Papal Over-Reach

Screen Shot 2016-02-12 at 7.58.37 AMI am a fan of Pope Francis.  Unfortunately, I think he is over-stepping this time, when he is trying to state that there are no national borders.  The media is using it to turn the GOP into monsters for wanting strict border security.  I think the man is meddling in our national politics, and had no place meddling.

This is NOT about people coming into this country, illegally.  I have been outspoken in my belief that people who have made it here, illegally, especially children, should be allowed to stay in this country.  One of the things that angers me most is when these people are sent back to countries where they no longer belong.

BUT… Pope Francis is now going to encourage more illegal immigration across our borders.  Today, it is more dangerous than ever.  I’m not thinking about this side of the border, but the other side.  It is a lethal journey.  Anywhere between 80% to 90% of women and girls who make this journey will be sexually molested along the way.  The man’s saintly kindness is getting in the way of reality.

The migrant children who are coming here to escape gangs and no future will be sent home, to a life of drugs, violence, degradation, and horror.

Along with these people who are honest, just trying to make a better life, are drug mules, pedophiles, rapists, and extremely bad people, who are not only using the ‘system’ but are manipulating these people as they travel with them.

It upsets me.  A lot of people are going to have their lives destroyed because of Pope Francis’ gesture.  And, unfortunately, it is political.  I rather resent it.  Countries have borders for reasons.  Those borders need to be respected, I don’t care where they are.  I just know what is going to happen.  It is irresponsiblePeople die crossing the border.  Doesn’t the man grasp the geography of the situation?   This isn’t about politics, this is humanitarian.

Pope Francis is a humanitarian.  I just have a difficult time understand why he doesn’t get the danger out there.  Thousands of people a year die making this crossing.  His grandstanding is going to cost additional lives.

Very poorly done.

Personally, I have no problem with people from the Americas looking for a better life.  We are a nation of immigrants.  I don’t have a problem with people from the Americas trying to get here, period.  My concern is the danger of the journey, the lives lost, and the fact that it is almost a given that any woman or girl who makes the journey will end up raped.

Frankly, I don’t quite think the Church grasps rape and sexual assault.  If they did, this journey would not be encouraged.
