What Good Is It?

October 18 was the 4th anniversary of my father’s death.  His last lucid words, spoken the previous evening were:  “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.”  He died in Christ.  He left this world doing the thing he enjoyed most, napping.  It was so peaceful, we did not know he was gone, for a minute.

Yesterday, a sinful man died in his sleep.  He made a fortune in vice.  It is a misnomer to concentrate on the man’s sinful nature, other than to mention that I do not think he died in Christ.  He never met the Lord.  His passing is a true tragedy.  My father’s death was just a transition to a life without pain or Alzheimer’s Disease.  He is alive, with Christ.  He is there with my mother, my grandparents,  his brother, and people we cherish.  The man who died yesterday will never know any of this.

What good does it do for a person to gain the world and lose their soul?
