The other night, The Pink Flamingo was watching one of the great American classics, To Kill a Mockingbird. For those ignorant wretches who have not seen the movie nor read the classic book, you have my pity. Atticus Finch (played by the late, great Gregory Peck) was the ultimate Southern attorney living in a small town. He understood that all men and women are equal, no matter what their color, nor their what was in their pocketbook.
When the haters could not crush Atticus Finch for going against their demands by defending a Black man innocent of the rape charges filed against him by a white trash woman, they tried to kill his children. There’s not much difference between the man who tried to kill the children of Atticus Finch and the tea party “patriots” who try killing the reputations and careers of good and honorable men and women who absolutely refuse to bend to their will.
“…”I’ve been a military officer most of my adult life, and there are lines you don’t cross,” Graham said. “Those lines were crossed. It was poor judgement, it was beyond poor judgement. It made it virtually impossible for the general to stay in his job.“…” Lindsey Graham
The Pink Flamingo was actually on time for the Wednesday 5:30 service today. (I had Altar Guild). The Feast Day of the Nativity of John the Baptist is on the 25th, exactly 6 months before Christmas. Our most excellent new priest, Judy Burgess, had a great little homily about John the Baptist. (In all fair disclosure, I picture John the Baptist as Newt Gingrich, the voice crying in the wilderness).
The message of today was that John the Baptist repeatedly told everyone he was not The One to Come, that he as a messenger, but not the Messiah. He had no problem being number two, of not being the important one. He was strong enough to know that there was another, the Messiah. The lesson is that there are men and women who are capable of being number two because they know being number two is important.
I miss him so much, just watching the Facebook “Innagural Address” left me in tears!
His love of freedom and democracy is so terribly important, isn’t it everything?
“Thanks for tuning in to my inaugural address — on Facebook. I’ve been touched by the outpouring of interest. I am pleased to report that Laura and I are happy, healthy and home here in the great state of Texas — or as I call it, the Promised Land. Serving as president was the honor of a lifetime, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to represent the nation I love.
On Monday I heard Karl Rove say something that brought tears to my eyes. He said when he goes through airports and encounters members of our military, they ask him to tell the former President how much they miss him.
Remember how Obama made fun of The Great Man’s post 9/11 statement that we do the patriotic thing and shop? Seems like The Great Man is a heck of a lot smarter than Obama. We are consumer based economy. If we do not shop, the economy flops!
The Cato Institute hates George W. Bush and Lindsey Graham, but it will bend over backward to defend pedophiles.
The Pink Flamingo keeps telling you how repulsive and immoral libertarians are. This proves it. This one hits home. I was talking to my mother about their defense of pedophiles. Thank God for George W. Bush. If this bill he signed – damning pedophiles to remain in prison – had been in effect when I was a child, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN MOLESTED by the pedophile who was released from prison because he had served his debt to society.
The SCOTUS upheld the Comstock ruling – thank heavens. Sexual predators may be held in prison, indefinitely – thereby protecting innocent children everywhere. The Cato Institute blames George W. Bush for protecting the innocence of children and damning preditory pedophiles to prison.
GOD BLESS GEORGE W. BUSH!
Any rational thinker knows that the AZ immigration mess is going to seriously damage the GOP. Contrary to the popular lies of the far right talk so demigods, a hard line approach is a sure fire loser for any candidate.
“…And the party’s long-term thinkers worry that the Arizona law is merely a quick political fix which may create a permanent rift with the fastest growing segment of the U.S. electorate.
“It’s like a virus that you get and you don’t feel like you’re unhealthy for the first few days, but after that you have a fever and you’re really sick,” says Matthew Dowd, former President George W. Bush’s chief strategist in 2004. “You can’t win a national election and you can’t win certain states without the Latino vote. And Republicans already had a problem.”
The Great Man uses a Kindle.
According to The Swamp:
“…She says this about the criticism that her husband, the 43rd president of the United States and son of the 41st, fielded during two terms in office — particularly during the second term: “The criticism of political figures is so extreme, that they end up being characterized in a way that they’re not at all. And we knew that. When George’s dad was president, it was very hard for us to tolerate. We hated that. It’s too bad because I think it discourages people from even considering public office.”
From Abe Greenwald
The Great Man spoke:
“…President Bush then spoke frankly about the disturbing change in the country’s attitude toward freedom and democracy abroad. “I am concerned about isolationism,” he said. It was a reifying moment to hear the president so closely associated with the promotion of freedom and human rights state plainly that we must “fight off isolationism,” which is making a return in the public consciousness and policy circles. None of the “false choice,” gray-area equivocation that we’ve come to hear day in and day out over the past year. “If we allow isolation to become a dominant philosophy we forget our own past,” he said. America’s long-active role as engine and projector of freedom abroad is indeed being forgotten with news of each cynical “reset” and every panicking ally….”
The Great Man is still out there, promoting freedom.
According to The Daily Beast, hardly an unbiased source, The Great Man is now being compared to The Pink Flamingo’s mother’s favorite POTUS – Harry Truman.
“…They both gave hell and got hell.
As presidents, George W. Bush and Harry S. Truman had a lot in common.
Both were skeptical of elites and the media, driven by their faith, had troubled presidencies, made momentous and difficult decisions, took the nation into war, were unpopular in their time and weren’t concerned about it. They deeply believed if they did the right thing, history would sort things out in the end….President Truman in 1948:
“The only expansion we are interested in is the expansion of human freedom and the wider enjoyment of the good things of the earth in all countries… The only prize we covet is the respect and good will of our fellow members of the family of nations.”
What part of stupid is so difficult to comprehend?
The usual suspects are completely out of touch when it comes to what is going on along the border. They are living in their little never-never land of immigration reform and hating anyone who crosses them. The problem is drugs, guns, and the out of control war along the border. This is a war that is threatening to spill into this country any day now, with disastrous results.
The Pink Flamingo has been following this story the way everyone else has, only I might see it a bit differently. The ONLY story you can find is how dastardly the illegal was who killed Robert Krentz. Unfortunately, THAT is not the story. The Arizona Attorney General said the murder was consistent with that of a drug cartel killing. Unfortunately the Cochise County Sheriff is not going along with the AG. The usual suspects are using their hatred of anyone Hispanic to promote immigration reform.
“For all who love freedom and peace,
the world without Saddam Hussein’s regime is a better and safer place.”
If former Iraq prime minster Ayed Allawi beat out current prime minster, Mouri al-Maliki, in what appears to be a half-way decent election, even by Florida standards, is George W. Bush the real winner?
The Pink Flamingo is well aware that this constant harping on the far right and the losertarian agenda against the …Read the Rest

Do you feel we are not doomed?
