Dealing with a Bad Day

SCAN2631My father’s funeral service is at 4:30 today.  I’m not quite sure what to write, or how to write it.  Instead, I’m going to just fall back on Verdi and my favorite baritone, Dmitri Hvorostovsky.  For those who don’t know the story, Rigoletto is about an over-protective father and his nubile daughter who doesn’t want to be protected.  Verdi had a special place in his heart, for the relationship between fathers and daughters, having lost his daughters, at a very young age.  He turned his heart-ache into some of the most beautiful music ever written, when it comes to dealing with the relationship between a father and child.  His fathers were always baritones. He had a special place in his writing for baritones, being one himself.  They are called Verdi Baritones.  We simply refer to them as barihunks!   In my life, opera has been the most perfect expression of emotion, how I feel.

Enough said…
