PART II: Enough With the Far Right Muslim Hatred

This isn’t about religion. This is about very bad people who use any excuse, religion, politics, even a soccer game to do their evil deeds. There are some sick, dark twisted individuals who simply like hurting and destroying. It is not about their religion, race, nationality, gender, or even political affiliation. It is about evil.

In a rational and reasonable world, we would be able to look at people like Terry Jones for what they really are, sick, twisted individuals who are narcissistic sociopaths who will do nothing and stop at nothing to achieve their own agenda.

When do we stop hating Muslims for the criminal actions of a few perverted individuals? Why do Tea Partiers and “Republican” Libertarians have a tendency to utterly hate Muslims more than we normal individuals?

Why are is the right so out of their mind because Barack Obama – CHRISTIAN – is trying to diffuse an alarming situation created what what is obviously hate speech.  And, unfortunately, under our Constitution, even the worst expressions of hate are allowed.  Freedom is a two edged sword at times.  This is one of those times.  It doesn’t matter if good people have died.  That’s the price for jerks practicing their “freedom” of speech.

When does it become murder?

Then again, maybe some of this craziness may be backfiring.  Evidently, in many places, moderate Muslims are getting enough of the extremists and are standing up to them.  When this happens, Barack Obama and George W. Bush are the winners.  People who have instigated the violence are the losers.

Brian McLaren wrote:

“...Many sincere and good-hearted evangelicals have never yet had a real Muslim friend, and now they probably never will because their minds have been so prejudiced by Islamophobic broadcasts on so-called Christian television and radio.

Janet Parshall, for example, a popular talk show host on the Moody Radio Network, frequently hosts Walid Shoebat, a Muslim-evangelical convert whose anti-Muslim claims, along with claims about his own biography, are frequently questioned. John Hagee, a popular televangelist, also hosts Shoebat as an expert on Islam, as does the 700 Club.

Many Christian bookstores that (used to) sell my books, still sell books such as Paul Sperry’s “Infiltration: How Muslim Spies and Subversives Have Penetrated Washington” (Thomas Nelson, 2008). In so doing, they fuel conspiracy theories such as the ones U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, promoted earlier this year….”

So, when The Pink Flamingo saw this outlandish Breitbart headline, well, enough is enough.  This is the reason you have a two-part scream-fest against hate.  I’m sick of it.  As a Christian, I am insulted by this headline.  I defy anyone to prove this people, the ones who created the video, are Christians.  They may call themselves such, but are they?

Sorry, but this is a pile of sh*t, pure unadulterated sh*t.

“...The most troubling and Orwellian element in of all this is that the Administration’s lies are now becoming truths. As we saw in Pakistan and elsewhere yesterday, Obama’s scapegoating and calling unnecessary attention to this film appears to be turning into a self-fulfilling prophecy. How many millions of Muslims are hearing about the film that might not have if Obama didn’t need his Emmanuel Goldstein? Now that our government has ensured every Islamist radical on the planet knows about this film, how much easier is it for extremists to use it to foment chaos?…”

Charles Johnson has pegged this one.

Little Green Footballs

“…In May, “skinjob88” (88 is neo-Nazi code for “Heil Hitler”) gave Geller high praise on Stormfront: “In my country and the rest of Europe, [Muslims] are pushing for Islamification, they are killing good White teenagers and raping young White girls, they inter-marry and inter-breed with their family members. Don’t think for one minute the US is safe from Islam.” But the support wasn’t unanimous. One Stormfronter expressed anger that Geller seemed blind to the horrors of non-white races. In April, “Teutonic Beubonic” wrote: “She singles out Muslim immigrants in Europe for their uncivilized animal-like behavior and likeliness to commit crime, yet she refuses to mention anything about blacks or Latinos in the U.S. … Shame on her.”…”

Right Wing Watch

You cannot win over hearts and minds with pure hatred, the hatred spewed from corrupted, vile, evil, hate-filled individuals like Pam Geller, Robert Spencer, Daniel Pipes, Mark Steyn and anyone who goes along with them.

“...David Yerushalmi, 56, is the founder of the think tank the Society of Americans for National Existence, which first proposed legislation in 2007 to make adherence to Sharia “a felony punishable by 20 years in prison,”47 and is the general counsel for many of the think tanks and grassroots organizations in the Islamophobia network. The Anti-Defamation League reviewed Yerushalmi’s activities and concluded that he has a “record of anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant and anti-black bigotry.” In a 2006 essay titled “On Race: A Tentative Discussion,” Yerushalmi described “blacks as the most murderous of peoples.”

He is the general counsel for the Center for Security Policy and the co-author of CSP’s “Shariah: The Threat to America” report.50 He also serves as legal counsel for the anti-Muslim group Stop Islamization of America, led by Robert Spencer, whom we profile below, and Pamela Geller, whom we profile in the media chapter of our report, along with her influential blog, Atlas Shrugs. The Anti-Defamation League describes Stop Islamization of America as an “anti- Muslim group” that “promotes a conspiratorial anti-Muslim agenda under the guise of fighting radical Islam.” The organization was recently listed as a “hate
group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Yerushalmi also serves as general counsel for Stop the Madrassa: A Community Coalition, a New York City-based anti-Muslim right-wing grassroots organization that in 2007 attacked a New York City secular public school as a religious madrassa and Islamist front simply for teaching Arabic and the Arab culture. In fact, the school, Khalil Gibran International Academy, strived to “offer a rigorous, interdisciplinary curriculum using project-based learning and integrates an international theme with the study of the Arabic language.” In April 2011, the New York Department of Education announced the relocation of the school “due to long standing performance standards.” Many supporters of the school expressed outrage at the news because they believed the decision was tied to ongoing attacks on the school.

Yerushalmi also represents right-wing Christian groups. In December 2008, Yerushalmi represented the Thomas More Law Center, a non profit public interest law firm “dedicated to the defense and promotion of the religious freedom of Christians,” in a case defending the notorious Koran-burning Pastor Terry Jones. Yerushalmi also filed a suit against the federal government claiming its loan to American International Group, Inc., as part of the bailout of the global insurance giant amid the 2008 financial crisis, was illegal since the company had financial products that allegedly promoted Islam and were anti-Christian….”

You cannot win hearts and minds with this kind of hate. What has happened in Libya since Ambassador Stevens was killed is remarkable. It is a sign that we just might win this thing, after all.

“...Hundreds of protesters angry over last week’s killing of the U.S. ambassador to Libya stormed the compound of the Islamic extremist militia suspected in the attack, evicting militiamen and setting fire to their building Friday.

In an unprecedented show of public anger at Libya’s rampant militias, the crowd overwhelmed the compound of the Ansar al-Shariah Brigade in the center of the eastern city of Benghazi. Ansar al-Shariah fighters initially fired in the air to disperse the crowd, but eventually abandoned the site with their weapons and vehicles after it was overrun by waves of protesters shouting “No to militias.”

“I don’t want to see armed men wearing Afghani-style clothes stopping me in the street to give me orders, I only want to see people in uniform,” said Omar Mohammed, a university student who took part in the takeover of the site, which protesters said was done in support of the army and police….

For many Libyans, the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi was the last straw in one of the biggest problems Libya has faced since the ouster and death of longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi around a year ago – the multiple mini-armies that with their arsenals of machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades are stronger than the regular armed forces and police.

The militias, a legacy of the rag-tag popular forces that fought Gadhafi’s regime, tout themselves as protectors of Libya’s revolution, providing security where police cannot. But many say they act like gangs, detaining and intimidating rivals and carrying out killings.

Militias made up of Islamic radicals like Ansar al-Shariah are notorious for attacks on Muslims who don’t abide by their hardline ideology. Officials and witnesses say fighters from Ansar al-Shariah led the attack on the U.S. consulate, which killed Amb. Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

After taking over the Ansar compound, protesters then drove to attack the Benghazi headquarters of another Islamist militia, Rafallah Sahati. The militiamen opened fire on the protesters, who were largely unarmed. At least 20 were wounded, and there were unconfirmed witness reports of three protesters killed…”

Roll Call

“...Fairness & Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR) ranked Robert Spencer as the second leading Islamophobe in the country, losing out the number one position to his boss and financier David Horowitz. Former Nixon advisor Robert Crane calls out Spencer as “the principal leader…in the new academic field of Islam-bashing.” Even though Horowitz can be credited with funding the modern day online Crusade against Islam, it is Robert Spencer who fights on the online battlefield, attacking his Muslim foes and their liberal dhimmi allies. In order to bolster his credibility, Spencer and his allies not only claim that he is a scholar, but his own website touts him as “the acclaimed scholar of Islam”. Because these words are boldly emblazoned on his own site, we can only assume that he takes such claims seriously. It is thus fair game to call him to task for this.

His claims notwithstanding, Robert Spencer simply does not possess any scholarly credentials. To be seriously considered a scholar in the academic world in this day and age, one must at minimum possess some rudimentary academic education in the field in which one is claiming scholarship. In order to be considered a scholar, one must have published numerous peer-reviewed articles in reputable journals, the articles being subjected to rigorous critique by established authorities before being accepted. First year students in Ph.D. programs have published far more of such articles than Robert Spencer ever has. There is good reason for that: Spencer has published no such articles, contenting himself with reproducing work in non-academic and populist publications. Spencer does not even possess a Master’s Degree in anything related to Islam, let alone a Ph.D. and post-doctoral fellowship. Spencer does have in M.A. in the field of early Christian studies; does that make him a scholar of Christianity? If not, then why is he considered a scholar of Islam without even an M.A. in Islamic studies?…”

“...Newsmax officially added Geller as a columnist in August. Her bio claims that at her regular blog, Atlas Shrugs, she is “bringing you the news you will not hear from the mainstream media, covering little-reported events of great import.” But of course, there’s no attention given to the wacky extremist views she holds.Geller — a former associate publisher of the New York Observer formerly married to a New York car dealer that owned a dealership linked not only to an alleged fraud scam but the killing of two police officers (the dealership is listed as partly owned by Geller, who has denied any knowledge of or involvement in the alleged scam) — is rabidly anti-Obama, anti-Islam and pro-birther. She has also had dalliances with European fascists and promoted the far-right British National Party. (Geller doesn’t think these folks are “neofascist,” apparently feeling that their anti-Islamic activism excuses their political leanings.) Geller’s Newsmax columns reflect these views….”

We have been sold such a false bill of goods.

Why is Mitt Romney meeting with the worst of the haters?  Part III, has some very disturbing details of Romney’s meeting with one of the worst of the extremists.

  1. Because Mitt’s a nasty little piece of work himself, and this alliance not only serves him politically but actually ties in well with his own worldview?
    That’s been my growing theory/suspicion/hunch.

The situation in the Islamic world is a difficult and tangled web — we need to keep a presence there, but we can only do so much. The events in Libya are encouraging, but then I got to be witness to the events in Iraq which informs me that hope holds on to a slender rope — so many things can go wrong, or even not quite right. Still, it is our only option (and it is the hope of not just us, but the rest of the world, Muslims most definitely included).

The rabble rousers in our own midst are not helping (and you are most correct: they are not doing this out of any noble intent; this is merely about money, sex, power — and they are quite willing to sacrifice a multitude of innocents to that altar as they do not pay the price themselves; it’s disgusting), and it is easy to listen to them (fear and its attendant, anger, will do that to you).
