The Actual Numbers

Once again, those nasty little percentages of race on race crime are quite revealing.

Statistics and percentages are a wonderful thing.  They can highlight an issue, and tell us exactly what we want to know, or what someone wants us to know.  They can change our minds, make us angry, and drive us up a wall.  They can be used to manipulate an issue, and manipulate entire populations.  To me, one of the worst offenders is the Alzheimer’s Association.  They tell us that 1 in 3 seniors will die of AD or some other version of dementia.  What’s new, pray tell?  They tell us that AD cannot be prevented nor cured.  Frankly, I think they’re lying about that one.  They don’t want a cure.  It would put an end to the gravy train. Currently 5.3 million people in the US have AD.  That’s a horrific number. There are close to 320 million people in the US.  In other words, approximately 2% of the population have AD.  That means that 98% does not have it.  AD has been turned into a nightmare disease.  Having survived it, I know otherwise.  This though, is not about AD.  I am, though, using it as an example

In 2013, according to the FBI, there were 5,928 hate crime incidents reported in 2013.  That’s a horrible number.  In many ways, it is a laughable number.  We have a population of approximately 320 million people.  There were basically 6,000 hate crimes committed by 320 million people here in the US.  Of those approximately 6,000 hate crimes, 20% were about sexual orientation. Then around 17% was due to religion.  Racial based hate comes were about 49%.  Okay, that means that of the approximately 6000 hate crimes,  3407 were due to race.  Whites kill whites and blacks kill blacks.

First, the FBI percentages appear to be wrong. But, what do I know.  I have dyslexia.  Breaking it down, of those 3407 instances, of racial hate, 66% were against blacks.  That’s approximately 2500 or so instances of racial hatred against blacks.  The shocking number is that  21.4% of racial hate crimes were against whites.  Go figure that one.  I thought whites committed all hate crimes, but according to the FBI, of the 5814 identified perpetrators of hate crimes, ONLY 52.4% were white.  In other words, approximately 3000 or so instances were committed by whites while 24.3% (approximately 1395.36) were committed by blacks.

There are approximately 320 million people in the United States. Approximately 250 million of us are white, with 40 million being black.  Of mixed race, there are about 10 million. You want to crunch those numbers?  If we use those lose numbers, that means that approximately 249,997,000 of those of us who are white did NOT commit a race based crime in 2013 against someone who was black.  Of the approximately 40 million persons who are black, 39,998,605 did not commit a hate crime against someone who was white.  What is truly eye opening is that there are approximately 6 times more white people in the US than there are blacks.  In other words, if you play the percentages, it appears that more blacks commit hate crimes against whites? Like I said, I’m dyslexic, but it looks like (and I am totally and completely shocked) both black and white Americans are equally good at hate.  The thing is, if you pay attention to the numbers, there is very much a parity in hate crimes, to the point where the hysteria is unwanted.

South Carolina is now considered one of the most racist states in the US – because of the tracking of the ‘N’ word.

Yet, according to 538, SC is constantly ranked in the lower half of the country when it comes to actual numbers of hate crimes.

“…Southern Poverty Law Center has compiled 4,121 hate incidents nationwide between January 2003 and May 2015. (The SPLC defines these as “incidents of apparent hate crimes and hate group activities … drawn primarily from media sources.” In addition to assaults and acts of vandalism, the count includes things like rallies held by hate groups as well as legal developments in hate-crime cases.) A little over 1 percent of those, or 47, were in South Carolina. Based on the state’s population in 2009, the middle of the period covered, that works out to 10.3 hate incidents per million people over the 12-year period. The national rate is 13.4 hate incidents per million people. South Carolina’s rate is the 31st highest among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The latest crime statistics compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation paint a similar picture. In 2013, agencies in every state but Hawaii, plus Washington, D.C., reported hate-crime statistics to the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting program. South Carolina had 51 reported hate crimes, 33 of them motivated by racial bias. That’s 10.7 hate crimes per million 2013 residents — which was the 34th highest rate among the 49 states and D.C. — and 6.9 motivated by racial bias, which was 33rd highest…”

Here is another annoying little chart that shows hate crimes are not limited to the South.

According to Little Green Footballs, Kyle Rogers of the CofCC dumped his twitter account.  He had something like 40,000 followers.  There is a difference between patriot, anti-government groups, and white supremacists.  Frankly, I’m not as frightened of the ‘average’ white supremacist.  They get a little scary when they merge with neo-Nazi groups.  That’s where the killing is.  Patriot and anti-government movements, like the Bundy Ranch debacle are different from southern pride rednecks. The problem is when you have a merger of patriot groups, militias, and the neo-Nazis.  We are being told that the FBI is concerned about domestic terror.  It should be. If you check their most wanted list, there are no right wingers on it.  Almost every one of them is far left.

  1. I wish there were more detailed numbers on actual hate. Unfortunately, I’ve heard of people using the “N” word everywhere. I’ve heard it more in Florida than anywhere else. I’ve heard more hatred spewed toward Hispanics in Arizona than anywhere else. I could tell you stories about hatred toward Hispanics, right here, where I live, even today, that would enrage you. It is hate. It is discrimination, and within certain levels of the Federal government, it is endemic. No one even wants to go there. In all honesty, what I’ve experienced in my life, watching how people act, I’ve noticed far more anti-Hispanic hate than hatred toward other minorities.
