Every once in awhile, a person does have a right to blame their parents for ruining, for destroying their lives. One day, Kate Hunt, if she is capable of such introspection, will be one of those people. I’ve reached the point where I’m not sure if she is capable of such introspection. The now 19 year old young woman is in serious legal trouble, thanks to the abject criminal stupidity and behavior of her parents. Her mother should be joining her in the county lock-up for her role in what can only be seen as a well planned attack to destroy both the victim and her parents. These people are evil. They have instilled their daughters with the notion that they are above the law. The law doesn’t apply to them. The blatant disregard for the basic facts in this case, and the way the Hunts have allowed their daughter to behave is one of the most puzzling things I’ve ever encountered. Perhaps it is why I continue to follow this case, which should be a cut and dried plea, with normal parents attempting to help their child get their life back on track.
Normal does not apply to the Hunt family.
On Tuesday, the judge revoked bail. Kate Hunt will remain in the county lock-up until the court date of September 23. If, indeed, her mother, Kelley Hunt Smith had known about the contact Kate was having with the victim, as far back as March, violating the no-contact requirement, then, why on earth didn’t she and Kate’s father, Steve Smith, stop it? Even more puzzling is why they simply didn’t force their child to take the original deal and let everyone get on with their lives?
This is what continues to puzzle me. The parents obviously knew their child was in direct violation of a court order, yet they continued to promote and support her. There are several very disturbing possible reasons including their abject disregard of the law. What bothers me even more is the fact that it is possible they were simply using Kate to
bilk milk supporters for all they were worth. Kate was literally their cash cow, bringing in as much as $30,000 at one time. There were probably other donations. She was their 15 minutes of fame.
What kind of parents are they? Steve Hunt, Kate’s father is shown here sitting beside his daughter. He’s the one with his hand intimately on his daughter’s leg.
According to the court documents that cost Kate Hunt her freedom and the plea deal, the now 19 year old has attempted to contact her victim over 20K times? Why is William Korman, the top defense attorney for sexual predators and pedophiles defending Kate? If Hunt did, indeed post sexually explicit photos of the encounter she had with the then 14 year old Smith child, is that not basically child pornography? Or, are the lewd and pornographic images sent from Kate Hunt to the victim of Hunt only? Korman is trying to say this is just another case of an innocent child being persecuted.
Unfortunately, there is nothing innocent about a young woman who basically grooms and stalks her victim, then tries to separate her from her family. Evidently law enforcement officials are also looking at her mother, Kelley Hunt Smith, and her attempts to harass and threaten the victim.
She also told the victim to delete everything on the iPod Touch. The iPod was discovered two weeks ago by the Smiths. Allegedly Kate Hunt had been sending sexually based messages and photos to the child. That’s sort of a felony?
In fact, as R. S. McCain, who has been on top of the story, has a great synopsis of the day’s events, including the horrible details of how Kate Hunt has been transmitting lewd photos to the minor. I think that’s a a very real felony.
The victim is having difficulties adjusting. She’s in therapy. It doesn’t help that Kate Hunt, with the help of her mother, Kelley Hunt Smith, has been after her, repeatedly. It is said that Kate met with her victim three weeks ago, against court orders. She violated the no contact order, repeatedly.
What sort of person would do that? What sort of people defend something like this?
On Monday evening, Kaitlyn Hunt was alleged to have turned herself in, after bail was revoked. This what was being said on her supporting FB page, and by her supporters. Apparently, this was not accurate, that a bail bondsman brought her in. (Inmate info here) Her family had posted a $5000 bond back in February. As R. S. McCain points out, the bondsman brought her in, at his discretion. This is, according to him, huge. It is starting to look quite bad for a 19 year old young woman who could have simply spent a year under house arrest and then had a chance at life. Now though, at her age, and having contacted her victim, even allegedly three weeks ago, we’re looking at serious time.
It looks to me the only way they are going to be able to even get her out of hard time is to try for mental illness.
“…“It is apparent from the defendant’s past and present patterns of behavior that (Hunt) does not care that two circuit judges have ordered her to stay away from her victim,” according the written opinion of State Attorney Bruce Colton. “She has covertly contacted her victim thousands of time, had continued intimate contact with her victim, threatened to blame her victim if her own misconduct is discovered, instructed her victim on what to say to the prosecutor, solicited her victim to lie for her, and in general sought to obstruct the judicial process. “…”
This is how the story has been skewed:
“...Hunt’s family claim that the relationship between the two girls was consensual. However under Florida law, a person under the age of 16 is not considered to be able to legally consent to sex.
The victims’ parents say that they are only protecting their daughter and it has nothing to do with her being gay. The Hunt family have tried to turn the case into a civil rights issue – claiming Kaitlyn was only charged because she is a lesbian.
More than 160,000 people have signed a Change.org petition asking Assistant State Attorney Brian Workman to drop the charges. More than 44,000 people have taken up the cause on Facebook.
Kaitlyn has said the legal battle has been emotionally draining. She was expelled from Sebastian River High School near central Florida’s Atlantic coast. ‘Every day’s different. Some days I’m my happy self. Some days I’m overwhelmed, some days I’m scared,’ she said. Gay rights advocates say older high schoolers dating their younger counterparts is an innocuous, everyday occurrence that is not prosecuted – regardless of sexual orientation – and not a crime on par with predatory sex offenses.…”
“...Hunt put an iPod in the younger girl’s locker at school, state attorney Bruce H. Colton said in the notification seeking revocation of Hunt’s bond. The iPod was used by Hunt to send more than 20,000 text messages, “lewd and lascivious” photos and at least one pornographic video to the younger girl, Colton said. “These photographs are explicit and depict [Hunt] nude, sometimes engaged in sex acts such as placing her fingers inside her vagina,” Colton wrote, while the video “explicitly depicts [Hunt] masturbating by rubbing her vagina with her fingers while moaning.”
Hunt also “coordinated secret meetings” with the younger girl, picking her up and driving “to a remote location where they would have intimate contact.” Such rendevous “have taken place as recently as two weeks ago,” Colton said the younger girl told Detective Jeremy Shepherd of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office….”
The parents just keep on defending this behavior.
“...The “Free Kate” movement drew widespread support — including more than 300,000 signatures on an online petition — when Hunt’s parents first went public about the case in May. Supporters depicted Hunt as an innocent victim of homophobia, being prosecuted for a “schoolgirl crush” or a “high-school romance.” At first, it was widely claimed that the two girls had been 17 and 15 at the time of the affair, rather than 18 and 14.
However, once the Sheriff’s Office affidavit was published and more facts about the case became known, many of Hunt’s supporters lost their enthusiasm for the cause. Joan McCarter, a staff writer at the popular progressive site Daily Kos, retracted her support for the “Free Kate” campaign. Lesbian writer T.J. Askren wrote May 22 at her Red Treehouse blog: “Kaitlyn Hunt is not a lesbian hero. She is not a gay martyr. … Getting in trouble for finger f*cking your underage girlfriend in the school bathroom is not a noble cause.” Conservative writer Matt Philbin of the Media Research Center said Hunt’s supporters were using gay rights as a “Get Out of Jail Free” card for statutory rape.
Facts about the case were compiled at a site called SupportHonesty.net, and some gay-rights groups — including the local chapter of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) — refused to back the “Free Kate” campaign. However, Hunt’s most enthusiastic supporters have compared her to civil-rights icon Rosa Parks. …’
NOTE: This video is quite graphic in nature.
I think we can all agree this this tale is tragic, to say the least. The way it stands, now, I don’t seen any good resolution, for anyone. The victim has been separated from her family in the most predatory of fashion, like those IMAX films about the migration of the buffalo and the lions. Lions or other predators wait for a calf to become separated from its parents. They then go in for the kill, pouncing on the poor creature, destroying it.
