Far Right Radio Payola?

Picture 1Once upon a time, there was a huge scandal in radio.  It was called Payola.

“...Payola, in the American music industry, is the illegal practice of payment or other inducement by record companies for the broadcast of recordings on music radio in which the song is presented as being part of the normal day’s broadcast. Under U.S. law, 47 U.S.C. § 317, a radio station can play a specific song in exchange for money, but this must be disclosed on the air as being sponsored airtime, and that play of the song should not be counted as a “regular airplay”. The term has come to refer to any secret payment made to cast a product in a favorable light (such as obtaining positive reviews)….”

One would suspect that, when Glenn Beck received about a million bucks to promote Freedom Works, and Rush received a pile of money, that it would be considered Payola.

“...So essentially this is the same thing that Sarah Palin has done, as well as various other so called conservatives. They talk about freedom, conservative values, and apple pie to attract donations and then use the money to pay staff, fund raise, or else launder it by paying other conservative groups who then send the money back to them for some bullshit or unidentified service….”

If this were the real world, and rules did apply – when it came to talk, the same as music, Rush Limbaugh would be in deep you know what for taking payola from far right organizations to promote their agenda.

“...FreedomWorks, which is funded primarily by very rich people, solicits donations from non-rich conservative people. More than 80,000 people donated money to FreedomWorks in 2012, and it seems likely that only a small minority of those people were hedge fund millionaires. And what are people who donate to this grass-roots conservative organization funded mostly by a few very rich people getting for their hard-earned money? In addition to paying Dick Armey $400,000 a year for 20 years to stay away, FreedomWorks also apparently spent more than a million dollars paying Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh to say nice things about FreedomWorks, in order to convince listeners to send FreedomWorks money that FreedomWorks would then give to Limbaugh and Beck. It’s a pretty simple con. Beck, meanwhile, also has a subscriber-based media operation, in which people pay his company money for access to programs where Beck expresses opinions that he was paid to hold. He also spent years telling everyone to buy gold from a company that pays him and defrauds consumers….”

It gets even better!

“...Dick Morris’ lawyers have reportedly confirmed that the conservative commentator’s website received money in a fundraising scheme involving his mailing list, the conservative outlet Newsmax, and his organization Super PAC for America. Morris is also reportedly distancing himself from the super PAC despite previously stating that he “formed” the group and it’s “my organization.”

Media Matters wrote on December 7 that Morris aggressively fundraised for the super PAC, which then apparently funneled money back to Morris through rentals of his DickMorris.com email list.

According to Federal Elections Commission data, Morris’ Super PAC for America paid Newsmax Media roughly $1.7 million for “fundraising” in October and November. Dick Morris’ email list is operated by Newsmax. In the month before the 2012 election, Morris sent at least 21 emails to his mailing list featuring fundraising pitches that were “paid for by Super PAC for America,” meaning that a significant portion of the super PAC’s money likely went to renting Morris’ own email list. Super PAC for America also “paid for” at least 25 emails to Newsmax.com’s main email list during the same period….”

No wonder there is a sense of panic in the far right.  First, the Tea Parties are no longer very popular, with only three in ten Americans supporting them!  Only 8 percent of Americans identify with the tea parties!

The real problem here is the fact that

“...A state of panic exists because Republican members of Congress demand a state of paralysis. They want to freeze the world as it is because the new world doesn’t have room for white male bigots who base their lives on Bronze Age mythology and white, privileged, Jeffersonian-style institutional racism. Their real ideology has nothing to do with gun rights, fighting against abortion or reducing the size of the federal deficit, but has everything to do with their own personal psychological turmoil.
These people are literally ill with fear. And their world is turning lopsided. There is a black man in the White House and he’s winning, and worst of all he’s self-evidently smarter than they are. He’s not even angry!
It is time for the mainstream media to stop playing the Republican extremists’ game. Let’s talk about racism and white Southern males who can’t get with the program. Let’s talk about what’s really going on with gun rights, which has nothing to do with hunting or home protection or even the Second Amendment, but has everything to do with the delusional paranoia of people who really believe the world is out to get them because it’s changing….”

The real problem is that the monied set, using money to make money, have corrupted the system to the point where they have corrupted the way the GOP thinks about things.  Thanks to FOX Tabloid News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, News Max, World Net Daily, and any number of non-profit for profit sources, the average white male in this country, those who are honestly, and decently conservative, feel as though they are besieged.

There are times when the paranoid really are right.  These poor men are under siege. But – the enemy is not the left, but the far right.  The great irony here is that the far right is simply doing the whole profit, making money thing – by destroying the GOP and the sense of well being of the poor, scared, white, American male.

It’s call capitalism, right?

Let’s be honest here.  The far right is to blame. Those poor, scared, little white men had best grow up, open their eyes, and deal with life.  If not, they’re going to make themselves miserable, while the rest of us began laughing at them.  If you are stupid enough to fall for the idiocy of spewed by Freedom Works, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, FOX Tabloid News, etc. you know, well, you get what you deserve.

No wonder they need Viagra.

P. S.  The refusal of the far right “Christian” male to want their business to pay for contraceptives is NOT about religious freedom.  It is about their fear that the white race is becoming the minority.  We need more and more little white babies to make up for all those minority children being born.
