Congrats to the World Champion Houston Astros. Once again, my theory about the World Series and the hand of fate has been proven. No city in the US needed the victory more than Houston.
“…“[Baseball] breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall all alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.”…”
From: A Great and Glorious Game: Baseball Writings of A. Bartlett Giamatti
It’s over for the year. Once again our hearts are broken. They will remain broken for 103 days, then, like the first flowers of spring, we will come alive. The world will be born anew. All things will be possible, including the possibility of the Braves winning something for a change.
It could happen.
