One of the most famous arias in all of opera is Votre toast or the Toreador Song. It is a baritone show piece, a show-stopper if properly sung by the proper barihunk. I don’t mind admitting, even though it may be the most common baritone aria of them all, it is one of my favorites. Fact is, for ages it was one of my ring tones – done by Dmitri Hvorostovsky.
I love comparing vocalists. So, let’s have at it. Once again I admit my prejudice for Sherrill Milnes, the greatest of them all. I’ve also found something quite rare – a video of the legendary Robert Merrill performing the aria! I also found a video of Leonard Warren!
I’m prejudiced. Guess which one I like the best, or having saved it for last?
