The Pink Flamingo thinks the GOP is playing this whole contraceptive thing all wrong. This is not a church-state thing. I have repeatedly said they are playing the game all wrong. They are missing the entire problem here. Listening on CSPAN to Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, earlier today, I realized what is up, and I’m right about it.
This is NOT about ramming something down the throat of the Catholic Church. This is about finding a way to turn contraceptives into a new entitlement and getting someone else to pay for it. Don’t get me wrong, I still think we’re seeing the opening salvo in the Obama campaign against Rick Santorum, but this is also about establishing a new entitlement.
Unfortunately, those mean and nasty Republicans in the House and Senate won’t let women have birth control for free, so they are making an exemption to allow any institute too opt out of birth control insurance.
Are Republicans simply born stupid, or do they become that way after stepping into the House and Senate?
The Dems are going to make this an anti-woman and anti-poor woman issue. According to Townsend, contraceptives cost a poor woman up to $600 a year, which studies have shown they will not spend. If they spend it, they don’t use it.
So wait – this is about providing FREE contraceptives to women who won’t pay for it themselves.
So, if it is given to them for free, they will appreciate it more.
Okay, I get it.
It’s just another liberal way to keep “poor” women from having children. They’re being thwarted with abortion, so this is the new attack.
IT IS A WOMAN’S RIGHT FOR FREE CONTRACEPTIVES
COME AN GET ‘EM
FREE TO ALL
Fight it as an entitlement, you idiots. Stop worrying about the church state thing – you are missing the story.
It is about providing free contraceptives to everyone – Brave New World!
Shut up about the morality issue and concentrate on the cost issue. How difficult is that? Oh, wait, we’re talking conservatives. They can’t shut up about the moral issue.
How the hell did we ever retake the House?
Every Republican who called into CSPAN discussed church-state. Not one of them picked up on the free for all entitlement mind-set. If we can’t stop this newest version of the nanny state from gobbling up more money, so that Obama can appeal to college students and his foundering base, we, as Republicans deserve to go home and stick our heads in the sand.
But, let someone pull a few strings, yell church and state, and everyone screams in one primordial chorus, ignoring the fact that if this is played correctly it can be stopped.
