How Long Do We Hate?

screen-shot-2016-12-16-at-12-10-40-amI don’t know about you, but I’m getting tired of the hate.
Enough is enough.
Hate is hate.
It is evil.
Granted, there are various degrees of evil, but hate destroys.
It ruins the hater.
It corrodes the brain, making a person incapable of thinking beyond a certain point.
It blinds a person.
It turns them deaf.
It hardens the heart.
It sucks the soul out from them, leaving them nothing.

If a person claims to be a Christian, they cannot hate.  Oh, they can, but hatred is part of not being able to forgive.  If we cannot forgive, then, according to the Lord’s Prayer, we will not be forgiven.  Forgive us … as we forgive others.  I don’t know about you, but those are the most frightening lines in the entire Bible.

Forgive us – as…

As Robert Frost wrote in one of my favorite poems, Fire and Ice:

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

I can’t think of anything that describes hate so well.  We have a right not to like someone.  We have a right to be contemptuous of that person.  We have a right not to respect someone.  Anything beyond that is treading on very thin ice.
