The Far Right Jumps the Abortion Shark

200px-Fonzie_jumps_the_sharkIn New Mexico, Republican embarrassment Cathryann Brown (Carlsbad) introduced a bill that would force a raped woman to have the child, because IT is evidence for the rape trial.  The Pink Flamingo does not think the original wording was wrong, as yet another embarrassing Republican now states, but was just that.  She admits that the bill was to prosecute rapists and incest perpetrators who coerce women into having abortions!  Yes, you read that correctly.

The problem with this is that she says it is to protect victims of incest from being coerced into having an abortion by the rapist.  The problem is the woman is SO STUPID she did not comprehend that DNA can be taken from an aborted fetus.  There are times when an abortion is needed, and this is where I would probably push a child into having one.  No child should be required to carry an incestuous child from rape by an adult – usually a parent.

Any sympathy for the anti-abortion movement, as a whole, is being destroyed by far right zealots who don’t give a damn about how they make the GOP, let alone do what is right for a woman who has been violated.  On Brown’s facebook page, she lists discredited Glenn Beck historian David Burton as one of her “likes”.  That should tell you everything you need to know about this person.  Something else you should know about Brown is quite important to the case against her.  She is on the board of Right to Life of Carlsbad.

“…CATHRYNN BROWN, R-CARLSBAD, is a Carlsbad lawyer practicing transactional (the body of law that governs transactions between individuals or corporations). Her husband, Mike, is an engineer who works for the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.

Although her recent campaign, in which she defeated House Democratic caucus Chairman John Heaton, was her first run for public office, Brown has been active for years in politics. She served two terms as Eddy County GOP chairwoman and has been on the board of Right to Life of Carlsbad, an anti-abortion group.

Brown said in a recent interview that she’s a skeptic on global warming. “I believe it’s now a discredited theory,” she said. “I believe Al Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth was helpful. It gave us sources to evaluate, It was helpful in debunking the theory.”

Asked about the Rail Runner, she said the state should consider selling the railroad to a private company and put the proceeds into the state general fund. …”

Please, read the the woman’s explanation.

“...If a woman had an abortion after being raped, she and her doctor would be charged with a felony punishable by up to three years in state prison, reports

Brown, who is a Republican, said today in a statement: “New Mexico needs to strengthen its laws to deter sex offenders. By adding this law in New Mexico, we can help to protect women across our state.”

However, Pat Davis of ProgressNow New Mexico, said in a statement that the bill is “blatantly unconstitutional.”

Davis said: “The bill turns victims of rape and incest into felons and forces them to become incubators of evidence for the state. According to Republican philosophy, victims who are ‘legitimately raped’ will now have to carry the fetus to term in order to prove their case.”…”

Brown has been caught with her lies.  The bill has 9 GOP sponsors:  The Pink Flamingo cannot find a list of the co-sponsors, which is rather interesting, in itself.

“...But state Democratic spokesman Scott Forrester said Thursday evening “it’s impossible that this was a mistake,” noting that the bill had nine GOP co-sponsors. “She got caught,” he said. “She can’t backtrack. … Her agenda is pretty clear.”

USA TODAY has asked Brown what language she would add to try to clarify that the bill would target only attackers, not victims or family members who might encourage a woman or girl to have an abortion. She has not yet responded to e-mails….”

It’s quite sad. The woman was obviously trying to promote her anti-abortion agenda.  That’s fine. But – she did not quite tell the truth about the true intent of the bill.  Her facebook page has been removed at the time of this writing.

Then…. there is this doozy!

What about this one? I’ve been waiting to hear the verdict in this specific trial. Imagine …. what they have done, sold their soul to win a lawsuit.

“...Nonetheless, when it came to mounting a defense in the Stodghill case, the firm was clear that only people who are “born alive” count as “people” as under the law. The argument has won favorable rulings from Fremont County District Court Judge David M. Thorson and now-retired Colorado Court of Appeals Judge Arthur Roy….”

I think Obamacare just won.

You know, arrogance and greed always get ’em in the end.  I am not looking at this from either side of the abortion issue, other than the fact that the far right has blown it.  The very idea that, in order to avoid losing a law suit brought on by the family of a woman who died because a doctor and hospital blew it, the attorneys for a very large Catholic hospital system, have stated that life begins at birth, is going to be like Casper, Topper, and every other ghost you can think of.  This is going to come back and haunt the far right, and even the Catholic Church, from now on.

If this is used as a precedent to force the Church into Obamacare, it will be rather ironic.  I don’t think it will, but you never know.  This is a fight that is far from over.  As far as New Mexico is concerned, this is about a very far right individual getting caught, red-handed.  She had done more to destroy the movement that she supports than anyone I’ve seen in a long time.

This is what is happening to the anti-abortion movement.  It is becoming more and more absurd.  Where once it was something good, it is now harming the ’cause’ more than one can imagine.  Doesn’t matter what you think about abortion, and my views are on record.  This is a blow to the whole pro-life movement.
