Charles Koch’s Free Society (or) Carthage Must Be Destroyed!

According to an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, Charles Koch (R-Co-Ruler of the Universe) pens that he is fighting to restore a free society.  One wonders just how free it actually is, for he and his brother David.  They have spent hundreds of millions of money earned the hard way, from Daddy Fred (who also believed in a free society – as long as the inhabitants were white), to achieve their so-called free society.   The Koch version of freedom certainly isn’t free, but they can now legally purchase every politician in the country, thanks to the best Supreme Court their money can buy.

In an op-ed that reads like talking points for the Rush Limbaugh Show, or Fox News – oh, wait, the Koch’s basically control the Supreme Court, FOX, the GOP, what comes out of Rush Limbaugh’s mouth – and anything spoon fed to the average brainwashed far right non-thinking devotee of conservative news.

“…“I’ve been told by lots of people, ‘Don’t pick a fight. They’re wealthy. They’re very vengeful.’ But without sounding too melodramatic, if not me, then who?” Reid told reporters in his Capitol office on Thursday. “I am after the two [Koch] brothers. They are two people who are trying to buy America. They have the money to do it.”…”

Charles Koch’s version of a free society is one where workers have no rights.  His free society is one where the environment may be polluted at will, poisoning us all, slowly.  His free society has private prisons where human rights are something for the third world, but not this country.  His free society has privatized schools, where the poor souls being subjected to a sub-par education where they no longer know comprehend critical thinking.

In a Koch version of the free society the minimum wage doesn’t exist.  Neither do worker’s rights.  Police are privatized. Roads are privatized.  Fire fighting is privatized.  If you can’t pay, you don’t get medical care.  No money – no food.  The world is a dirty, filthy, unfair place where only the ultra wealthy manage to thrive. Oh, wait, we’re living in the Koch world, now.  It’s a world envisioned by Ayn Rand, BTW.

A few weeks ago Harry Reid declared war on the Koch Brothers.  Evidently this ‘war’ is starting to get under Charles Koch’s very thin skin. I’ve never been a fan of Harry Reid.  Fact is, I think, next to a few miscellaneous Republican Senate Majority Leaders, he is one of the worst.  But, he is doing something right – making the Koch Brothers squirm.  Sure, he’s getting a few facts wrong.  The Koch Brothers aren’t the richest family in the world, they’re the 6th wealthiest.  The Waltons are the wealthiest, not that they earned any of their wealth, either.

But, darn if I don’t agree with him for going at the Koch Brothers!

“…The Koch brothers and other moneyed interests are influencing the politics in a way not seen for generations. Republican senators have come to the floor to defend the Koch brothers’ attempt to buy our democracy. Once again, Republicans are all in to protect their billionaire friends. Not only have Senate Republicans come to the floor to defend the Koch brothers personally, they have again and again defended the Koch brothers’ radical agenda — and it is radical, at least from the middle-class perspective…”

Frankly, I didn’t think Harry Reid had it in him.  What he is doing is a thing of beauty, taking a page from Cato the Elder.  Now, instead of  “Ceterum autem censeo Carthaginem esse delendam” (Carthage must be destroyed), the Koch Brothers must be destroyed!  On his web site, he even has his version of Luther’s Ninety-Nine Thesis.

He is framing the 2014 election the way it should be framed. It is about the Democrats verses the Koch Brothers.  The right is ranting because Reid mentions that the Kochs pay little or no taxes.  We really don’t know how much they pay or don’t pay because the company is private and they are extremely secretive.  One would suspect, though, if they were paying a whole lot of taxes, they’d be telling everyone the rate.

In one way, Mitch McConnell is right.  The Dems are fighting an uphill battle in 2014, if you play a statistical game, the way I do.  It is the last mid-term of a POTUS administration.  The party of the seated president always loses, big time.  If past history is any indication, the Democrats have real problems in November.   They need to focus on a clear ‘enemy’, and the Koch Brothers are the enemy of 99% of the people in this country.   Many Americans are seeing such an erosion of status, buying power, and income that even being ‘middle class’ is in danger.  While the abject incompetence of the Obama Administration is not helping things, the economic policies embraced by the Kochs and pimped out to their political whores in the House and Senate have ruined this country, destroying the American dream.  The situation is so dreary in this country, with such a drop in income, status, and hope for the future, if the GOP can find a normal (non libertarian) candidate who can push an agenda of very real economic recover and being positive, the Dems are going to be slaughtered in 2016.  All someone needs do is what Reagan did, asking if people are better off now than they were before Obama took office.  Most of us aren’t.

In this country, thanks to the woeful economic policies of Obama, the average American is looking at downward mobility.  While the Obama Administration has not created the policies that are ruining us, it is obvious he is doing nothing to promote the growth of industry, other than giving lip-service to a rise in minimum wage.  The only way we are going to be able to recover, economically, is to turn our backs on libertarian and conservative economic policies (and Obama is more conservative than Reagan) and embrace the monetary policies advocated by the likes of Paul Krugman and Elizabeth Warren.

With all their billions and their power, the way the basically control the political message in this country, it is obviously Charles Koch has yet to be able to figure out how much it will take to buy Harry Reid.  Wouldn’t it be remarkable if the man weren’t for sale?  After all, everyone else in DC is.

All Harry Reid wants to do, allegedly is expose the Koch Brothers the way they are exposing opposition political candidates.  After less than a week of his policy, Charles Koch is already crying about it like the spoiled little rich kid he is.  If he isn’t careful, Harry Reid is going to end up on their enemies’ list.
