The conservative world has a little problem. Slings and arrows like to point toward liberals when it comes to sexual sins, but lately, we’re hearing more about the religious right, and the extreme right when it comes to some truly nasty stuff. For years, I’ve been telling people that Chris Simcox, one of the founders of the Minutemen et. al, was allegedly a pedophile. Now it is no longer alleged, and he is a convicted pedophile.
Larry Klayman, who, this very day, is trying to stage a coup and force Barack Obama from office has been battling allegations of inappropriate behavior with his children. Just this last week, Doug Phillips of Vision Forum resigned under allegations of having sinned. Rumor has it, he sinned with an underage woman.
There are ongoing rumors about pedophilia within the more conservative Mennonite world. The Amish have the highest instance of incest of any socio-economic gorup in the country. According to a recent report, pedophilia within the Sovereign Grace Ministries is about to explode. Billy Graham’s grandson, Boz Tchividjian has been investing sex abuse in the Christian mission field. He says it is far worse than abuse within the Catholic church. He also says that evangelicals are far more arrogant about the abuse, refusing, quite often, to do anything about it.
Unlike the ECUSA, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church, USA, United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church, as well as Unitarian Universalist Association, the Southern Baptist Church is doing NOTHING about pedophiles within their own denomination. Then, I found something absolutely chilling.
“...Nowadays, I see so much of Texas Baptists’ complicity in clergy sex abuse and cover-ups, and so much of Texas Baptists’ bullying and intimidation tactics against those who speak out about abuse that, sometimes, I think some Texas Baptists couldn’t possibly get any badder if they tried. But then I ponder the long history of connections between Texas Baptists and the Texas Klan. And then I run across an article like this one about Brann. And then I remember just how deeply entrenched violence actually is in the institutionalized heart of Texas Baptists….”
And then there is this bit of information that made me almost physically ill. In October, Christopher Kloman, a retired 74-year-old teacher pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting several female students under the age of fourteen. H thinks he molested girls less than ten times between 1966 and 1985. We all know that is the tip of the iceberg. What is so disgusting is the people who have directly intervened to keep Kloman out of prison.
Let’s start with former ABC News anchor Charlie Gibson, former GOP Congressman James K. Coyne, III, and Margaret Whitehead, who was a former aid to Laura Bush, and Ken Starr. Yes, THAT Ken Starr. Yes, it is enough to leave a person physically ill.
Evidently, if a person has rich and famous friends, their friends will try to get him off the hook. I don’t even know what to say, do you? I do think this dispels any possible argument anyone on the right can make about the left and moral deviancy. Evidently pedophilia is an equal opportunity seducer.
