This week, The Pink Flamingo and my brother had an off and on again back and forth about the corruption …Read the Rest
The other night, The Pink Flamingo was watching one of the great American classics, To Kill a Mockingbird. For those ignorant wretches who have not seen the movie nor read the classic book, you have my pity. Atticus Finch (played by the late, great Gregory Peck) was the ultimate Southern attorney living in a small town. He understood that all men and women are equal, no matter what their color, nor their what was in their pocketbook.
When the haters could not crush Atticus Finch for going against their demands by defending a Black man innocent of the rape charges filed against him by a white trash woman, they tried to kill his children. There’s not much difference between the man who tried to kill the children of Atticus Finch and the tea party “patriots” who try killing the reputations and careers of good and honorable men and women who absolutely refuse to bend to their will.
The Pink Flamingo is terrified of extremes. I see the growing extremism and irrational behavior of the tea parties as just that. It did not start out this way, but it is getting there. The very real problem is the fact that the people involved in the tea parties are failing to weigh the biased information they are receiving from their tin-plated gods like Glenn Beck.
If something is not done to put some of these people in check, and explain the facts of life to them, via American history, we are in for a very terrifying ride, abjectly terrifying. How long will it be before some idiotic tea party twit who is seriously unstable does something like what happened in India over the weekend?
One of The Pink Flamingo’s favorite movie lines is uttered by the late, immortal David Niven. “I shall yell tripe whenever tripe is served!” It comes from the adorable classic Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, based on writer Jean Kerr’s inspirational book by the same title. I say “inspirational” because it is one of those books that helped to inspire The Pink Flamingo to become a writer. In it, the author mentions the reason she became a writer was because writing was the only career where a person could sleep late on a regular basis! Bingo – career path chosen.
One of the things that amazes me the most is the tea party “patriot” and their desire to nominate and vote for men and women who have either no political experience, or no real world experience, or are abject idiots and frauds. Take the State of Florida, please. Have you heard about the tea party tempest there?
Why would Mitt Romney end up donating something like $42,000 to a candidate for governor in South Carolina. Well, first, Gresham Barrett endorsed Fred Thompson in 2008. This is NOT about putting the BEST person into office, it is about Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin manipulating the primaries to get the person THEY think will deliver SC’s extremely important POTUS primary vote in 2012.
Nah, it isn’t about tea parties, patriotism, or even who’s on first. It is about 2012, and the battle to get the nod from the Governor of SC to promote their Presidential ambitions.
SC could be the most pivotal of all primary states. The endorsement of the state’s governor is a big fat hairy deal. We all know Gresham probably won’t endorse either Palin or Romney. Ergo – they gotta go with Haley, shampoo and all.
What are all these endorsements about other than political brownie points?
There are a few ethics complaints about Nikki Haley’s income tax returns. She has staggering leadership problems, but that doesn’t matter. She is a woman, ergo she is better and more worthy than Gresham Barrett. Yea, it sounds dirty to me. Gresham and Natalie donated over $20,000 to charity last year. Haley donated $971 dollars. Even to SC Democrats that sounds cheap and just a little selfish.
Nikki Haley is LOSING the cash race. Gresham is being funded from within the state of South Carolina by normal Repubicans who cannot stomach another term of Mark Sanford nothing. So, Nikki’s little friends must come in from out of state and prop up what could be a floundering campaign.
Last week The Pink Flamingo told you if Nikki Haley wins the run-off, you will see many Republicans privately backing the Dem nominee for governor, Vince Sheheen.
“…“I think there’s certainly going to be financial support from Republican donors for Sheheen,” said Chip Felkel, a longtime GOP operative based in Greenville. “Many in the [S.C.] House and the [S.C.] Senate leadership simply don’t think they can work with Nikki Haley. They have very strong feelings about Rep. Haley and how she has dealt with them, and I don’t think there’s any enthusiasm whatsoever for her to be sitting in the governor’s office.”…”
The GOP has a great candidate in Carly Fiorina. On Sunday she was masterful, in complete control of Chris Wallace, keeping to her talking points.
Did you know that Rand Paul is now demanding that reporters submit questions in writing? And you thought Barack Obama was arrogant!
It’s the incompetence stupid!
“…According to Think Progress, Paul (R-KY) has taken to demanding reporters submit questions in writing. He’s keeping to Fox News and other friendly media outlets. Asked about Medicare reimbursement rates at a local event recently, Paul told a reporter to submit the questions “and we’ll look at them.” He said his goal was to campaign around Kentucky. The baffled reporter rebutted: “So you’re not going to answer any questions in person?” (Watch the video here.)
A few weekends ago The Pink Flamingo made the mistake of watching a Star Wars marathon on television. Please accept my apologies for the analogy.
When Princess Leia remarked that Han Solo “certainly was brave”, Luke wanted to know what good it would do if he got himself killed. When it comes to bravery, Lindsey is brave – because he knows how to be a statesman. In the age of the Tea Party “patriots” who are basically little more than losertarian shills for the likes of the Pauls, and a few other losertarians, anyone who dares step out of line.
There are some idiots in South Carolina who claim to have voted for Alvin Green because his name sounded like Al Green. Then there are some who voted for him because his name came first on the ballot. There were probably a few Republicans who voted for him to make mischief (it’s South Carolina, for goodness sake). Then again, there is a very sad and inconvenient truth about why he may have won.
You know that Tea Party Sh*t being spread around by FOX News and the far right about new faces and all this hope for something tea-like taking over the nation in some great big post hippie libertarian love-in?
In South Carolina, Nikki Haley is going around saying that she is going to help small business, yada yada yada. It’s always about small business. The BIG PROBLEM is the fact that South Carolina is all about BIG BUSINESS and industry. This is something Mark Sanford never seemed to be able to grasp, propelling the state into one of the highest unemployment rates in its history.
It appears as though Nikki Haley is not at stranger to a run-off. Fact is, she faced one similiar in numbers to what she and Gresham are facing – only she was in his shoes. She won.
Perhaps her supporters should remember this as they continue to bully him.
“…In 2004, she ran for the South Carolina House of Representatives against incumbent Republican representative Larry Koon. Koon, who had served since 1975, was the longest-serving member of the House. In the primary election, Haley won 40% of the vote (2,247 votes) to Koon’s 42% (2,354 votes), thus forcing a runoff….”
Maybe that’s why her supporters are afraid.
Much is being made about the “Year of the Conservative Woman”! What a crock.
“...South Carolina ranks last in the nation for the number of women who hold elective office, according to the Center for American Women and Politics. There are no women serving in Congress, in statewide elected executive position, or in the S.C. Senate. Of 124 S.C. House lawmakers, 17 are women…”
The Pink Flamingo is afraid that all the noise being made about a handful of high-profile women in the GOP running for office is hurting the role of other women. In South Carolina, Nikki Haley DID NOT help other women who were running.
Tuesday morning, Blanch Lincoln was declared DOA. Stick a fork in her, she was done. Her political career was over – why even bother with a run-off? She was going to lose.
Same thing could happen to Gresham Barrett.
Well, it is all about South Carolina politics.
You see it everywhere, “Be a gentleman, withdraw,” or “Do the honorable thing, withdraw.” Let the little lady have her way, forget the law.
Yes, the law.
In South Carolina, if Gresham Barrett wanted to withdraw from the upcoming run-off with Tea Party “patriot” Nikki Haley, he could not legally – L – E -G -A – L – L – Y – legally, do so unless both Henry McMaster and Andre Bauer both agree – in writing.
Congrats go to Gresham & Natalie Barrett for barely squeaking a run-off against Nikki Haley! Gresham seems to be on the rise, which gives me hope that he may be able to pull off a miracle in a couple weeks!
Let’s put it this way, Natalie will make an excellent First Lady for South Carolina!
Remember, Gresham was endorsed by Dick Cheney, Lindsey Graham, and Jim DeMint, real Republicans and not tea party twits. Funny how, once upon a time, an endorsement by Dick Cheney was important. Now though, he’s chopped liver, along with the memory of Reagan.
“…Knowing that my father died fighting the Nazi regime in Germany, that I lose him when I was 11 because of that…and then to have them call me Hitler’s daughter. It hurts. It’s ugliness beyond anything I’ve ever experienced….” Jan Brewer
It is a great story. The problem is Jan Brewer’s father, Wilford Drinkwine died of lung disease in California in 1955.
Lord have mercy!
It is not enough for women just to show up and proclaim their tea party status to become GOP candidates. They need to be competent, useful, and they need to stand for something. They do not need to be off the wall idiots who give Republicans – and woman, a bad name.
Why won’t Nikki Haley take Andre Bauer up on his offer of a lie-detector test? If I were in her position I would do it and grand-stand all the way – if I were innocent.
Evidently SC’s GOP Chair Karen Floyd is MIA. Either that or she is, as The Pink Flamingo has stated numerous times, totally and completely incompetent. Right now some of the nastiest stuff I’ve seen in a long time is going down in SC and she is not stepping in to stop it. We are seeing what is basically a civil war between Nikki Haley and Andre Bauer. One of them is telling the truth and one of them isn’t. Bauer has offered to take a lie detector test. Haley continues to blame him for all of her problems.
When a second man comes forward, either someone is really annoyed with Nikki Haley or there is something to the story?
Currently, Nikki Haley is the recipient of the last bastion of Southern manners and chivalry. Because she is a woman, the man are giving her a break. She is being treated like a frail, fragile, flower of womanhood, pure, never to be dirtied. It doesn’t matter if she is guilty or innocent. It is about the new political double standard.
Are women better than men?
How long are the tea party people going to be held unaccountable for their stupidity and their problematic endorsements which are going to hurt the GOP?
The Pink Flamingo does not believe in out of state, primary endorsements. It is ruinous to the GOP.
We also have a problem of the egos. Jim DeMint is out for Jim DeMint. Erick Erickson is his little flunkie. DeMint has “officially” stayed out of the ongoing war in SC, but his flunkie is defending Haley. Mitt Romney, along with blogger Will Folks were early Haley supporters. Palin jumped on the bangwagon a few weeks ago. We all know these endorsements are payback for previous endorsements. It is the way the game is played. BUT – DeMint and Palin are making fools of themselves choosing the most “conservative” candidate, not exactly looking for the more stable and qualified candidate. Haley is NOT qualified to be the Governor of SC nor is Rand Paul fit to serve in the US Senate.
Does any state have as much fun with politics as South Carolina? First Mark Sanford went hiking the Appalachian Trail (down Argentine Way) and now allegedly his hand-picked protege, and Sarah Palin blessed Nikki Haley is in trouble.
You need a score-card with this one.
SC’s Bad Boy of Blogging, Will Folks drives The Pink Flamingo crazy because I think he is so seriously anti-Lindsey that he is irrational. Then again there are those in SC who make the argument that he is irrational anyway. He announced that he and Nikki Haley had had a
Once upon a time, the GOP was the party of Ronald Reagan. Unfortunately, in the quest for libertarian purity, the ascendancy of Ron Paul, the Club for Growth, and absolutes, Ronald Reagan has been thrown under the bus and completely forgotten.
Reagan is dead, long live Ron Paul and Jim DeMint. It is now about egos and power. Forget doing what is right for the country, it is about a populist movement that is out of control, and a news network that is feeding it.
Perhaps it is all about keeping Barack Obama in power, for that is what is going to happen if the current trends continue.
The latest attempt for Losertarians to destroy Lindsey is a thing of beauty. I am impressed. It has it all, religion, anti-immigration, slam the SPLC, the Anti-Christ, Chuck Schumer, Club for Growth, and and a Losertarian front group that is making money slamming good Republicans like Lindsey and Newt. It is like one of those infomertials where you get double your pleasure for just $19.99

“…One of the most conservative members in the upper chamber, he has said he would rather have 30 pure conservatives in the Senate than a majority of centrists….”
Would someone please explain Jim DeMint’s agenda? He is determined to put “pure” conservatives in office, completely going against all logic, wisdom, and reason. Then again, he is more interested in playing on the national stage than serving the people of South Carolina. He was elected to represent South Carolina…?
Why are people like Lindsey being portrayed falsely within the “conservative” media? What is going on? It appears that Lindsey is the primary target, time and time again.
It all goes back to the Tea Party “movement” where Jim DeMint is hailed as a “pure” conservative hero, and Lindsey is being denigrated as a traitor. The truth of the matter is there is very little difference in their voting records.
“…Most of the other supposed heretics being targeted by the right offer the same basic defense that Scozzafava pursued on Sunday, claiming that their views actually overlap with the right on most issues.
There is some quantitative evidence to back this up. For instance, Lindsey Graham, whom many on the right view as another Scozzafava, actually boasts a lifetime rating of 90 from the American Conservative Union. But Graham was recently censured by Republicans in his own state for being insufficiently conservative.
The right’s hostility toward Graham, Scozzafava and other perceived sell-outs (like Florida’s Charlie Crist) seems disproportionate when you consider their overall bodies of work. This suggests that emotion plays a strong role in the purity movement – that the willingness of any Republican to show public flexibility on an emotionally-resonant issue (like Graham working for an immigration compromise or Scozzafava supporting abortion and gay rights) is by itself enough for the right to declare that Republican a traitor to the cause….”
Jim DeMint is up to something. There are rumors that he wants to run for POTUS. Then there are other rumors that he is planning an outright assault on Mitch McConnell. It is obvious he has set himself up to be the great conservative king-maker, and could end up destroying the GOP in the process. What ever is going on, the man is truly ambitious, and appears to be more interested in gaining brownie points nationally than constituent service.
