When the GOP shut down the government in 1995 and 1996 I was ticked with them. It backfired, big time. As a Republican, I was furious because I knew it was the kiss of death. It was. This time, if the GOP is allowed to get away with what they have begun, it is going to be even worse. This time, the end result is not only going to be the loss of the House, and further losses in the Senate, but basically the end of the Republican Party, as we known it. It’s basically over. The elephant is dead.
“...A 2010 Congressional Research Service report summarized other details of the 1995-1996 government shutdowns, indicating the shutdown impacted all sectors of the economy. Health and welfare services for military veterans were curtailed; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stopped disease surveillance; new clinical research patients were not accepted at the National Institutes of Health; and toxic waste clean-up work at 609 sites was halted. Other impacts included: the closure of 368 National Park sites resulted in the loss of some seven million visitors; 200,000 applications for passports and 20,000 to 30,000 applications for visas by foreigners went unprocessed each day; U.S. tourism and airline industries incurred millions of dollars in losses; more than 20% of federal contracts, representing $3.7 billion in spending, were affected adversely….”
They remind me of the Addams Family, creepy and kooky. Unfortunately, they’re starting to get a little spooky. Fact is, they’re starting to get just a little bit scary. For awhile, their agenda was silly, and annoying. The whole lot of them are starting to take an ominous turn. When Glenn Beck starts comparing liberals to Nazis, saying they should be hunted down, and then what, he did not say. The problem is guys like Beck are no loner funny. They’re downright disgusting. What is funny though, in his most recent outrage state, Beck has decided the George W. Bush is a ‘progressive’.
So – here’s what Beck is doing:
- Rabid nationalism
- Voter suppression
- Rule by a few
- Little tolerance of meaningful opposition
- Racial superiority
- Punishment of the poor and sick
- Media as a propaganda tool
- Obsessed with military and war
- Education as an indoctrination tool
- Demonization of intellectuals
- Hatred and fear of communists
- Subjugation of women
- Obsessed with Christianity
- Strongly aligned with corporations
- Takes advantage of disasters to push agenda
The problem is, according to Stephen D. Foster, Jr. of Addicting Information, Beck is basically doing the same thing the old time fascists and Nazis did. Who knew? (Well, most of us did)
Larry Klayman (patriot?) thinks it is time for Americans to take to the streets to rebel against Barack Obama. Freedom Watch has advocated for a citizen’s grand jury to forcibly remove as sitting POTUS via a coup d’état. In Georgia, last year, 4 American soldiers were arrested for conspiring to assassinate Barack Obama. The Virginia Republican Committee called for armed revolution if Obama was not defeated lat November.
“…According to Klayman and Freedom Watch, “Once convicted, We the People have the right to enforce this conviction and demand that Obama surrender himself to the people’s system of justice for incarceration.” Klayman is certain the President will not capitulate to the Christian and patriot demands because of “his arrogance and disrespect for American law and his allegiance to Sharia law.” So he is calling “upon all American patriots, once we obtain this conviction to converge on Washington stand in front of the White House and demand that Barack Hussein Obama leave.” Apparently Klayman and Freedom Watch are aiming for a date during the week before Thanksgiving to converge on and occupy Washington in the millions and chant, “Mr. President, put the Quran down, get up off your knees, and come out with your hands up!” Klayman ends his screed with a warning that although “I do not advocate violence, it is time we show Obama that we mean business and he would be well advised to ride off into his Islamic sunset, link up with 72 virgins and party on at his expense – not ours!”..'”
I think we’ve all expected Beck to personally call for the impeachment of Barack Obama. Funny thing is, the man is such a narcissist he thinks that he can call for the impeachment of a POTUS and people will actually listen to him. Oh, the arrogance. I wonder if he shed a fake tear when he said it?
I think this says it all:
“…Rush Limbaugh took the top spot in Right Wing News’ annual ranking of the most influential people on the right — which, interestingly enough, included only two elected officials. The website said Limbaugh is “the biggest right wing talk radio host in America, a generation of conservatives grew up listening to him, and he’s capable of making news, killing legislation, and selling tens of thousands of books any time he opens his mouth.”Rounding out the top 10 were Matt Drudge of the Drudge Report; former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin; political strategist and commentator Karl Rove; House Speaker John Boehner; Fox News talking head Sean Hannity; U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts; the Koch Brothers; U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz , R-Texas;and Glenn Beck, the popular radio commentator, TV personality and author….”
Let’s face it. The real problem here is that the US has a POTUS who is of mixed racial heritage.
I don’t know when I’ve been so disappointed in a politician as I am of Steve Pearce. I trusted this man. He stood talking to me, one day, telling he and his wife were going to be praying for my mother, who was recovering from surgery. He was so damn kind. Now this!
Pearce has signed on to Idaho’s Raul Labrador (a Mormon who is shoving his religious values – which are NOT Christian – down our throats) Unconstitutional anti-same sex marriage hate bill. I guess the irrational hatred makes sense. Some so-called “Christian” minister blamed the disasters in Colorado on ‘Decadent Homosexual Activity, etc. Labrador’s version of ‘religious’ freedom protects people who want to discriminate against gays & lesbians by denying them basic Constitutional rights, including tax deductions for charitable donations.
While we’re at it, I really don’t care how badly you think of me. Mormons are not ‘Christians’. Their theology is not Christian. No matter how they package their religion, it is not Christian. But, that really doesn’t matter to the far right. They are using parts of LDS theology, packaging it, and selling it to ignorant, brainwashed, far right ‘Christians’ who are basically perverting the teachings of Christ.
Then there is abortion.
The United States of Koch is rapidly turning into a theocracy ruled over by a small group of increasingly irrational demigods from the religious right. Did you really think Texas would stop at their current version of abortion control? Nope, now they’re going to introduce legislation basically ending abortion at no more than six weeks.
Bryan Fischer says that Americans have a patriotic duty to worship God. That’s fine for him to say, but the problem is that he’s violating the Constitution by making such a foolish statement.
One of the things that has truly haunted me, the past year or so, is when someone challenged me to do a study about abortion in the Bible. I don’t mind saying that I was absolutely shocked – totally and completely shocked. Please, do not get me wrong, or make false accusations against me. I find the idea of abortion to be morally repugnant. As far as I am concerned, abortion for birth control is nothing more than murder. But, I pride myself on being honest. What is written here, is what I found.
“…The Bible says nothing whatsoever about abortion. It never mentions the subject, not once, neither in the Old Testament nor the New. This isn’t because abortion was unknown in the ancient world. Much to the contrary, the ancient Greeks and Romans were well-acquainted with the idea. Surviving writings from these cultures recommend the use of herbs like pennyroyal, silphium and hellebore to induce abortion; others advise vigorous physical activity to cause a miscarriage, and some even discuss surgical methods.
It’s impossible to imagine that no Jewish or Christian woman in the ancient world ever had to deal with an unwanted pregnancy. Thus, it’s reasonable to conclude that the Bible’s authors never mention abortion because they weren’t especially concerned about it. This often forces modern Christian anti-choicers to resort to laughable rationalizations like, “It was so unthinkable that an Israelite woman should desire an abortion that there was no need to mention this offense in the criminal code.” (This, in a book whose authors thought it worthwhile to set down the punishment for having a threesome with your wife and mother-in-law.)
There are later Christian writings that explicitly mention and forbid abortion, such as the Didache. But none of these documents made it into the canon of the Bible, which must be frustrating for modern anti-choicers who’d love to have a “clobber verse” they can throw at women seeking to exercise control over their own bodies….”
The real problem is the far right outrage machine. It is in the media. It is online. It is micro-managed by the Koch Machine, the John Birch Society, ALEC, and their Tea Party sipping media cronies. The worst of it is the media. How much of it is racist? FOX is the perfect example.
The problem with this is that they are terminally stupid. Take Brian Kilmeade who can’t tell the difference between the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Another of the worst is Jerome Corsi, who now thinks that Obama is a commie plot.
There. I said it. It’s like my economic hero, Paul Krugman slamming the GOP for what they did on Friday.
“...Some pundits insist, even now, that this is somehow Mr. Obama’s fault. Why can’t he sit down with Mr. Boehner the way Ronald Reagan used to sit down with Tip O’Neill? But O’Neill didn’t lead a party whose base demanded that he shut down the government unless Reagan revoked his tax cuts, and O’Neill didn’t face a caucus prepared to depose him as speaker at the first hint of compromise.
No, this story is all about the G.O.P. First came the southern strategy, in which the Republican elite cynically exploited racial backlash to promote economic goals, mainly low taxes for rich people and deregulation. Over time, this gradually morphed into what we might call the crazy strategy, in which the elite turned to exploiting the paranoia that has always been a factor in American politics — Hillary killed Vince Foster! Obama was born in Kenya! Death panels! — to promote the same goals.
But now we’re in a third stage, where the elite has lost control of the Frankenstein-like monster it created.
So now we get to witness the hilarious spectacle of Karl Rove in The Wall Street Journal, pleading with Republicans to recognize the reality that Obamacare can’t be defunded. Why hilarious? Because Mr. Rove and his colleagues have spent decades trying to ensure that the Republican base lives in an alternate reality defined by Rush Limbaugh and Fox News. Can we say “hoist with their own petard”?
Of course, the coming confrontations are likely to damage America as a whole, not just the Republican brand. But, you know, this political moment of truth was going to happen sooner or later. We might as well have it now….”
The GOP is being pushed by the tea parties. The tea parties are funded by the Koch Machine. The idiot legislation that is coming from ALEC.
“…Republicans made little secret their goal in preventing economic recovery and killing jobs was to deny Obama a second term. However, their criminal activity has continued unabated well into the President’s second term and it is further proof the not-so-secret conspiracy is emasculating the economy to allow their wealthy Wall Street and corporate donors the ability to privatize the federal government. On Sunday Speaker Boehner claimed Republicans were serving the will of the American people, but at no time in the nation’s history have the people supported any party’s attempt to destroy the economy or prevent economic growth. Whether it is the Republican adherence to Libertarian ideology or portraying Barack Obama as incompetent, their four-year conspiracy is criminal. Every policy and agenda Republicans put forth is in direct opposition to the will of the people and borders on criminal conspiracy to destroy the federal government’s ability to function, and for their efforts and to preserve the Union, they deserve investigations, prosecutions where possible, and removal from office as the criminals they have proven to be over four-and-a-half conspiratorial years….”
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king’s horses
and all the King’s men
couldn’t put Humpty together again!
