The other night, The Pink Flamingo was watching one of the great American classics, To Kill a Mockingbird. For those ignorant wretches who have not seen the movie nor read the classic book, you have my pity. Atticus Finch (played by the late, great Gregory Peck) was the ultimate Southern attorney living in a small town. He understood that all men and women are equal, no matter what their color, nor their what was in their pocketbook.
When the haters could not crush Atticus Finch for going against their demands by defending a Black man innocent of the rape charges filed against him by a white trash woman, they tried to kill his children. There’s not much difference between the man who tried to kill the children of Atticus Finch and the tea party “patriots” who try killing the reputations and careers of good and honorable men and women who absolutely refuse to bend to their will.
The Pink Flamingo is terrified of extremes. I see the growing extremism and irrational behavior of the tea parties as just that. It did not start out this way, but it is getting there. The very real problem is the fact that the people involved in the tea parties are failing to weigh the biased information they are receiving from their tin-plated gods like Glenn Beck.
If something is not done to put some of these people in check, and explain the facts of life to them, via American history, we are in for a very terrifying ride, abjectly terrifying. How long will it be before some idiotic tea party twit who is seriously unstable does something like what happened in India over the weekend?
Don’t you just love those adorable little tea party “patriots” who go around proclaiming their love for freedom of speech and the Constitution – as long as they repeal a few amendments and only allow freedom of speech for those they think are pure?
If you check the “recent comments” list on the right, you might just find a whole slew of comments from a “Republican” from South Carolina who goes by the name “Working Tommy C.”. As with many tea party acolytes, he can’t use his real name. It’s all about freedom and independence, right?
“…While I have supported black studies programs and as a trustee, one must really ask whether the demand for a completely autonomous is not in reality a request for sanctuary from the rigors of the institution, a sanctuary from the normal standards? If that is what it is then what in reality, will these students have when they leave the institution, what will they have learned, and will they be able to compete in the outside world. On the other hand, it is possible that you can justify a black studies program on its symbolic value alone. But an all black studies department would not be useful. What we really should do is get some whites into the black studies department to learn something about black people. …” Ronald Reagan!
There are very few times when I disagree with Michael Medved. This is one of them. The other day he was discussing ethnic studies. Rightly he does not actually approve of them. Neither do I in their current form, but the Pink Flamingo thinks one of the very real problems we are facing as a nation is the fact that we Americans have become so insular that we expect cultures to adapt to us. We need not learn anything about others. Once upon a time it was called “The Ugly American”. Today we call it conservative.
Is it possible that the FOX NEWS editorial line to snuggle up to hard-core anti-immigration promoters is tainting their coverage of the news? According to almost every person on FOX, there is NO police brutality against Latinos. It is a myth promoted by the extreme far right. It is no wonder that a FOX affiliate would refuse to air anything that would taint the flagship’s story-line.

The Pink Flamingo is having fun! So are any other number of Republicans if my inbox is any example of the way Scott Brown is being hailed by the GOP.
The other day I told a couple friends that it wouldn’t be long before the far right decided that Scott Brown is too liberal and needs to be ham-strung. Low and Behold Glenn Beck (such a useless idiot) was the first to make an ass of himself, but that is nothing new.

2. Jim DeMint’s Version of the GOP
3. Barney Frank (potential loser)

The Pink Flamingo wants to make a prediction. In six months, Sarah Palin, the darling of the Tea Party “patriots” will be the far right’s public enemy #2, right up there with Lindsey.
She is showing her true – VERY RED – colors!
Sarah Palin is making money off the whole thing. She is not doing this for charity. And – now that the idiots are realizing that they must pay speakers, the you know what that drops out of the rear of Alaskan carribou is about ready to hit the fan.
“…The Tea Party convention, for one, is charging $549 per person for the event—no doubt to pay for Palin’s speaking fee, reportedly as high as $100,000—which has left some supporters queasy about the entire production. “This is the beginning of the end of it as a ground-up movement. Let the co-optation begin,” writes one pro–Tea Party blogger. The buckracking echoes the arrival of groups like the Tea Party Express, which used the name of the grassroots insurrection to raise funds for a longstanding Republican political action committee. As Stephanie Mencimer has reported, such developments have led to major clashes with groups like the “Tea Party Patriots,” who’ve adhered to the anti-establishment, grassroots ethos that originally founded the movement…”
The Pink Flamingo is loving every minute of it.
The Pink Flamingo has been right about Sarah Palin all along (thank heavens) and she is not a far right fringe third party idiot. She is a Republican. Praise the Lord!
Let me state up front, Populist Movements and Populism absolutely repulse me.
Having spent so many years dealing with the after-effects of serious abuse when I was a child (3rd grade elementary school principal) I have a tendency to be rather analytical when dealing with people and groups of people. I also do not mind admitting I am rather stand-offish, do not join things, do not do crowds, and avoid meetings and conferences like the plague. When recovering from serious abuse, if a person wants to “normalize” their personality, then you learn how to look at the world much differently from what you once did. You become highly critical of yourself and learn how to take absolute responsibility for your actions. (I think this is a 12 Step thing, also). In a way you start viewing things with a little bit of cold blooded Vulcan logic.
This said, one of the things I’ve also learned is that there are certain personality types who absolutely refuse to take responsibility for their own action and blame everyone around them. They deal in absolutes, and can be absolute bullies when it comes to their absolute requirements.
Have you ever had someone with whom you had a romantic interest who was more demanding than “usual”? The world must revolve around them. You know something isn’t “quite right” but you just can’t figure what it is, so you end up surrendering a portion of your personality to that person in order to keep peace. Before long you are going to be required to surrender more and more if you do not want your “loved” one shouting profanities, slamming you against the wall, or withdrawing their presence from your life. (Yea, I had one fiancé who wanted to know if I could survive if he withdrew his presence from my life).
There is nothing wrong with a healthy ego and a healthy sense of self. When an ego and a sense of “self” becomes so over-whelming that other egos and another sense of “self” cannot shine through, then we are dealing with a personality disorder. The loved one has a temper tantrum because something does not go their way. While I can see having a tantrum once in awhile, primarily for righteous indignation, having a tantrum when something does not go your way is the sign of a very emotional stunted individual.
The loved one manipulates. They threaten. They blackmail. If they do not get their desired results they destroy. The more civilized person simply destroys the spirit and emotional well-being of those they “love”. If the person does not have certain parameters of a civilized behavior they will literally inflict bodily harm and eventually, if not stopped, kill the object of their “love”.
In other words, there is a certain kind of person who is so certain they are right that they will stop at nothing to prove they are right, and will destroy in order to prove their point. There are times when these individuals happen to be on the fringes of society they have a tendency to bond with other like minded bullies. Their sense of individualism is not as well developed as they project. They become a “group” and a mob. Enfranchised by other like minded individuals, they become more embolden and more extreme.
Some people call it populism. I call it a mob. They are no different from the people who collected around Oliver Cromwell, John Brown or William Quantrill. Left alone, our little bully is simply going to destroy his/her spouse or loved one. As a mob they are terrifying and can bring down monarchies, murder hundreds of people, or help instigate civil war.
Evidently Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck could be in FCC trouble over the way they are promoting “gold”. O’Reilly is …Read the Rest
