That Merciful Quality of Mercy

A horrific wildfire is raging in Malibu, threatening homes belonging to Hollywood.  Already Catlyn Jenner’s home has gone up in flames.  The mansion belonging to Will Smith is threatened.  Several other Hollywood types have lost their homes.  In northern California an entire town has been lost.  So far, they have discovered five bodies.

I tweeted the headline about Catlyn Jenner.  Someone answered, like it was no big deal.  She’s rich and can afford to replace everything.

What a horrible responsible.

I told him that, asking where his quality of mercy was.

He responded that he had no mercy for rich people who could afford to rebuild.

Wrong answer.

This person claims to be conservative.  I’m sorry, but I don’t know anyone, liberal or conservative who is so nasty.  I told him I’d nearly been there, several times.  There but for the Grace of God go I.

No one should lose their home, their treasures and memories and not be treated without compassion. I don’t care who that person is.  Yes, money makes rebuilding easier,  but it does not bring back personal treasures or beloved pets.

If someone can’t have mercy, can’t feel compassion for those in pain, I really don’t want to be around them.

Do you?
