I’ve been predicting that the Democrats are facing an uphill battle in November. The are several reasons for this. First, Barack Obama isn’t entirely innocent. He’s in his 6th year of office. The bloom is off the rose, he’s damaged goods, tarnished, and a drag on his party. No, it isn’t because he’s an especially bad POTUS. He’s a good, decent, and honorable man. The problem is the 6 Year Itch. When it was announced that US Senate hopeful GOP Allen Weh was within something like 4 or 5 points of Democrat Tom Udall, something is going on here. No, it’s not really Obama. It’s that pesky old 6 Year Itch.
It happens to the best of ’em. Six years into a POTUS term and people are antsy, looking for change, and just plain sick and tired of the same old same old, no matter how good or bad that status quo is. It’s as predictable as the rain on the Fourth of July. The POTUS party in power is going to lose during that annoying sixth year. It doesn’t matter what the POTUS does or tries, he/she is gonna’ lose. They can’t help it. It’s life in the fast lane.
Things wouldn’t be so bad if we weren’t looking at another Koch Majority. When this happens, and I think it’s probably a done deal, look for things in this country to get much worse. This happens and we’re screwed. Frankly, I think we’re screwed as a nation, anyway.
Obama is not to blame for the mess the Dems are facing at the polls. He’s not entirely innocent, either. Quite frankly, I think his Russia/Ukraine policy is disturbing. I think he needs to dump his Secretary of State. The CDC has not helped him. For we the little people, the nation’s economy is still terribly bad, with no sign of recovery. In many ways the poor man is almost clueless. He’s lost his fight. He caved on health care, giving us this monster ACA that is a total and complete joke. But – he’s doing the best he can – or is he. Frankly, I think he should have taken no prisoners when dealing with the GOP, but they’ve basically damaged him to the point where he’s going to be lucky to get out and not be considered one of the worst presidents in modern history. Frankly, I blame it on John Kerry.
I hope I’m wrong. I pray I’m wrong.
It’s a little like inside baseball. I learned my baseball by watching Sparky Anderson, the legendary skipper of the legendary Big Red Machine. Sparky played statistical baseball. Statistical inside politics says that the 6th year of an administration, any administration is going to see almost a blood bath in that person’s party. I think we’re looking at what could be a pending bloodbath.
I hope I’m wrong.
