Unfortunately, there are a heck of a lot of people out there who pretend to be Christians who give all of us a bad name. There are lot of Christians out there who give us a bad name. Frankly, if I weren’t a Christian, and did not understand the miracle of Salvation, I’d consign the whole bloody bunch to hell. The thing is, I am a Christian and I understand the amazing miracle, the soul changing miracle of Salvation. It truly is something quite supernatural. I don’t understand it. I am a total skeptic about just about everything in life. I don’t do paranormal, but I do think there are ghosts. It’s a great story, that had to be proven to me.
I’m skeptical about just about everything, including romance. I live near Roswell and don’t do aliens or UFOs. I’m not all that into the whole superficial ‘angel’ thing. I’m skeptical of most religious people. Fact is, I don’t like religious people. I don’t like being around them.
People like Kim Davis don’t help the cause. I have no doubt she has a valid conversion story. She changed her life. I suspect, had she been in the current situation, before her conversion, she would go ahead and allow the licenses. That’s the problem. She is truly following her conscience. If you want my honest opinion, I think the people who want the licenses are setting her up, to truly destroy her. The reason I say this is, if they wanted too, they could drive less than 30 minutes from Moorehouse, and get the same license, which is valid anywhere in Kentucky. They are being just as pig-headed as she is. And, she is breaking the law, and they have a right to get their license there in Moorehouse.
In the Book of Common Prayer we have a special prayer for people like Kim Davis.
For those who suffer for the sake of Conscience: O God our Father, whose Son forgave his enemies while he was suffering shame and death: Strengthen those who suffer for the sake of conscience; when they are accused, save them from speaking in hate; when they are rejected, save them from bitterness; when they are imprisoned, save them from despair; and to us your servants, give grace to respect their witness and to discern the truth, that our society may be cleansed and strengthened. This we ask for the sake of Jesus Christ, our merciful and righteous Judge. Amen.
I go back to what I wrote, yesterday. If Kim Davis were issuing marriage licenses for the LGBT community, even if the law forbade it, she would be hailed a hero by the same people who are damning her. It is truly sad when people who celebrate standing on conscience only celebrate it when the person doing the standing on conscience agree with their agenda.
When you see comments about people like Davis, and about Christians in general, on sites like Raw Story, it is truly reprehensible. People have left such nasty replies about what I’ve said, they’ve been deleted. A heck of a lot of people out there hate Christians, many for good reason. Then again, many simply hate anything a Christian does because they hate Christ.
There is a bottom line. If you truly believe in Christ, you stand with Christ, first, and with Caesar, secondly. Christ comes first. This said the Greatest Commandment is all about love. The problem with this is that Kim Davis belongs to a denomination which is one of those heretical groups. Her version of Christian is not quite the Episcopalian version. (For an excellent discussion of what she believes)
