The Stupidity of Planned Parenthood

Screen Shot 2015-09-03 at 10.37.00 PMYes, they are stupid.  Planned Parenthood is its own worst enemy.  They have allowed themselves to be painted into a corner as abortion providers.  Never mind that only THREE PERCENT – 3% – of their services are about abortions.  They take no federal funds for abortion.  None of that matters.  I have never seen such a group of allegedly smart people so stuck on stupid.  They either refuse to change the narrative or they don’t want to change it.

Planned Parenthood is synonymous with abortion.  From what I can ascertain, watching this dog and pony side show for years is that they don’t bother changing this perception.  It is like they just plain old don’t give a damn, and wear ‘abortion provider’ as a badge of honor.  We’re talking two different worlds here. The right hears the “Planned Parenthood” word and automatically thinks abortion.  The left hears the word “Planned Parenthood” and automatically starts thinking abortion.  But – they don’t think about it in the same way.  We’re talking apples & oranges, and a failure to communicate.  If you want to see the problems with communication in this country, in a microcosm.

Never mind the actual facts – provable facts, not ‘truth’.  Not editorial, just the facts.  Just the facts are that the fib the left tells to keep Planned Parenthood viable for moderates is that they are a leading entity for breast cancer screenings.  They are not.   Planned Parenthood provides nearly 400,000 Pap tests and nearly 500,000 breast exams each year, critical services in detecting cancer. Yet, the right says that the primary business for Planned Parenthood is abortion.  That is far from true.  Only 3% of their activities are abortion related, yet the religious right needs the far right fib to keep them enraged.   From what I can find, Planned Parenthood may be a tad dishonest about breast cancer screening.   There were over 158.6 million women in the United States in 2009.  They provide 500,000 breast cancer screenings – and there are around 160 million women in the US.  It is entirely possible the ACA may render the services provided by Planned Parenthood re: cancer screenings a thing of the past.

“...Planned Parenthood gets about $450 million annually in federal funds, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Of that, about $390 million is Medicaid reimbursements and another $60 million is Title X family-planning grant funding…”

Quite frankly, I think it is as disingenuous for Planned Parenthood to say one of their missions in life is cancer screening and prevention as it is for the right to say their mission in life is to provide abortions. Neither side is right.  The bottom line is the real problem with the right is that they see the real mission, contraceptives and STD testing and screening as ‘sin’.  Forget the fact that statistics show that over 95% of people in this country are indulging in or have indulged in sex outside of marriage. The right is delusional.  The left is delusional. And, no, we cannot get along, there are too many opposing agendas. Both parties are manipulating the agendas.

There is no logical answer for the drama from Planned Parenthood – unless one realizes they, like the far right, is milking the situation for all it is worth.  Both sides are nothing but attention whores.  There is no other logical reason Planned Parenthood does not give itself a PR make-over, showcasing what they do.  There is no other logical reason for the right not to grasp the fact that Planned Parenthood offers 97% additional services besides abortion assistance. They could not be drama queens and get as much attention.

Let’s face it, the left and the right both have a symbiotic relationship with Planned Parenthood.  Both sides live for Congressional hearings, and the public relations bonanza they provide.  Neither side is being honest. Neither side ever will.  When push comes to shove, they need each other to survive.  When you start looking at the nitty-gritty facts, Planned Parenthood has a PAC.  It does not appear to donate to Republicans.  They do have a political agenda.  So does the anti-abortion right.

A pox on both their houses.
