There are numerous political things one could discuss today, but we need to put life into perspective. I’ve been doing this quite a bit these past two days on Twitter.  Political scandals come and go.  Issues are always there to discuss, but one thing in life is eternal.

Ronald Acuña Jr. is twenty-one years old, born in Venezuela.

“…Baseball runs deep in Acuna’s family. His grandfather, Romualdo Blanco, played in the Minors, and his father, Ronald Acuna Sr., was a Mets prospect who stole 30-plus bases in three seasons. Blanco, a right-handed pitcher, posted a 4.58 ERA in six Minor League seasons, while Acuna Sr. hit .282 over eight years. Acuna is the nephew of Jose Escobar, who reached the big leagues with the Indians in 1991, and his cousins include Royals shortstopAlcides Escobar, former Angels and Blue Jays pitcher Kelvim Escobar, former big league hurlerEdwin EscobarandVicente Campos, who reached the Majors in 2016 and is currently in the Angels farm system. And his younger brother Luisangel Acuna, who just missedMLB Pipeline’s Top 30 International Prospects list, will be eligible to sign with a Major League club when the international signing period begins July 2….”

One of the leading candidates for Rookie of the Year, Acuña made history on Tuesday night.  He became the youngest player in the History of the Game to hit a home run in five consecutive games.   So far he has 19 home runs for the season.  His batting average for the past week or so is up there in lights.

The following is a list of Braves players who have hit five home runs in five consecutive games.  The kid is in incredible company.

Chipper Jones, 2004 – HOF
Ozzie Virgil, 1987
Jeff Burroughs, 1977
Hank Aaron, 1966 – HOF
Joe Adcock, 1956
Eddie Miller, 1940
Rogers Hornsby, 1928 – HOF

It is entirely possible we are watching the rookie season of one of the greats.  That beats politics any old day.
