At least a third of the women murdered in this country are killed by a male romantic partner. If you want to do something viable with gun control, start prohibiting men who have even been accused of being abusive of owning guns (until they are cleared of abusive). If they are found to be abusive, put them on a watch list and never allow them to own a firearm. Unfortunately, abused women don’t feel like they can get help for abuse. A woman is repeatedly abused before she will go for help. Once she does, the chances of her survival have been decreased, exponentially. But, in our world, today, women like this still battle to be heard. Time after time, women are slaughtered by the men who abuse them, men with guns, men who get away with it long enough to murder them. If the abuser is in law enforcement, the situation is even more lethal. Why can’t these women be protected?
In Roswell, on Saturday, Juan David Villegas-Hernandez slaughtered his wife ,Cynthia, and daughters, ages 14, 11, 7 and 3. If the crime had occurred somewhere other than New Mexico, it would be all over the news, even on a day when so many other innocent lives were destroyed. But, this is New Mexico. No one pays attention.
These beautiful little girls were murdered by their father this weekend. He has been captured in Mexico.
“…Police identified his wife as 34-year-old Cynthia Villegas and his daughters as Yamilen, 14, Cynthia Janeth, 11, Abby, 7, and Ida, who was just 3 years old.The family lived at a home in the 2300 block of Davis Avenue, where the five victims were found at 11:15 p.m. Saturday….”
Juan Villegas believed his wife was cheating on him, and according to a note he left at the scene of the slaughter, he did not want his children to suffer. The authorities are working on extradition. It is not known if Villegas is in the US, legally. There is some discussion that he was not. The bottom line here was the man was angry with his wife, so he slaughtered she and their four daughters. I suspect, once the investigations are complete, we will discover he was abusive.
