Christmas, Santa, Humbugs, Cheap Self-Righteous Jerks, and the Birth of Christ

Get over it already yet.

There is nothing no one I dislike more than a two bit, obnoxious self-righteous alleged Christian who decides to declare war on Christmas and gift giving.  Oh, sure they come up with all manner of alleged religious Christian reasons not to give gifts, but the bottom line, every time is the fact that they are just too damn cheap to go out and buy gifts.

Sure, I know Christ was not actually born on December 25, which is the date of the Roman celebration of Saturnalia.  Or – that’s what those anti-gift giving Scrooges want us to think.  The problem is Saturnalia took place on December 17!

The latest research seems to put His birth sometime in the late spring, perhaps early June.  That’s great.  Let’s do Christmas -2.  I’m all for it.  I get to do more shopping and give more presents!

The Scrooge wannabes always point to the Puritans who did not celebrate Christmas.  For some weird reason, my Puritan ancestors are the paragons of Christian virtue.  Funny, but these same people fail to mention that the Puritans only believed in “civil” marriages.  They also believed in quick and easy divorce. It was nothing to discover that the town minister may have been married and divorced three or four times. That’s why we’re all related to everyone if you come from one of those early New England families.

The Puritans were also the ones who brought you the British Civil War, the beheading of more than a few of my ancestors, and the witch trials.  Yep, they were my ancestors, too.

All in all they were a bunch of self-righteous jerks – just like the anti-Christmas religious jerks of today.

If God did not intend for us to celebrate the birth of His son, why did the Wise Men bring such expensive high-end Neiman Marcus style gifts?

Granted I will use anything as a “sign” that the Good Lord intends for us to prove our existence by shopping, but even I can get a pass for this one.

Let’s face it, the ultimate Christmas gift – the greatest gift of all was the gift of God’s only Son.  Through His example we learn generosity of spirit.  I’m certainly not going to thumb my nose at His example.  I can’t take that risk.  Are you sure you can?

BTW – have you ever noticed what absolute jerks these anti-Christmas alleged Christians are?  They sure don’t mind taking your gift, but they sure aren’t going to reciprocate by giving you one.  Instead, you’re more likely to get a lecture on why they are better than you are.

You know how to tell which “Christians” are the ones in that category?  They’re the ones who look the most miserable, don’t know how to smile, and wouldn’t laugh if you were tickling them.

I don’t admit to knowing the will of God on this subject.  I can only use His example and shop.  If God had not wanted us to give very nice gifts to one another to celebrate the birth of His Son,  the Wise Men would have gone empty-handed.

And that’s why we give gold at Christmas…..okay, I’m stretching it a little.  But, you can’t blame me for trying.

  1. Yes, I’ve met people like that and can’t stand to be around them! Well, that’s a nice way of saying what I really think about them. I actually believe they know not Christ! Just ignore them (unless they’re in Congress!). ;)
