Have you ever wondered what it will take for elected officials to be held accountable for what they have done? In some states, there are mechanisms in place to ensure that some elected officials must answer for their ‘sins’. Here in New Mexico, forget it. It’s not going to happen. When it comes to Susana Martines, the Koch supported Republican governor, apparently most of the state is turning a blind eye to her corruption and the claims of cronyism, not to mention her abject incompetence.
“…The latest Republican “star” to find themselves in the midst of a corruption scandal is New Mexico governor, Susana Martinez. According to a 22 page complaint filed in February on behalf of two whistleblowers, a company owned by Martinez’s Secretary for New Mexico’s Department of Economic Development secretly benefitted from a state tax credit program. The complaint further alleges that Jon Barela and his Deputy, Barbara Brazil, “ignored waste and mismanagement” at the state’s Spaceport project in southern New Mexico. Brazil allegedly ran several Dairy Queen Franchises while she was on New Mexico’s payroll. The complaint goes on to allege that Martinez instructed a staff member to conduct “sensitive government business “on his personal email account to evade public record requests….”
It is rather an irony considering that the state’s Economic Development is involved. Just what, pray tell, has Susana Martinez done about economic development, other than pander to her gas & oil friends.
“…Since their firings, Saenz and Eastwood’s complaint states, “each had their characters and professional reputations defamed, each was ‘black-listed’ and/or refused employment for positions within the state of New Mexico and outside governmental agencies that they were fully qualified to perform.” The defendants in the case have requested a jury trial….”
Don’t worry, she’s still on the VP short list, which should say something about the abjectly dismal prospects and talent the GOP has these days. If the Kochs want her, she’s in, and she’s snuggling up to Chuck & Dave when-ever possible.
