The Pink Flamingo began listening to Rush Limbaugh during the late winter of 1993 when his television show first premiered. My mother watched it first. She told me to watch it. I agreed with everything he said, 100% of the time. He said things that needed to be said. Then, something happened. Where he was once quite funny, almost the SNL of the right, he became cruel, vicious, sarcastic, and apparently determined to destroy any Republican who disagreed with him. By 2008, it became quite obvious there was an additional agenda at work.
The Pink Flamingo has been known to make the comment that conservatives appear to be so darn easy to manipulate. They are good, trusting people, who don’t think ill of anyone who isn’t a Democrat, liberal, or Barack Obama. Anyone who knows the right hand-shake, password, and uses the right words is accepted, no questions asked.
Rush Limbaugh thinks we are in the midst of a coup. Of course he is going to say that. He’s being told to say that, bought and paid for, owned by a division of Bain Capital. Once upon a time, during an election cycle, someone who was as closely associated with a company so closely associated with a POTUS candidate, would not be allowed to go on the air, without equal time for the opposition.
Not any more. We don’t need an opposition. The far right has been blinded by the canard that the only way to maintain the fallacy that we live in the greatest nation on earth is to swear allegiance to the ideals that are promoted by the corporations owned by the billionaires who now control the country. Rush Limbaugh is the biggest blow-hard iceberg in the water, but he’s not alone. They also control FOX News, Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Michael Medved, Bill O’Reilly, Alex Jones, Matt Drudge, and every other mouth-piece lying about Obama.
It is though good, honorable and decent people have been outfitted with blinders.
ALEC is a beautiful and glorious Gorgon created to seduce, fund, and turn good, decent, well-meaning men and women who were once honorable Republicans into nothing but cheap prostitutes who give honest street-walkers a bad name. The worst part is they are controlled by the Koch Machine, probably the worst threat to this nation in many years. The Kochs control a heck of a lot of things in this country, including the message.
“...The Koch Brothers: Yes, there is more than one Koch brother, but rather than jotting down the same paragraph twice, it makes more sense to combine the two. Charles and David Koch are the owners of Koch Industries, a private oil and chemicals company. They have spent big money in elections and have pretty much bought and paid for all of Republicans that sit on the energy committee. They also have ties to The John Birch Society, of which their father was a founding member, and several other conservative think tanks and organizations including, Americans For Prosperity which David Koch leads as chairman, the Heritage Foundation, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), and the Cato Institute. They helped create and fund the Tea Party and have been very influential in the watering down of environmental laws and the destruction of unions. If you really want to see the scope of their influence look at what is happening in Wisconsin and in the U.S. House of Representatives….the radical right-wing John Birch Society, which is yet another organization that has Koch family connections. Founded in 1958 by Robert Welch, Jr., the John Birch Society is an anti-communism group that has pretty much denounced every liberal person and policy as socialist. It opposes the Civil Rights Act, the United Nations, and believes in immigration reduction. It aims to dismantle the Federal Reserve System and wants to return to the gold standard. The group is a sponsor of CPAC and is no longer exiled from the mainstream. Another interesting fact is that Fred Koch, father of the aforementioned Koch brothers, was a founding member.
If you want to know just where the rest of the nation is heading, go take a gander at the United Koch State of North Carolina. A formerly purple state, it has become one of the strongest bastions of ALEC in the nation. If you don’t know what ALEC is, I suspect that it is time you do, before it’s too late. As far as freedom is concerned, truth, justice, and the American Way, well, ALEC is the most dangerous foe we’ve faced in decades.
“...American Legislative Exchange Council, also known as ALEC. The Council is basically a pay to play organization that carries the corporate agenda into state legislatures across the country. They work to end unions, end environmental and labor regulations, and end consumer protection laws. ALEC has been funded by the Koch brothers for two decades. The price for corporate participation is an ALEC membership fee of as much as $25,000. For that price, corporations are basically writing the legislation that you are currently seeing being proposed and implemented in Republican controlled states across the country….”
Nearly a quarter of American children are living in poverty. The minimum wage in this nation is low, we are rated 13th Among developed nations. We should have the highest minimum wage, not ranked #13. We have the worst health care system in the developed world – worse than all other industrialized countries on the planet. In many countries, a college education is nearly free. According to ALEC, well, forget that, the idea now is to privatize schools. It gets worse. In Wisconsin, ALEC has helped do away with educational requirements for teachers.
“...The proposal also creates a new teaching license for individuals with no formal education background to teach in the charter schools that is ALEC’s Alternative Certification Act. It is ALEC’s attempt to reduce requirements for becoming a teacher to produce failing schools, push more privatization, kill unions, and allow publicly-funded ideological religious curriculum to slip unnoticed and unaccounted for in charter schools that are immune from public oversight. As it is now, Wisconsin taxpayers will have sent an estimated $1.8 billion of public school funding to private and religious schools by 2014-15 as a result of privatization interests spending well over $10 million on Republican candidates with Walker receiving $2.35 million to push ALEC’s privatization efforts….”
The first quarter of 2013 saw the largest wage drop since the figures have been kept, for 65 years. It’s quite simple. States where ALEC controls the elected officials have more poverty level residents than those who are ‘evil’ and liberal.
“…It is true that America is the richest nation on Earth, has the most powerful military in the world, and is home to the most millionaires and billionaires of any country on the planet, but that is where the exceptionalism ends. In just about every other category, America is inferior and that is being extremely generous. However, there are millions of ignorant Americans arming themselves to maintain the status quo and prove their belief that the United States is number one and it is down to their ignorance and acceptance that if it is American, it is the best. Many Americans are led to believe the country’s storied “great middle class” is proof positive the nation is exceptional, but according to the “Global Wealth Databook 2012″ the great middle class ranks 27th in the developed world behind poorer nations such as Spain, Ireland, France, and Cyprus. Even in countries struggling with double and triple-dip recessions, the middle class holds four times the wealth as the average middle class American who is watching what little they have left transferred to the richest one-percent due to thirty years of Republican policies….”
We are the richest nation in the world. The great tragedy is that the rich continue to become wealthier, beyond the dreams of avarice and the rest of us are sinking farther and farther into poverty. Through their legislative branch of ALEC, those who are having problems, and need help, need SNAP, are being treated like dirt. It is quite ironic that the Farm Bill is full of pork to provide welfare for mega corporations and big corporate farms, a number of which are owned by the Kochs, but Paul Ryan sponsored an amendment that would prevent anyone from receiving food stamps if they own a car.
We have a serious problem in this country, called ALEC. The great tragedy is the way the far right, good conservatives, wonderful people have slowly been brainwashed into believing what the Koch Machine wants them to believe. One of the reasons you know they’ve reached a point past go is because they can’t see the problem, and refuse to acknowledge that something could be wrong.
“...So which person or organization is the most dangerous to democracy? The common thread throughout the list is the Koch brothers. They have ties to many of the people and organizations on the list and share many of the same goals. If one were to remove the Koch brothers from the equation an important source of funding and leadership would be eliminated from the conservative sphere. The Koch brothers are by far the biggest threat to American values and institutions. The truly evil thing about this group is that NONE of these monsters are elected by the people. Yet they have more power and influence over our elected officials and system of law and government, than we do…”
Where is all of this leading?
What the far right envisions, the world that the Koch Machine desires is, historically, unsustainable. It always – always ends badly.
“...For people who claim to be in touch with the founding fathers, their work and ideas of capitalism are based not on what the founders themselves believed, but instead on what the French under Louis XV enacted for their economic system.
The problem was, this system enabled corruption, with the result being that the entire economy collapsed for the poorest of the French citizenry. By the time his grandson, Louis XVI, had taken the crown, the majority of the French citizenry were in abject poverty, it had all been taken by the aristocracy under laissez-faire.
When faced with the problems after taking the crown in 1775, he did not reject laissez-faire, but instead proclaimed that the nation had not been emphatic enough in their embrace of it, so he pushed for even more government de-regulation and even more tax cuts for the wealthy (nobles paid no taxes by 1783), which created an even wealthier aristocracy, and even more poor as taxes had to be raised to pay for an incredibly high debt caused by the tax cuts on the wealthy.
So, even as he gave the poor unprecedented liberties, such as the freedom of religion and even reformed the nation from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy, it did not matter. The poor had nothing left, and when people have nothing to live for, they have no reason not to revolt. Louis XVI was executed on the 21st of January, 1793….”
Educated individuals know the rest of the story. The problem is, under the auspices of David Barton, the right is no longer well read when it comes to our early history. He’s part of the brainwashing problem, a big part. There are times when the type of religion he, the far right, ALEC, and the Koch Machine promotes truly is the opiate of the people.
It is rather fascinating that recent studies are beginning to prove that conservatives are far easier to manipulate than liberals. It’s time for some serious deprogramming to begin.
