated Christ. You can see her hatred of Christ and all things decent growing more powerful by the day…. God Help Us All!
