How will your state be effected by Sequester? The health industry will be severely affected, but that is part of the point of Sequestration. The handlers for the GOP, their pimps, want do do away with rules and regulations.
“...And our distribution of income changed dramatically as well. During the 35 years prior to Ronald Reagan’s election, the top one percent of U.S. households had taken in an average of 10 percent of the nation’s income. When Reagan left office in 1988, those at the top were grabbing 15.5 percent of the pie, and by the time George W. Bush took office in 2000, they were taking over 20 percent of the nation’s income.
We can either believe that this shift was a result of changes in public policy (combined with new technologies), or that in just two decades there was some sort of rapid cultural decline among everyone but those at the top of the economic heap.
All of the false narratives are intended to distract from the structural causes of poverty and inequality, and they ignore two simple and indisputable truths. First, contrary to popular belief, we don’t all start out with the same opportunities. The reality is that in the United States today, the best predictor of a newborn baby’s economic future is how much money her parents make.
It also ignores the fact that living in an individualistic, capitalist society carries inherent risk. You can do everything right – study hard, work diligently, keep your nose clean – but if you fall victim to a random workplace accident, you can nevertheless end up being disabled in the blink of an eye and find yourself in need of public assistance. You can end up bankrupt under a pile of healthcare bills or you could lose your job if you’re forced to take care of an ailing parent. Children – innocents who aren’t even old enough to work for themselves – are among the largest groups receiving various forms of public assistance….”
In listening to these cruel fantasies promoted by those who only care about their bottom line, one must simply turn to the old phrase “Hard Hearted“. The GOP is now only interested in the needs of the ultra wealthy who basically control everything, every part of their re-election chances.
“…Our lives are governed by our hearts. What we love determines who we are. Philosophers might define a human being as a “rational animal”. Biologists may label us homo sapiens (men of wisdom/knowledge). But a more biblical description might be homo adorans (men who love). Our lives issue from our hearts.
These days if we come across an uncaring person we might say “Have a heart!” But in the Bible the uncaring do have hearts – just hard hearts. And this is a problem.
Because in fact we all have a congenital heart condition. We are not born with soft hearts. We do not, by nature, love the things we ought to love – supremely the LORD and our neighbour (Mark 12:28-31). We are forever doing what we want. But we can’t just decide to want the right things. We need to be swept off our feet. We need a heart change. And this is precisely what the LORD offers. He comes by His Spirit to woo us from sin and self and the world.
But here’s the issue for today. If our hearts are not warmed and softened by the LORD, we are not left in a neutral state. If the LORD is not softening our hearts, He is hardening them….”
My grandmother Froehlich always said when you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. They have lost compassion. Their hearts have literally been hardened to the realities of life. When a person’s heart is hardened, they exhibit the following traits, the primary being heartless, mean, merciless, and unforgiving.
“…There is a quote attributed to Mahatma Gandhi that is prescient to Republican inhumanity; “The measure of a society is how it treats its weakest members,” and because heartless people continue electing Republicans to impose harsh treatment on society’s weakest members, America has become exceptionally inhumane. Republicans proposed harsh cuts to social and domestic programs in previous budgets to critical acclaim and rejoicing from their supporters, and as they herald more “common sense” and “smart” cuts to replace sequester defense cuts, their inherent inhumanity explains their contempt for Americans. Devastating the nation’s economy by enacting sequester cuts is bad enough, but it is damage to the poor and working class that defines Republicans as cruel and without compassion for suffering.
Republicans claim to be pro-life, and yet they are responsible for brutal reductions in the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) program that denies 970,000 pregnant women, and women with young children access to food assistance, and the first round of sequester cuts will reduce funding by $353 million more kicking another 600,000 women and their young children off the program. There are also drastic cuts for early childhood education, and in the first round of sequester cuts, 70,000 children will be cut from Head Start and Early Head Start, and 30,000 parents lose access to child care service. It is inhumane, and shocking, that Republicans think starving nearly a million-and-a-half women and children is common sense and smart, and if it represents their storied “reverence for human life,” they are hypocrites and heartless indeed. No human being with an ounce of humanity would deliberately negate food, healthcare, and pre-natal assistance from women and children under any circumstances; especially if they claim to be pro-life and Christian….”
Just when you think there is no humanity left in the world, comes this wonderful story!
Now, fast forward back to the real world, and the nastiness in it. If Sequester happens, and we all know it probably will because the GOP is acting like a bunch of spoiled brats, New Mexico will be severely impacted, especially the tribal areas.
There are unfortunate political realities in play. Yes, we are spending to much money. But – we could off-set this if we weren’t subsidizing mega corporations, billionaires, and the like. When a majority of WalMart employees are on food stamps, then we the taxpayer are subsidizing WalMart. We’re subsidizing the top corporation in the country, because of the tax loopholes and the fact that they are paying far less than the average small business owner. There is something seriously wrong with this scenario. It is literally breaking the country. The far right likes to talk about those who have less, paying their ‘fair share’ in taxes, but they fail to realize that we already are.
It’s not about spending money we may or may not have. This is about how people are treated. Something really nasty happened to the far right when the tea parties took over. The famous compassion, concern, and caring that was once a hallmark of the GOP is long gone. I keep going back to a passage in Ezekiel. If it is true, and I believe the Bible to be the Word of God, this country is in deep sh*t, thanks to the Christian Right. How’s that for bitter irony?
48As I live, says the Lord God, your sister Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done. 49This was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy. 50They were haughty, and did abominable things before me; therefore I removed them when I saw it.
As a nation, if the GOP doesn’t get a grip in reality, and get back to the Bible, and quit thumbing their nose at Christ, we are so screwed. The amazing irony here is that the haters say we will be brought down because of the Sin of Sodomy – homosexuality. Looks like the real sin from Sodom was not aiding the poor and needy.
There is a difference between throwing money away and helping others. This nation is so wealthy, no one should be hungry, in need, cold, or without medical assistance. To say this is not about socialism. It is about life in the modern world. No, I don’t like taxes and feel like we are paying too much, we the little people are. The big guys aren’t paying the same percentage rate we are. If they were, maybe we could do more to solve the problems of need in this nation.
The Pink Flamingo has been told that I’ve changed, politically. Maybe I have. I still have the same basic Reagan Conservative values. But – the past couple of years, I’ve had to face hard realities in life. I’ve learned that compassion is something we must cultivate. After spending nearly 3 years in concentrated prayer and Bible study, I’ve come to realize that, in order to follow Christ, one must comprehend that compassion and charity is required. I truly think that one cannot truly follow Christ and be a libertarian or a Randian. It is impossible.
