“…Those who are high are brought low:
The proud are scattered
The mighty are put down
The rich are sent away empty
Meanwhile the meek are lifted up:
The lowly are exalted
The hungry are filled..”
You cannot serve God and Wealth!
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.’
You are also to pay your taxes and obey Caesar.
Leave it to The Pink Flamingo to turn one of the holiest of days into something political. I think, though, that it’s needed, this year, especially. I am a life-long Republican. One of the reasons I’ve always been a Republican is because of the fact that we were always the party who truly cared about the holiness of human life and human dignity. It was all about treating people with kindness, honor, and humanity. We understood, allegedly, human nature. While the idea was to limit government, try and keep spending as low as possible, it was also about insuring there was a safety net for those in need.
This new version of the far right, doesn’t believe in helping others, other than to give them a fishing hook, teach them how to fish; humiliate them in food banks; complain that they are deadbeats; and refuse to help them, other than to tell them to help themselves. There’s one problem with the new, libertarian, far right, conservative “Christian” version of the GOP. Any vestige of kindness, of wanting to help others, of suggesting that the wealthy pay the same taxes as everyone else, of public assistance, welfare, Medicaid, Social Security, and even public education is socialist.
Is this socialist?
” ‘..Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake?…‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also….”
Do you see any of this?
“..‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, “What will we eat?” or “What will we drink?” or “What will we wear?” For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. ‘So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today…”
This isn’t exactly conservative:
“…‘You have heard that it was said, “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you….”
Luke 1: 46-55
46 And Mary said,
‘My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
48 for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.
50 His mercy is for those who fear him
from generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
52 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
53 he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
55 according to the promise he made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.’
If a Christian takes the teachings of Christ, seriously, and plans to remain a Republican, please, be prepared to be called a socialist, marxist, or a communist. This is what happens when people, who claim to be Christians, turn their back on Christ and follow the teachings of an atheist who detested Him.
The very act of rebelling against the country, of spewing hatred toward Barack Obama, liberals and anyone the far right does not lionize should leave a tremendous distaste in the heart and mind of anyone who takes their following of Christ, to be seriously.
Our Heavenly Father bestowed the greatest gift – ever. How do we repay Him, through selfishness? I don’t know about you, but I’m not sure I want to go down that road. Do you?
‘For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
