The Ignorance of Political Newbies

Screen Shot 2016-02-14 at 12.11.05 PMI think everyone should be involved in the political process. I believe so strongly in this that I think anyone who is not involved in the process and who does not vote should keep their big fat mouths shut, already yet.  I also think people who live in the US, who are not US Citizens, and have the option of becoming citizens, and don’t, should also shut up about the process.  They need to put their money where their mouths are, literally.

Social media is a blessing and a curse when it comes to bring newcomers into the political process.  It’s great to see new people being involved.  But, when they constantly show their abject ignorance of the process, and how things work, then treat those of us who do, like dirt, they need to sit back and learn how things work.

It doesn’t matter which party, progressive or far right, the more ideological they are, the ruder they are.  They think they know everything, and know very little.  Their lack of knowledge about civics and how things work, specially how our government works, and how political processes work is monumental.  It is as monumental as their ego.

For some strange reason they think little slogans, and cute sayings, photos, and spreading hate about the opposition on social media is going to win friends and influence people.  It doesn’t.  They have no earthly idea how to be an activist, and know way too much for anyone to tell them anything.

They hate the opposition, not quite comprehending that it politics.  You argue then you’re friends.  In many ways, they are the ones who are helping to propel the nastiness that has over-taken the political scene in this country.

The problem with anyone newly involved in an ideological crusade is their zealotry.  A person who is a zealot cannot be rational nor think clearly. Big-league politics are for the rational of thought, not the ideological zealot.

Zealotry clouds the thinking process.

I swear political newbies don’t think, they just emote.  The death of Antonin Scalia has brought out the worst in zealots and newbies on both sides.  Forget class, they have none.  All they have is emotion and hatred.  It is not a good combination.
