“…”The House bill is a non-starter in the Senate. I just think the construct out of the House and what exists in the Senate is not going to pass, and I hope and pray it doesn’t because it would be a disaster for the economy and health care,” Graham concluded….
Lindsey says ObamaCare is D. O. A. in the Senate.
“…Well, let’s start with the House bill. The House bill is dead on arrival in the Senate. Just look at how it passed. It passed 220-215. It passed by two votes. You had 40 — 39 Democrats vote against the bill. They come from red states, moderate Democrats from swing districts.
“…“To those people who are pursuing purity, you’ll become a club not a party,” Graham told POLITICO in the Capitol Wednesday. “Those people who are trying to embrace conservatism in a thoughtful way that fits the region and the state and the district are going to do well. Conservativism is an asset. Blind ideology is not.”…”
First things first. Is it possible some of the “war” between moderate and conservative Republicans be a mirror of the friendly battle between South Carolina Senators Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint. There appears to be a major difference of opinion between the two men, with DeMint becoming something of a far right activist, and Lindsey taking a stand that is a proven winner, standing on Reagan’s political principles.
The Pink Flamingo is highlighting what is apparently an attack of “hate” leveled against Lindsey Graham because he dared to behave like an adult. I am highlighting the coordinated attack against Lindsey to prove just how abjectly deranged and full of abject hate the far far far far far right has become. The fact is the far far far far far right’s attack on Lindsey is now so obvious, even liberals are picking up on it. It doesn’t matter how much they lie about what he is actually doing. They simply lie. (Take Cap/Trade)
“…THE storm of conservative fury at Ronald Reagan may have subsided a bit, but, as one of the President’s own men in the White House conceded late last week, ”There are some who are still in a real sour mood.”…”
Once Upon a Time… a very conservative man named Richard Viguerie hated Ronald Reagan, and did everything he could to ruin his Presidency. Today he’s back, crowing about the Tea Party People and how they are now the new GOP. God Help Us All! The problem is only 56% of conservatives consider themselves GOP. If this is true, and this bunch of Tea Party Yahoos are NOT Republican, then tell them
THE PENDING GLENN BECK TRAIN WRECK
Last Monday, yet another creepy episode of Glenn Beck is way over the edge. He is basically asking people to betray the GOP and do something – what ever. The man is a train wreck waiting to happen. If Glenn Beck were to get his way, the Dems would maintain control of the House and the Senate in 2010. If this happens, just kiss our country good-by.
I don’t want to give in to hysteria, but is Glenn Beck a plant for George Soros and the DNC? He certainly isn’t helping the GOP (unless it is over a cliff). He’s helping FOX, and himself, but is in the process of causing what could be perminent and irreperable to the country in the process.
There is a little “buzz phrase” The Pink Flamingo looks for when dealing with the far far far far far right who want you to think they are Republicans.
“I’m for taking the Republican Party back for true conservatives.”
The minute I hear that I think Ron Paul Bot or Glenn Beck Clown School Drop-Out. That one phrase tells The Pink Flamingo we’re not actually dealing with a Republican but someone who is a sore-head, Ross Perot style drop-out, have it my way – OR ELSE!
From Down with Tyranny:
“...NY-23 up near Montreal in northeast New York, has more cows than people– and more Republicans than Democrats. The Inside-the-Beltway and national media have jumped into the race, marveling at how the GOP is managing to screw up their chances there with a vicious intraparty civil war. Watch the video below of Beck calling for a right-wing jihad against the Republican Party establishment in the name of teabaggery and keep in mind that he still has one full week for a full on Vicks Vaporub weeping session before the balloting is over. Even more important to remember, though, is that NY-23 isn’t the only congressional race shaping up to be a showcase for the struggle between mainstream conservatives and the unhinged, Hate-Talk inspired teabaggers trying to capture the GOP….”
‘‘It is unlikely that the Reagan era
will prove to be the historic change
in the direction of America that we have sought.”
Edwin J. Feulner Jr., president of the Heritage Foundation,1985.
According to Rasmussen:
“…while Republican voters overwhelmingly consider themselves conservative, only 56% of conservative voters consider themselves to be Republicans. In other words, nearly half of all conservatives nationwide reject the Republican Party label. This means that Republicans looking to broaden their party’s outreach cannot ignore the need to attract a large number of conservative voters along with some political moderates. Of all the non-Republicans in the nation, 31% consider themselves at least somewhat conservative while 37% say they’re political moderates….”
When I hear the word “purge” it makes me want to throw up. That’s just about the way I feel now that Michelle Malkin, Erick Erickson, and their little bunch of Tea Partiers all have decided to purge the GOP of the impure. In fact, Erickson is calling for a “Purge” of the GOP establishment.
Unfortunately, while I think Erickson is extreme, he redeems himself (sort of):
“…I intend to work within the GOP. Already Democrats are salivating at the thought of a third party conservative movement and are intent on fostering it to hurt the GOP. I will not cooperate with a third party movement. As I have said repeatedly, Doug Hoffman is the exception that proves the rule. America is a two party nation and instead of packing up and fleeing the GOP, we should launch a coup and take it back. Consider NY-23 the first salvo in that coup, with the Florida Senate race right behind it…”
Conservatives constantly complain about the Dems, how unfair they are. That they are bullies. They lie, they cheat, manipulate, are vicious, and will do anything to get their way. I have news for them – maybe they should try looking in a mirror!
There is absolutely no difference in the behavior and tactics of the far right than the far left. Only the ideologies are different. The cruel hate is the same.
What do the following have in common?
George H. W. Bush
George W. Bush
All six are good, decent patriotic men of honor, followers of Christ, and betrayed by the far right because they were not good enough – not pure enough. And so – the list of those to be purged includes John McCain and Lindsey. The worst part of it, they are far better, far more decent, far more honorable and patriotic individuals than those dim-wit closed-minded idiots who are more interested in purity than country. Ronald Reagan detested those kind of people – the purists. They were the ones who hated Reagan.
On Sunday afternoon it dawned on The Pink Flamingo that we are taking the whole issue of climate change and politicians in the wrong direction. Lindsey is being hammered for a piece he co-authored with John Kerry for the NYTimes. Even I cringed – because I knew he would be hammered for it.
Suddenly, like the light flashing down from an alien craft about to abduct some drunken deer hunter (note that there is no intentional insult to deer hunters implied) The Pink Flamingo had an epiphany.
GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT
Remember that old computer term – garbage in garbage out?
I think expecting our elected officials to know everything about everything, or even a little bit about everything is just not logical. None of us know everything about everything. We specialize. The era of a eclectic “renaissance” style education no longer exists.
Take climate change – please.
The only reason The Pink Flamingo has a different take on things is because of an essay the late great, Stephen Jay Gould penned for his monthly column in the Natural History magazine. Aside from filling The Pink Flamingo with a life-time desire to be a writer of essays, this article tweaked my fancy. I was going into high school, volunteering doing the candy stripe thing at our local hospital. I remember reading the article after my father picked me up at the hospital there in Seneca. The mail was on the back seat, where I was consigned as he and my grandfather drove home.
I read the Gould essay on the drive to Fair Play, fascinated. My current love of all things dinosaur is nothing new. I’ve been fascinated since I was a little kid and saw that now legendary T-Rex fossil in the Natural History Museum in NYC. While it might take a calculator to figure out how many scientists have been inspired by that same critter, including the great Gould himself, The Pink Flamingo never went beyond fascination when it came to dinosaurs. But – it did give me a reason to read geology, paleontology, and delve into archeology as a high school student.
The specic Gould essay, which I can no longer find, was about the fact that the planet was due for another round of what he felt might be a cycle of ice ages.
Golly – an ice age?
I read everything I could on the subject, only to decide upon a life-long fascination with Post-Roman Britain instead of science.
It seems like the alleged time frame of La Morte de Arthur and the alleged fall of the Roman Empire all occurred around 475AD – 550AD. No one in their right mind would even put the idea of the death of Arthur, fall of Rome, and an ice age together. BUT – they all happened around the same time.
Seems like David Keys also put 2 + 2 together to come up with an ice age. Publisher’s Weekly reviewed the book:
“…In Keys’s startling thesis, a global climatic catastrophe in A.D. 535-536–a massive volcanic eruption sundering Java from Sumatra–was the decisive factor that transformed the ancient world into the medieval, or as Keys prefers to call it, the “proto-modern” era. Ancient chroniclers record a disaster in that year that blotted out the sun for months, causing famine, droughts, floods, storms and bubonic plague. Keys, archeology correspondent for the London Independent, uses tree-ring samples, analysis of lake deposits and ice cores, as well as contemporaneous documents to bolster his highly speculative thesis. In his scenario, the ensuing disasters precipitated the disintegration of the Roman Empire, beset by Slav, Mongol and Persian invaders propelled from their disrupted homelands. The sixth-century collapse of Arabian civilization under pressure from floods and crop failure created an apocalyptic atmosphere that set the stage for Islam’s emergence. In Mexico, Keys claims, the cataclysm triggered the collapse of a Mesoamerican empire; in Anatolia, it helped the Turks establish what eventually became the Ottoman Empire; while in China, the ensuing half-century of political and social chaos led to a reunified nation. Huge claims call for big proof, yet Keys reassembles history to fit his thesis, relentlessly overworking its explanatory power in a manner reminiscent of Velikovsky’s theory that a comet collided with the earth in 1500 B.C. Readers anxious about future cataclysms will take note of Keys’s roundup of trouble spots that could conceivably wreak planetary havoc….”
Would you believe the global temperature during the height of the Roman Republic and Empire ranged something like 4 degrees warmer than it is now?
Civilizations flourish during a time of global warming and had a tendency to either fall or wax inward during periods of cooling.
Please expain the importance of the word “Greenland”.
Now, the following completely esoteric lines of study are something no “normal” person who has a “real” life would even bother thinking about, let alone own dozens of books about the above.
There’s even more.
The Pink Flamingo has been interested in astronomy and space even longer than dinosaurs.
Get the picture?
Add a fascination with geology, history, King Arthur, Ancient America fringe archaeology, and a half-way decent working knowledge of science and you have a walking rebuttal to the current infant “science” of climatology. (it is a joke)
We are dealing with a rather fascinating solar minimum. For some strange reason, the utter lack of sunspots indicates a cooling surface on the sun. Anyone who knows anything know the cooler the sun, the cooler the earth.
Know anything about the relationship between very messy volcanic explosions and global cooling?
The Pink Flamingo subscribes to the theory of history that someone must delve, not only into the usual historical tools, papers, archives, etc, but must also integrate misc. sciences be them social, earth, biological, archaeology, or political in order to write history.
Reports of Lindsey betraying the country via the climate change bill are greatly exhaggerated. Seems like there are more than a few Republicans who are threatening a little cap/trade of their very own.
“…Many Republicans deride the cap-and-trade system at the heart of the legislation’s heart as a job killer and energy tax hike. And two high-profile Republicans whom Democrats had hoped would cross the aisle — — Senators Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and George Voinovich of Ohio — are now vocally opposed….”
Conservative Blogger, Mike DeVine, from South Carolina is a stand up guy. The Pink Flamingo took a bit of humbridge about something he wrote over the weekend conserning Lindsey. Like I said, Mike is a stand up guy, on my list of men of honor. He researched my comment and came up with the following piece about the article Lindsey and John Kerry co-authored for the NYTimes.
What is the deal with spending twenty-four thousand bucks so people could get three thousand or so bucks to purchase a new car?
Arrested Development, that late great satire of television show is long gone, but alive and well living in the White House. It is a story about a family so incompetent they cannot even be good crooks. Absolutely NOTHING the Bluth Family does is right, even lying, cheating, stealing, swindling, and hanging with Saddam.
We are living in very interesting times. Any number of people I know are down, depressed, distressed, upset, and just plain terrified about what is coming.
Fox is the enemy.
The Chamber of Commerce is the enemy.
Rush Limbaugh is the enemy.
Basically anyone who criticizes He Who Must Be Adored is the enemy.
It is entirely possible health care reform is going passed even if we do not want it. Real unemployment is something we only get when Republicans are in office. The Administration reports 9.8 % unemployment, but we’re actually looking at something around 17%. (Hyscience)
Unfortunately, if we do not turn around and laugh, we are going to lose perspective on life. And laugh we should. Barack Obama is quickly becoming a farce, a joke, the stuff late night legends are made of – if only he were Republican.
The Pink Flamingo, in her humble estimation, thinks there have been a handful of truly great television shows: Bonanza, Star Trek Classic, I Love Lucy, MASH, and Arrested Development. (First, a note for Arrested Development fans: Yes, there may indeed be a movie.
For some strange reason, when you tell numerous lies about a person, you end up hating the person you lie about. It is quite obvious this is what has happened to Lindsey. The far right, prompted by Rush Limbaugh, Michelle Malkin, and Laura Ingraham have told so many lies about Lindsey that the only way they can justify their mis-treatment of him is to turn him into an object of hatred.
I think they are starting to do the same thing to Newt Gingrich.
Something very nasty is going on with the conservative universe. Evidently someone doesn’t like Lindsey Graham and will literally do and say anything to destroy him. Doesn’t matter if it isn’t true. Doesn’t matter what they say. Lindsey Graham is evil and must be destroyed.
This is all getting old and very nasty. It is getting vicious, mean-spirited, and downright unpatriotic. If you march lock-step to what certain individuals desire, you are to be destroyed.
There is no different between the Democrat Hate Machine and the Conservative Hate Machine – just the names and faces. The methods are the same. They will do ANYTHING to destroy those who have been marked for elimination.
It would be interesting to see who first put the “conservative” hit out on Lindsey. I suspect it was John Tanton. I know that Michelle Malkin is in on it. The nastiness she spreads – and has spread about Lindsey was the cause of her dismissal from FOX News awhile back. She and Geraldo went to war over the disgusting illustrations she promoted. I suspect Lindsey has come rather close to the truth about this bunch of Malkin’s little friends.
My grandfather Froehlich was a cattleman all of his life. He had the largest independent dairy in south Florida, milking several hundred cows on a 24 hour basis. Having spent all of his life around cows, he had a tendency to equate and philosophize about life via cows. He also had a rather cynical view of humanity, likening them to cows.
He would have a very dismal view of today’s “conservative base”, considering them nothing but cattle.
What happens when people who are NOT Republican acquire enough power to manipulate themselves into the position where they can call the shots?
Okay, they are smart. They are a heck of a lot smarter than “we are”. If we had half their cunning, duplicitous brains, we would know how to manipulate them and not the other way around.
Republicans who allow it are just downright pathetic. That’s what is going on in the GOP today. A minority group of conservatives have terrorized our more spineless Republican officials into thinking THEY ARE THE BASE, when nothing could be farther from the truth.
Why should people who have no relationship with a political party be the ones who call the shots?
They are abusive bullies who have come up with a formula to terrorize our elected officials. When good men like Lindsey stand up to them, well – you can see the results. They lie, denigrate, abuse, and manipulate.
Golly, they are good conservatives!
The far right now thinks Newt Gingrich is not good enough for them. They’ve also turned on Mike Huckabee, but then they never did like Huck. This whole mess is because the NY GOP is absolutely incompetent.
“…”There will be no climate change bill with my vote unless you have offshore oil drilling,” Graham told Fox News on Thursday. “I won’t vote for any climate change bill that doesn’t allow a dramatic increase in nuclear power. I’m not going to vote for any climate change bill that doesn’t allow us to use our coal deposits.”…”
Friday on his show, Rush Limbaugh did not tell the truth. He was complaining about the fact that no Republicans were standing up to the Obama Administration and trying to be leaders. He lied. Lamar Alexander is standing up to them. So is John McCain. Mitch McConnell is fighting. Charles Grassley, once denounced as “liberal” is sounding like a regular Ronald Reagan as he fights the liberals.
We have some great Republicans trying to fight Obama. Unfortunately the far right talking heads would rather lie about their efforts than to praise them. There’s a good reason. I think the far right wants to prevent the GOP from winning in 2010.
It’s obvious they have a “hate on” for many of our leaders, Lindsey especially.
There’s a good reason for this.
Lindsey is emerging as THE leader of the Republicans in the Senate. If Lindsey continues on his current path, he is going to be the most powerful Republican in Washington, the perfect replacement for George W. Bush – a true patriot and a man of honor.
You know the far right has gone too far when they turn on Newt Gingrich.
On O’Reilly Thursday night, Laura Ingraham did nothing but complain about Obama and his administration and Dems in general. She talked about how they set out to destroy the reputation of those they oppose. They lie, they denigrate, and will do just about anything to ruin a person’s reputation. She was quite upset about it. In her next breath she started complaining about the likes of John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and RINOS who were out to doom the conservative movement. She did nothing but denigrate and lie about Lindsey.
In other words, it is okay to destroy a “RINO” if you are a pure conservative who is trying to keep the party pure. Protecting the country doesn’t matter as much as purity and ideology. If this is what conservatives are up to, then they don’t give a damn about the fate of the country, only their personal agenda.
I gather Laura Ingraham, Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, etc. are only interested in their “pure” agenda, and aren’t interested in recapturing the House and Senate from the Dems. If they did, they would use some rational thinking and realize a majority is more important than purity. Only FOOLS demand purity.
“You’ve called down the thunder, and now you’ve got it.”
Kurt Russell as Wyatt Earp in Tombstone
Pink Flamingo readers know I’ve taken the side of Charles Johnson at LGF when it comes to Robert Stacy McCain and his little friends. I think Johnson is over the top on a few things, but he is 100% right on when it comes to exposing the vile, corrupt, racist, filth that is festering within certain ranks of the conservative far right.
Now AJ Strata, one of the great voices of reason has joined the war, for indeed it is a war.
“…But when I look at what The Other McCain has written over time, I find myself repulsed well beyond my moral limits of tolerance. Anyone who thinks “race” verses “human beings” is off track. Way off track. And anyone who defends slavery is plain insane. LGF noted a detailed analysis of McCain blathering which has pushed me to the point I must make a public stand. Some disturbing excerpts of the thinking of a sick mind:…”
It is a war for the conservative soul and a war to preserve the GOP and wrestle it back from the minions of the likes of Robert Stacy McCain, Pat Buchanan, Peter Brimelow, Michelle Malkin, Bay Buchanan, and Glenn Beck. I think Lindsey fired the opening shots a couple of weeks ago, and now the conservative world is taking sides.
Reasonable conservatives know the difference from right and wrong. They know the difference between an agenda of hate, actual criticism, honesty. The problem is the fact that personal expediency sometimes gets in the way of doing what is right.
Instead of standing up for what is right, we are dealing with thousands of lemming conservatives who evidently take their marching orders from people who are connected to some very nasty agendas. Until we manage to limit the influence of these people, being a “conservative” is akin to nothing more than a bad joke.
If these people and their agendas are not marginalized, once again, we are going to lose entire groups of voters, the way we did Hispanics.
I’m beginning to wonder if these people are “conservative” at all, but rather working hand in hand with liberals to destroy the country. Sure looks that way.
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of it. When I see someone who is trying to manipulate and promote an agenda that is “hate” I call them on it. No one cares, but if we can reach a person every once in awhile, maybe we can defeat these yahoos.
Michelle Malkin writes for Vdare.
Vdare features regular articles by the following:
Jarrod Taylor of American Renaissance
Pat Buchanan, who also is featured in World Nut Daily
Vdare is the brainchild of Peter Brimelow
Peter Brimelow’s identical twin brother, John, was once the leader of the National Socialist Party.
Malkin is a staunch associate of Robert Stacy McCain.
RSM also writes for Vdare.
He is a friend of William White one of the leaders of the National Socialist movement.
RSM worked with Francis Coombs.
Both Coombs and his wife are also close friends with William White.
Both Combs and RSM were leading figures at the WTimes.
They are all puppets of John Tanton, who is one of the most staunch pro-abortion and pro-eugenics advocates in the world.
There is one thing this bunch has in common. They all claim to worship Reagan, who would turn his back on them if he were still here. They detest John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and George W. Bush. They do their level best to denigrate and destroy the GOP.
When a conservative lies about someone conservatives are angry with, does that make the lie acceptable?
The Pink Flamingo is being hammered at another site for leaving a comment calling down a SC writer, Nancy Morgan for lying about Lindsey Graham. Some may look at what Morgan did as a sin of omission, but the object of her inaccurate reporting was to slander a man’s good name and destroy his reputation.
If Morgan had said that conservatives who do not identify themselves with the GOP and were members of the Libertarian and Constitution Party were determined to hold an elected Republican official to task, it would ruin the whole purpose of her article.
“…Graham has come to exemplify the growing disconnect between conservatives and the Republican Party. He believes he knows best, and if the people that elected him disagree, he tells them to just “chill out,” as he did at a recent townhall meeting in Greenville. The same townhall meeting where one of his constituents called him a traitor.
That townhall received little media attention. What did receive national media coverage was Graham’s recent interview where he attacked Glenn Beck, the left’s favorite target. “Glenn Beck does not represent the thinking of the Republican Party,” Graham stated. How he knows this is a mystery, as he went on to say he never watches the Glenn Beck Show. Go figure.
Graham may be right about one thing: Glenn Beck clearly represents the thinking of conservatives, not the GOP. And Sen. Lindsey Graham is now willingly spouting the talking points of the left and abandoning the conservative principles that got him elected. He has been seduced by the left and his reward is ever more national face time and political influence….”
From the Greenville News:
“…Whether they represent a vocal minority or the seeds of a serious election challenge for Graham remains to be seen, though at least one Republican consultant believes the state’s senior senator has “real problems” outside of just a raucous town hall meeting.
“If he were running right now, he’d be in serious trouble,” said Dave Woodard, a Clemson University political science professor and former campaign manager for Graham who said he has Upstate polling to support his view.
Graham, re-elected last year to another six-year term, flatly rejected that idea, describing the crowd at his town hall meeting this week as 40 percent Constitution Party members who themselves are about to spark a “backlash” because of the recent visibility of their “radical” views.
“They’re a political fringe group,” Graham told The Greenville News. “They believe that Medicare is unconstitutional and student loans are unconstitutional. I’m the conservative in the room.”…”
What it respresents is a serious problem for the GOP and reasonable Republicans in general. If these extremists cannot be revealed for who and what they are, they are going to end up costing us the House in 2010. If this happens, don’t blame the GOP for the destruction of this nation as we know it, blame conservatives.
Want to know how a non-conservative sees things?
“…Graham, who scored a full 100 percent rating from Americans for Tax Reform in 2007, is also under attack because he voted for Sonia Sotomayor for the Supreme Court and recently insisted that “birthers” are crazy. Graham then went on “Fox News Sunday” and made the mistake of saying that he didn’t believe that Glenn Beck represented the Republican Party. Graham implied that Beck believed that the “country’s best days are behind us.” On his radio show, Beck played the clip of Graham on Fox and then railed against the South Carolina senator, lumping him in with other enemies:
“Yeah, the best days. The best days are behind for Lindsey Graham, you bet. David Brooks, Lindsey Graham , all of these people. Nancy Pelosi, all on both sides. On both sides. Katie Couric, Brian Williams, all of them. All of them. Anybody who’s playing this game, your best days are behind you.”
In only a week Graham has become a central target for the group called RINO Hunters that protested his appearance in Greenville. For those new to intraconservative sectarian warfare, RINO stands for Republicans In Name Only. A member of the RINO Hunter organization is featured in the video of the Lindsey Graham event. A man sets up a RINO Hunter sign on his pickup truck along with a mannequin head first in an actual toilet to simulate a swirly. The man says that it represents the way he would like to punish those he considers RINOs….”
LIES AND LIARS
I don’t like lies. I do not like people who lie and have no compassion or tolerance for them. I don’t care if the person doing the lying is Barack Obama, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, or Ronald Reagan himself. If I catch a lie and I can do something about it, I do.
Funny thing about lies and conservatives. They apparently only hold Democrats accountable. If a conservative lies, mis-represents, stretches the truth, or fails to tell the important parts of a story – it’s all for the “cause”.
A few months ago Pink Flamingo friend and confidant, Sally Vee introduced me to the lectures and teachings of Rabbi Daniel Lapin. Even though both of us are dedicated Christians, we’ve come to understand Lapin’s comment that everyone needs a rabbi! It has been quite awhile since the teachings of any religious figure have had such a profound effect on the very way I live my life and the way I look at life.
Several weeks ago I listened to his short CD on the Ten Commandments. I thought I knew what they were all about, but by the time the CD had ended, I received new insight into why things are the way that they are. According to the Rabbi, the reason the Ten Commandments are presented side by side, five on one side of a tablet and five on the other is that there is a correlation between the Laws that are side by side.
The one I’m interested in is good old #9 – You are not to lie about someone, especially in a court of law. What I found interesting about Rabbi Lapin’s interpretation is the fact that when you lie about a person, you are literally stealing their good name. You are stealing their reputation, damaging it, possibly destroying it beyond redemption.
There have been two instances where lies have caused irreperable harm and heart-breaking damage to my life. The first monsterous lie destroyed my reputation in the eyes of my grandparents and caused both my sister and I to be disheerated from our grandparents’ estate. The reason? Someone told my grandmother that my sister and I were involved in some very nasty immoral activities. We were never given the opportunity to face our accuser and fight for our reputations.
The second great lie happened in the spring of 2001. Someone I thought was a friend began spreading lies about me to the man I was to marry. Her lies destroyed that. The lies enabled him to undertake a debauched life-style that has ruined him. There is nothing left but a pathetic shell of a man who believed every nasty thing said about me. Yes, I was fortunate to discover his lack of faith in me before we were married, but my sense of self, well being, and my self-confidence have never truly recovered.
Those same lies ruined my best friend. She and her son moved to the other part of the state, returning only for her father’s funeral. I was driven away from mutual friends as the Princess of Lies continued to spin her wretched web of hate. The only solace is one person who heard the lies and believed them had a change of heart. Our relationship has never been the same, but he heard the worst about me and realized it was not true.
I was hurt so badly by those lies my entire life has changed. Rationally, I know what was done was not true and I know most of why it was done. But – the psychological scars are still there, and are still raw. When I encounter someone spreading tales or half-truths, or manipulating the truth about someone I know and consider a friend, having been on the recieving end of such things, I fight back.
You can’t go around spreading tales and abusing someone who does not deserve the treatment and remain unscathed. What goes around comes around. Look at what is happening to Rush Limbaugh. He has been vicious when it comes to attacking good decent Republicans like Lindsey and John McCain. Limbaugh set the standard for how conservatives treat Republicans. I do not approve of the lies that have been told about him. They are wrong. They are lies and the people who are doing it should be held accountable. Same thing holds true for conservatives who do nothing but denigrate our good elected Republicans. They need to be held accountable for the problems they are creating.
They need to learn how to tell the truth. They also need to open their eyes, wake up, smell the coffee, and see what is going on out in the world. The very same sources who lied about and denigrated Reagan are up to it again. Only now they are dealing with conservatives who are so – stupid – culturally ilterate, and so pathetic, these people don’t know the difference.
When the far right lied about Reagan, Republicans basically turned their back on these people. It’s time they do the same thing – again. If Rasmussen’s latest poll is correct, Huckabee & Romney have the upper hand for 2012. Neither man is far right. Romney is rather moderate, and Huck is not considered a very strong conservative. They are pulling nearly 60% of the polling.
The GOP is a center right party. It is not extreme. It is not the party for extremes. If we want to retake the house in 2010 we need to offer strong, center right candidates. Far right candidates rarely win. We also need to take the rational approach that someone who will win in Midland, Texas cannot possibly be elected in West Palm Beach. To demand 100% conservative purity is just plain stupid, short sighted, and is a death wish for our nation.
To compound the problem by lying about our good Republicans, and manipulating what they stand for and who they are because they do not meet a narrow minded version of “purity” is just plain criminal.
Do people who make these demands actually want to defeat the Dems or do they want to remain in a minority status forever, damning our country to socialist ruin?
“America is not only worth fighting for, it’s worth getting criticized for.” Lindsey Graham
Would someone please tell me the difference between liberals spreading lies about Rush Limbaugh and conservatives spreading lies about Lindsey Graham? Oh, Graham isn’t pure so he deserves it, right? As long as the person is someone the Tea Party People dislike (and they take their marching orders from Ron Paul Bots) then they can lie all they want. But – don’t tell anyone they are lying. They are 100% pure conservative. Anyone who isn’t deserves to be lied about and destroyed – just the way the liberals are trying to destroy Rush.
It’s a Tea Party Problem.
The Pink Flamingo is using the current far far far far far right, Ron Paul Bot, Tea Party attack on Lindsey as an example of the problems we are facing within the GOP.
We have a problem within conservative circles. Things are getting nasty. We’re starting to be barraged by a group of far right writers, bloggers, and columnists who don’t give a durn about the truth, and would rather lie to promote their anti-Republican agenda. They’ve reached the point where honor and principle have nothing to do with their agenda, only their version of “truth” which has nothing to do with actual provable fact.
American Thinker has joined the ranks of the idiot right with the publication of a reprehensible hit piece on Lindsey by far right nut-job Nancy Morgan. She talks a good game, but anyone who writes for World Nut Daily can’t be very reliable, can they?
Morgan writes the following:
“…Lindsey Graham was elected to serve as United States Senator in 2002. He was easily re-elected in 2008, largely due to the support of conservatives. Conservatives like founder and past president of the low country’s South Strand Republicans, John Bonsignor. John and his wife campaigned hard for Graham, based on their belief that Graham would govern as a conservative. Meaning, lower taxes and less government.
“Graham is disappointing,” states Bonsignor, “He campaigned as a conservative but his record is moderate left.” When asked if he would vote for Graham now, Bonsignor stated emphatically, “No,” citing Lindsey’s support for Sotomayor, his support for TARP funds, and the final straw, his support for cap and trade…”
Since when was a 90% ACU rating “moderate left”.
Maybe conservatives need to start telling the truth and quit lying about things….?
The problem with conservatives like Morgan is the fact that they cannot tell actual facts that are proven to be correct. There is a difference between “truth” and “fact”. Truth is in the eye of the beholder. Fact can be proven correct or incorrect. Morgan is spreading facts that have no bases in fact. She is telling lies about Lindsey. The worst of it is the fact that Flopping Aces, one of the finest conservative sites, has picked up her pack of lies and is in the process of spreading them. (Morgan is one of those idiots who voted for Ross Perot, thereby costing GHWB a 2nd term – good conservative – idiot).
Her lies are being picked up and spread. Because she is saying something ugly about Lindsey, no one is bothering to fact check her.
Fortunately people such as Ron Paul and his Bots are being recognized as the “fringe“. The problem is they make so much noise and so dominate the blogsphere and radiosphere that NORMAL Republicans don’t have a prayer of being heard. Fortunately, along with Lindsey, we have one other great Republican voice of reason – Michael Medved.
The fascinating, and dirty little secret about all of this is you will rarely find a NORMAL Republican who criticizes Lindsey. The only ones who truly dislike him, other than Rush, are NOT Republicans. They hate Lindsey with a passion, that is at a boiling point because Lindsey tells the truth when it comes to Ron Paul and their outlandish worship of a man who truly deserves to be put out to pasture before he destroys the country.
“…It is this lack of integrity and principle on display right now. Graham is the worst of the lot. Integrity, honesty, and principle are the ideological fuel to grow the Republican Party. That is the fuel of Ron Paul. Utilizing the Lindsey Graham infested fuel has already been attempted and failed….”
Michael Tomasky from the UK Guardian seems to think those who consider Lindsey a “traitor” are basically unhinged. I agree. The real problem is the Ron Paul Bots, the Glenn Beck idiots, and the far far far far far right is being called down for their outlandish, stupid, and unreasonable behavior that could end up costing us dearly in 2010. These people aren’t interested in their country. They are followers, interested in worshipping and promoting someone who salves their pathetic little egos. They are fringe cult-like conspiracy nuts. They need to be marginalized before they do further damage to the country.
“I love this party. I’m not going to be let it be hijacked by Ron Paul.”
Funny how the far right doesn’t like Republicans who stand up for the GOP. I guess that says something, doesn’t it. The Palmetto Scoop covered the whole Monday Night Ron Paul, Constitution Party, Libertarian hate-fest. Naturally, the usual hate-Lindsey far right crowd will NOT tell the truth about what happened Monday night, which says a lot about them. Naturally Hot Air has managed to slam Lindsey while explaining about the entire event.
“...The knuckledragger brigade was out in full force Monday night at a health care reform town hall held by U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham at Furman University in Greenville.
During the 75-minute forum, the boisterous crowd grilled Graham for having common sense and not blindly following the rhetoric of right wing reactionaries.
At one point, an older woman stood up and made some prolonged statement about state’s rights and the Constitution while the crowd predictably cheered her on. The woman ranted at length about “unconstitutional, anti-Christ, socialist, federal, deficit-spending programs” and told Graham that “God does not compromise.” Whatever that means.
Graham responded by asking her how she’d voted for president, and –shockingly — she said she voted for Constitution Party wacko Chuck Baldwin. Also shockingly, nearly all of the ideologues in attendance gave a rambunctious round of applause.”…”
Now, the scuttlebutt about the incident, which was filmed, according to The Palmetto Scoop, by a Ron Paul Bot named Brian Frank, is the same jerk who caused trouble for Lindsey at the SC GOP State Convention last May. According to The Palmetto Scoop:
“…Interestingly, on his Facebook page, Frank lists his activities as “Sitting on my butt and collecting unemployment as long as I can!” Gee… what a surprise…”
Listen to the video, it is a thing of beauty. Lindsey tells them off, and pulls out the information that the people making all the problems are NOT Republicans.
“…One man told Graham he had “betrayed” conservatism and made a “pact with the devil” by working with Democrats, and asked when Graham would switch parties. Graham said he’s not going anywhere and instead would grow the party, defending his conservative credentials on such issues as abortion and guns, and calling the view of Libertarians who believe President Bush was a war criminal “nuts.” “We’re not going to be the party of angry white guys,” Graham said to more shouts. A woman who had been carrying a sign that condemned “unconstitutional, anti-Christ, socialist, federal, deficit-spending programs” told Graham “God does not compromise” and that he had violated his oath of office by supporting federal ideas, including health care reform that overstep states’ rights….”
He then called Libertarians “nuts”!
“…Despite being on the defensive much of the time, Graham held his ground on the issues, defending his conservative credentials as well as his support for the climate change bill. When asked about the view held by some Libertarians that President Bush committed war crimes, Graham didn’t mince words, calling the view “nuts.” His response garnered shouts and boos…”I’m not going to leave the Republican Party,” Graham said when one questioned asked him why he hasn’t yet joined the Democrats. “I’m going to grow it. We’re not going to be the party of angry white guys.”
His comments were met with a salvo of boos and shouts of “Ron Paul!”
“I love this party,” he responded. “I’m not going to be let it be hijacked by Ron Paul.”
Graham emphasized his conservative bona fides — particularly his record of opposing abortion rights and support of gun rights — but said GOP needs to build a broader coalition. Otherwise, he warned, those trying to purify the party will turn Congress over “to the most liberal people in the world because somebody disagrees with you.”
“I’m going to find people in Maine, Delaware, Illinois and other places that can win,” he said. “And I’m going to help them, and we’re going to move this party and this country forward. If you don’t like it, you can leave.””
This is a lesson in the ways the far, far, far right tries to destroy a very good man. It is NOT about normal, decent conservatives, libertarians, and independents. It is about a handful of vile, nasty extreme right conservatives who have absolutely nothing to do with the Republican Party, but spent their venial time doing everything possibly to destroy, defame, and denigrate good, decent men and women who do not agree with them.
The real problem here is the fact that there is no differentiation between “conservative” and “Republican”. We automatically know that when we are dealing with “liberals”, a good 95% of them are Democrats. But – when we are dealing with the term “conservative” that is not the case at all. Most are either Republican or usually vote Republican, but there is a very vocal minority who basically control all things conservative online. They number in their midst some very powerful blogging voices who are regular commentators on FOX. A decent Republican doesn’t stand a chance – until Republicans get smart and start calling down the thunder.
Evidently the mantra of “drill baby drill” is not longer acceptable to the Far Right.
What’s wrong with building new nuclear power plants?
I thought energy independence was a good thing.
Evidently it is, but only if it is proposed by someone other than Lindsey Graham.
The irony here is that what he and John Kerry are proposing isn’t far from what Sarah Palin is advocating.
The real problem – Lindsey is not “pure” enough for the far right. The worst part of this – if Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty, Bobby Jindal, Mike Pence, Jim DeMint or even Ron Paul had proposed this the far right would be heralding the breakthrough as a way to defeat the far left.
First, The Pink Flamingo wants to go on record that we are dealing with climate change. I did NOT say global warming. I fear we are going to be hitting a period of global cooling due to the sun. If we experience one big volcanic eruption like Pinatubo, we’re looking at some serious global cooling – major cooling – another minor ice age. There are several things in this life that are consistent. First, always count on Lindsey to throw a curve and step into a fast-ball at the same time. Second, Michelle Malkin is ALWAYS going to lie about his actions. Then trust all the usual little far right flunkies to pick up on her irrational hatred of him.
I can only imagine what Rush is going to do tomorrow.
They say the devil is in the details. If the usual suspects would bother reading the details, they might discover that Lindsey is NOT selling out their precious and somewhat irrational conservative cause that is increasingly costing us votes. But then no one ever accused Michelle Malkin of being a Republican. Sometimes it just gets plain annoying having to constantly support and defend a man who believes in standing up for something he thinks is right, defending him from the people who don’t possess a small percentage of his honesty and honor. Now though, Lindsey Graham has done the unpardonable….he penned an Op-Ed with John Kerry.
Who knew being a statesman was such a bad thing.
Then again, the far right knows very little about history, or they would know how the Senate actually works.
From The Hill:
“…The two senators wrote that they both agree on five basic premises: (1) climate change is real; (2) the U.S. should take an all-inclusive approach to renewable energy; (3) climate change represents an opportunity to ween the country off foreign oil; (4), climate legislation can’t and won’t cost American jobs; and (5) the bill will protect small businesses….”
Durn – I thought Malkin was conservative.
Obviously she and the usual suspects are once again responding with their usual knee-jerk reactionary far right, anti-GOP hate. Maybe a few of the usual suspects need to read what is really going on here.
I will admit, I was annoyed with Lindsey when I heard he was up to this. I trust him, so I know he is not going to betray our country. I was more annoyed because I’m going to be out there defending what he is going against the usual conservative lies.
Funny thing about lies, you tell them long enough and they are taken as truth. The irony of the fact is the very people who are demanding purity, a return to traditional values, and are constantly damning Obama for his lack of truthfulness. Factual accuracy is a funny thing. It works both ways.
I will be willing to wage my currently very stinky toy poodle that the following usual sources are NOT Republican.
Want to know the real difference between liberals and conservatives?
Liberals usually circle their wagons and stand up for one another.
Conservatives have absolutely no problem eating their own, then going after liberals. The problem is you can’t have it both ways and be intellectually honest, but then intellectual honest is not something the far far right deals with on a regular basis.
One of the biggest canards in the “conservative” sphere is the idea that FOX News is fair and balanced. Once upon a time it might have been. But no longer. Not only have they abandoned (for the most part) the Democrats point of view but there is no longer even theefford made to present the Republican side of things. There are exceptions in the fair and balanced thing such as Neil Cavuto, Chris Wallace, Greta Van Susteren and Bret Baier but that’s about it. It looks like the only Republican who gets a fair shot these days is Mike Huckabee.
This morning, if what The Pink Flamingo saw is now SOP, the GOP is in serious trouble. Even more than that, any possibility of defeating Obama and theDems next year is simply a pipe dream. Now, not content to flaunt the Libertarian agenda of Glenn Beck FOX anchors are involved in outright prevarications and obfuscation when it comes to what the GOP is doing.
The Pink Flamingo went on line at the old site on October 4, 2005. There is no way I will even copy the first post it was so pathetic, not that it isn’t still pathetic. During those four years the world has changed.
When The Pink Flamingo began blogging my main promise was to support the Republican Party and be as honest as I possibly could. This has not changed. Conservatives have changed. There is a tendency online for conservatives to be more irrational and more extreme. I’ve seen that Libertarian Party infusion I’ve been fearing step in and attempt to hijack the party. Thanks to those same Losertarians good, decent Republicans are now damning George W. Bush and worshiping a seriously disturbed Libertarian demigod who knows when to turn on the tears.
Today I am far more pessimistic than I was four years ago. This pessimisim is not about Barack Obama, who is on the way to becoming comic relief. The pessimism I see is the constant attack on good Republicans by Libertarians who have no shame, no honor, and no decency. Lying about their conservative leanings, these anti-war, conspiracy believing, nuts are marching lock-step with their fearless leaders like Ron Paul and a few others, taking our country over a cliff.
Have you noticed that the Democrats and the media under the Chicago style of Barack Obama act more like something out of the Godfather than actual political realities. You do what we want or we make you an offer you can’t refuse. Say, you want to keep those knee-caps?
Mob rule is at it again, this time going after Sarah Palin’s co-author, trying to destroy her as a warning to anyone else who might want to take a job working for another high powered Republican. They are also trying to warn off anyone who might want to work with Sarha Palin at a later date.
NOTE TO DEMOCRATS: Get a life.
The monsters of the hit, both far right and far left never stop. There’s not much difference in them, either. I think the big difference is with the elected officials. Republicans bend over backwards to be nice, decent, have good manners, and seriously take our Founding Fathers and the Constitution seriously.
“…“Talk radio, MoveOn.org, the 24-hour news cycle makes it very hard to reach across the aisle,” Graham said. It gets polarized. Can you imagine doing D-Day with cable television? Can you imagine writing the Constitution — you know, O’Reilly says Ben Franklin’s giving in on something. Can you imagine having to do that in this environment?…”Do I want some of his policies to fail? You better believe it.Do I want him to fail? No, because he’s my president,” Graham said. “If he fails in Afghanistan, if he fails in Iran, my country fails.“…”
Finally, someone is unloading on Glenn Beck. Naturally it would be Lindsey, and naturally this will be a declaration of war. This is so much fun! Lindsey is saying what most of us are already thinking.
Glenn Beck is not a conservative. He claims to be a “libertarian”, and is increasingly fawning over Ron Paul. Perhaps one of the best things to happen to the GOP is the beginning of a “blog war” between Little Green Footballs and Robert Stacy McCain. I don’t know exactly what Johnson’s politics are, other than the fact that he is going after specific “hate” sources the way I try to go after anti-immigration sources. I know how I’ve been treated and The Pink Flamingo is not important in the vast galaxy. LGF is.
Glenn Beck is starting a war he may not be able to complete. The “conservative” blogsphere is starting to fall apart, over Beck, Charles Johnson at LGF, and the apologists who constantly side with Robert Stacy McCain. Earlier today at LGF, Johnson said exactly what I’ve been saying, only The Pink Flamingo is not very important and Johnson is. I’m not worth attacking.
“…Don’t take my word for it that American Renaissance is an outright white supremacist hate site; here’s a Google cache link. Go ahead, investigate it for yourself and see the kinds of people with whom Robert Stacy McCain associates.
This is an ongoing disgrace, from which the right wing blogosphere may never recover.
I’ve made my position very clear — I won’t stand with racists and white supremacists, not now, not in the past, not ever. There’s a very bad craziness on the right, and I won’t have any part of it….”
